BBA 205 Unit 3: Measurement
Also covered as "Measurement, Sampling and Hypothesis Testing" (pages 35-53, 19 sections). Part A covers scales, NOIR levels, attitude scaling, questionnaires, reliability and validity; Part B sampling and sample size; Part C Type I and II errors, Z, t, ANOVA, Chi-square and regression. Counts: 9 worked numericals, 15 short and 8 long practice questions, 4 practice numericals with answers.
Quick look: a Z-test for a single mean (from page 47)
- Claim 500 units a day; 64 outlets average 520; σ = 80. H₀: μ = 500, H₁: μ ≠ 500.
- Z = (520 − 500) ÷ (80 ÷ √64) = 20 ÷ 10 = 2.00
- Critical value at 5%, two-tailed = 1.96
- 2.00 > 1.96, so reject H₀: average sales are significantly higher than 500.
BBA 205 Unit 4: Report Preparation
Also covered as "Report Preparation and Ethics in Research" (pages 54-65, 12 sections). Report types, the three-part layout, Kothari's six writing steps, a model literature-review paragraph, one textbook cited in five styles, research ethics and the UGC 2018 plagiarism levels. Counts: 12 short and 8 long practice questions, a project-report outline with page ranges and an 8-point checklist.

Field study and laboratory study in business research: excerpt from page 27 of the BBA 205 notes
Excerpt from page 27
Field study (continued)
A field study can be non-experimental, where the researcher simply observes or surveys the real situation, or a field experiment, where one variable is changed in the real setting, such as moving a product to a different shelf in actual stores.
- Example 1: studying how a new incentive scheme affects the company's actual sales staff.
- Example 2: test-marketing a new biscuit in Jaipur and Lucknow before a national launch.
Its strengths are realism (results apply to real life, so external validity is high), natural behaviour, suitability for complex organisational problems and rich practical information. Its limits are weak control over outside variables, higher cost and time, difficulty in proving exact cause and effect, and the risk that competitors notice a test market.
Laboratory study
A laboratory study is carried out in an artificial, controlled environment that the researcher creates. The researcher changes the independent variable and holds every other variable steady, so the effect on the dependent variable can be measured precisely.
- Example 1: showing two versions of a TV ad to two groups of students in a classroom and measuring brand recall.
- Example 2: a taste test of three colas served in unmarked cups at a research centre.
- Example 3: eye-tracking equipment that shows which part of a web page users look at first.
It gives high control over outside variables, clear cause and effect (high internal validity), easy repetition, and is quicker and cheaper than large field experiments. On the other hand, the setting is artificial, people may behave differently when they know they are watched (the Hawthorne effect), it does not suit every business problem and samples are small.
| Basis | Field study | Laboratory study |
|---|---|---|
| Setting | Natural, real-life | Artificial, created by the researcher |
| Control of variables | Low | High |
| Internal validity (cause and effect) | Lower | Higher |
| External validity (real-life use) | Higher | Lower |
| Cost and time | More | Less |
| Example | Test market in two cities | Ad-recall test in a classroom |

How to write BBA 205 answers: hypothesis-test numericals, comparison tables and fifteen-mark theory answers
- Numericals. Write seven parts every time: H₀ and H₁, formula, working, table value with degrees of freedom, decision, and a one-line business conclusion. State one-tailed or two-tailed and the level of significance. In sample-size questions, always round up.
- Long theory answers. For fifteen marks: definition with the author's name, a flow chart, each point explained, one business example and a short conclusion. Method questions in Unit 2 follow meaning, types, example, advantages, limitations and a comparison table. An ethics answer in Unit 4 is easiest around three parties: respondent, researcher and sponsor.
- Slips the notes warn about. H₁ without H₀, not reverse-scoring a negative Likert item, and reading correlation as causation (ice-cream and AC sales both rise with summer heat).
Worked example: sample size for a mean (page 45)
- Estimate students' average mobile bill: σ = ₹200, error E = ₹20, 95% confidence.
- n = (Z × σ ÷ E)² with Z = 1.96.
- n = (1.96 × 200 ÷ 20)² = (19.6)² = 384.16
- Answer: 385 students, rounded up.

- Unit 2 (short): Distinguish between cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. Pointer: the "snapshot vs film" table on page 29.
- Unit 3 (numerical): A dealer claims 80% of customers pay on time; 72 of 100 did. Test at 5%. Pointer: Z-test for a proportion, pages 47-48; printed answer Z = −2.0, reject H₀.
- Unit 4 (short): Explain the UGC 2018 levels of plagiarism. Pointer: the four-level table on page 63.
The BBA 205 notes set 52 short-answer and 32 long-answer practice questions across 4 units, plus 11 worked numericals and examples.
More practice sits in the BBA 205 important questions.
BBA 205 and the GGSIPU BBA Sem 3 papers it connects to
BBA 205 has no separate lab code; its practicum note sits inside the syllabus, and every Sem 3 code is in the GGSIPU BBA syllabus.
Unit 2 analysis maps to Excel's =CORREL() and PivotTables (page 32); Unit 3 tests to the Data Analysis ToolPak and =CHISQ.TEST() (page 51); Unit 4 puts that output in the report annexure (page 60).
Other Sem 3 papers: BBA 201 Business Environment and Law, BBA 203 Production and Operations Management, two electives, BBA 217 NSS/NCC/Club Activities (NUES) and the course basket. BBA 203 Unit 3 covers quality control, like the BBA 205 t-test on 500 g packets (page 48). BBA 204 Business Analytics (Sem 4) then builds on Units 2 and 3.

BBA 205 Research Methodology notes FAQs
How do I get the full BBA 205 notes?
Order the full BBA 205 notes as a printed book on WhatsApp at 9899436384; they are not sold as a PDF. Tap "Get Full Notes" at the top or the order button at the end, and the chat opens with your paper code filled in. Open "View Sample PDF" first to see pages from each unit. Delivery takes 5-7 days at most; the exact time depends on your location.
Are the BBA 205 notes written for the 2024-25 NEP scheme?
Yes. The BBA 205 notes follow the GGSIPU BBA scheme that applies from academic session 2024-25, which places Business Research Methodology in Semester 3 as a 4-credit major paper. All four official units are covered in order. If you were admitted before 2024-25 under the older scheme, compare your syllabus with the coverage table on this page first.
What is the passing mark for BBA 205?
BBA 205 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The BBA scheme of examination does not print a pass percentage for this paper, so we do not quote one. End-term minimums, overall passing and re-appear rules are set by the university's Ordinance 11 on examinations and results, published on ipu.ac.in. Check it, or ask your institute, for the current figure.
Does BBA 205 have a separate practical or lab exam?
No separate lab code appears for BBA 205 in the Semester 3 scheme. The syllabus note says the course combines lecture and practicum credits, so the practicum gets due weightage in the 40 internal marks, using Excel, SPSS, R, Python or similar tools. The notes support this with Excel and SPSS steps for descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Chi-square and regression.
Can the BBA 205 notes help me plan my BBA project report?
Yes, for learning the report format. Unit 4 of the BBA 205 notes explains the three-part layout, a five-chapter outline with typical page ranges, literature review and citations, and an eight-point checklist on structure, hypotheses, citations and plagiarism. Your report must still be your own research; the notes teach the method, not a ready-made report.
Are the BBA 205 practice questions solved?
The 84 practice questions in the BBA 205 notes are listed without model answers; each points back to the unit section where the answer is built. Four Unit 3 practice numericals carry printed results. The 11 worked numericals and examples, mostly in Unit 3, are solved step by step with formula, working, decision and a one-line conclusion.
