BBA 101 Management Process and Organizational Behavior Notes unit-wise: 62 exam questions with answer points and 17 diagrams across 4 units

These BBA 101 Management Process and Organizational Behavior IPU notes follow one build per unit: sections, definition and comparison tables, diagrams, exam questions and a revision table. The sample PDF above has a page from each unit. Notes for other papers are listed under GGSIPU BBA notes.

BBA 101 Unit 1: Introduction to Management

Pages 5-23, 12 sections. Starts with the meaning, nature and need of management and the five functions, then traces management thought: Taylor and Fayol, the Hawthorne studies, the behavioural school, systems and contingency approaches, MBO and Business Process Re-engineering. 4 diagrams, 16 exam questions.

Quick look: Taylor's differential piece wage (from page 11)

  1. Standard output: 10 units a day.
  2. Rate: Rs 50 a unit at or above standard, Rs 40 below it.
  3. Worker A makes 11 units (Rs 550); Worker B makes 9 (Rs 360). Rs 190 for 2 units pushes B to the standard.

BBA 101 Unit 2: Planning and Organizing

Pages 24-45, 17 sections. Planning covers types of plans, strategic planning, PESTLE and SWOT, decision-making steps and techniques, and perfect versus bounded rationality. Organizing covers span of management with Graicunas' formula, line, staff and functional authority, delegation, decentralisation, formal and informal structure, and structures up to matrix and network forms. 6 diagrams, 16 exam questions.

Quick look: break-even as a decision technique (from page 30)

  1. Fixed cost Rs 60,000; price Rs 50; variable cost Rs 30 a unit.
  2. Contribution = 50 minus 30 = Rs 20 a unit.
  3. Break-even = 60,000 ÷ 20 = 3,000 units; sell more and the product makes a profit.

Type A and Type B personality in organisational behaviour: excerpt from page 47 of the BBA 101 notes

Excerpt from page 47 (Unit 3, sections 3.2 and 3.3)

What personality means

Personality is the sum total of the ways in which a person reacts to and interacts with others. It is the relatively stable set of physical, mental, emotional and social traits that makes a person unique and decides how he behaves in different situations.

Gordon Allport defined it as "the dynamic organisation within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his unique adjustments to his environment". Stephen Robbins puts it more simply: the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts to and interacts with others.

Characteristics of personality

  • Unique: no two persons have the same personality.
  • Relatively stable: it does not change quickly, but can change slowly over time.
  • Both inherited and acquired: formed by heredity and environment.
  • An organised whole: all traits work together, not separately.
  • Seen through behaviour: we know personality from how a person acts.

Key point: why managers study it

Personality guides selection and placement (person-job fit), team formation, leadership, motivation and conflict handling. An extrovert may suit sales; a conscientious, detail-minded person may suit accounts.

Where Type A and Type B come from

Two American cardiologists, Meyer Friedman and Ray Rosenman, gave the idea in the 1950s while studying heart patients. Many of them shared one pattern: always hurried, impatient and competitive. They called it Type A, and its opposite Type B.

A Type A person is aggressively involved in a chronic, incessant struggle to achieve more and more in less and less time. Typical signs:

  • Walks and eats fast and feels constant time urgency.
  • Hates waiting and does two or more things at once.
  • Feels guilty when relaxing; measures success by quantity.
  • Highly competitive, sometimes hostile, and more prone to stress and heart disease.

A Type B person, by contrast, is rarely harried by the desire to obtain more in less time. He is relaxed, easy-going and patient, and never suffers from a sense of time urgency.

Do the BBA 101 notes cover the full GGSIPU syllabus?

Yes. Every topic in the official BBA 101 syllabus has its own numbered section in the notes. The notes also add motivation theories (4.4) and leadership styles (4.7), which course outcome CO2 and CO5 point to but the unit text does not list.

How to write BBA 101 answers: definition-led short answers and ten-to-fifteen-mark answers built from tables and diagrams

BBA 101 has no numericals to fall back on, so marks depend on structure. Every short answer in the notes opens with a named definition (Robbins, Koontz, Drucker, Simon) and adds one line that sets it apart. Every long answer is an answer-point outline that tells you which table and which diagram to draw, and in what order.

The book's advice on page 4: read each unit once fully, revise from its quick revision table, then practise the long questions from the outlines.

Worked example: Unit 1, long question 9

"Explain the concept and need of management. Discuss the functions of management." The outline on page 21 runs:

  1. Meaning plus three definitions (section 1.1).
  2. Nature in 5-6 points (1.2), then need in 6-8 points (1.3).
  3. Five functions with one example each and a flow diagram of the process (1.4).
  4. One line that co-ordination is the essence of management, then a conclusion.

Four of the book's exam tips save easy marks. A policy allows discretion; a rule allows none. Negative reinforcement is not punishment, because it increases behaviour. Write Performance = Ability × Motivation in motivation answers. For Fayol, use the book's memory string to recall all 14 principles in order.

Practise it on GGSIPU BBA important questions before the class test.

Short questions carry full answers; long ones carry answer-point outlines. The BBA 101 notes answer 32 two-to-five-mark questions and outline 30 ten-to-fifteen-mark answers across 4 units, with 17 labelled diagrams.

  1. Unit I: What is the Hawthorne effect? People perform better when they feel observed and cared for; name Elton Mayo's studies (page 20).
  2. Unit II: What is bounded rationality? Herbert Simon: limited information, time and mental capacity, so managers "satisfice" (page 42).
  3. Unit III: What is cognitive dissonance? Leon Festinger: discomfort when attitude and behaviour clash, reduced by changing one or justifying (page 61).
  4. Unit IV: What is referent power? Power from admiration; followers want to be like the person, as with a charismatic leader (page 79).

BBA 101 and the GGSIPU BBA Sem 1 papers it connects to

BBA 101 has no paired lab; every paper and its units are on the GGSIPU BBA syllabus page.

BBA 107 Business Economics teaches behavioural economics, which pairs with bounded rationality in Unit II (2.8). BBA 109 Entrepreneurial Mindset (NUES) asks for external environment analysis in its business plan unit, the PESTLE and SWOT work of section 2.4.

BBA 111 Life Skills and Personality Development (NUES) runs team tasks and group discussions, where Unit III personality and Unit IV conflict handling turn practical. The other Sem 1 papers are BBA 103 Business Mathematics, BBA 105 Financial Accounting and Analysis, BBA 113 IT Applications in Business and its lab BBA 115.

BBA 101 Management notes FAQs

How do I get the full BBA 101 notes?

The full BBA 101 notes come only as a printed book; there is no PDF edition. Tap "Get Full Notes" to message us on WhatsApp at 9899436384, and our team will share the price, payment steps and delivery details there. Before ordering, open the 7-page sample PDF at the top of this page to check the layout and writing style.

Do the BBA 101 notes follow the 2024-25 NEP syllabus?

Yes. The BBA 101 notes follow the BBA NEP scheme effective from the 2024-25 session, so they fit students admitted in 2024-25 or later. We checked them against the revised official PDF on 13 October 2026; all four units match, and every printed topic has its own numbered section. If you joined before 2024, your units may differ.

What is the passing mark for BBA 101?

BBA 101 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 in the external examination. The internal 40 is a 15-mark class test plus 25 marks from at least two activities, such as assignments or presentations. The BBA scheme PDF does not print a pass percentage, so we do not state one. End-term minimums and re-appear rules are in Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.

Which BBA 101 unit is the longest in the notes?

Unit II, Planning and Organizing, is the longest in the BBA 101 notes: 22 pages, 17 sections and 6 diagrams, from page 24 to page 45. It is two topics in one unit, so it carries the most comparison tables, such as line vs staff authority and delegation vs decentralisation. Most students split it over two sittings, planning first and organizing after.

Are theories of motivation part of BBA 101?

The BBA 101 unit text lists only the concept, importance and types of motivation, but course outcome CO2 asks students to examine the relevance of motivation theories. So section 4.4 covers Maslow, Herzberg, McGregor, McClelland and Vroom, and the long-question set includes an outline on how Maslow and Herzberg apply today. Use concepts for short answers, theories for long ones.

Does BBA 101 have a lab or practical exam?

No. BBA 101 is a theory paper with four lectures a week, no tutorial or practical hours, and 4 credits. The only Semester 1 lab is BBA 115, linked to BBA 113 IT Applications in Business. Your BBA 101 internal marks come from the class test and activities such as assignments, presentations, viva-voce, group discussion or class participation.
