  2. Net benefit = ₹6,00,000.
  3. ROI = (6,00,000 ÷ 4,00,000) × 100 = 150%.
  4. Benefit-cost ratio = 10,00,000 ÷ 4,00,000 = 2.5 : 1.

Learning curves and the plateau in training: excerpt from page 33 of the BBA 207 notes

Excerpt from page 33 (Unit 3), rewritten for the web. The page itself, with its four-curve diagram, is in the sample PDF.

What a learning curve shows

A learning curve is a graph of the rate of learning over time. The X-axis shows time or the number of trials (practice), and the Y-axis shows the level of learning or performance, such as output, accuracy or speed. Trainers use it to see how fast trainees learn and the point at which progress starts to slow down.

The idea was first studied by Hermann Ebbinghaus in 1885 through memory experiments. In industry, T.P. Wright applied it in 1936 to aircraft production, where the labour time per unit fell as cumulative output went up.

Four types of learning curve

1. Decreasing returns (negatively accelerating): learning is very rapid at the start and slows later. This is the most common pattern for simple tasks, for example learning to use a new billing machine.

2. Increasing returns (positively accelerating): learning is slow at first and speeds up once the basics are mastered, for example learning complex software or a new language.

3. S-shaped curve: a mix of the two, with a slow start, a rapid middle and a slow end. It is common for complex skills learnt from scratch.

4. Curve with a plateau: progress stops for a while, shown as a flat portion, before it improves again.

The plateau

A plateau is a period in which no visible improvement occurs even though practice continues. It is temporary, but it can discourage trainees.

On the page, Fig 3.4 draws all four shapes on the same axes, "Learning / Performance" against "Time / Number of Trials", with the flat stretch of the fourth curve marked as the plateau. That makes the difference between a curve that rises fast and levels off and one that starts slow and then climbs clear at a glance. The causes of a plateau and their remedies follow on the next page of the notes.

Do the BBA 207 notes cover the full GGSIPU syllabus?

BBA 207 and the GGSIPU BBA Sem 3 papers it connects to

BBA 207 has no paired lab. Its place in the full course is on the GGSIPU BBA syllabus page.

BBA 205 Business Research Methodology teaches the questionnaires, interviews and focus groups that Unit 2 uses as TNA methods (page 24). BBA 201 Business Environment and Law sits behind compliance-based TNA and diversity training, where the notes cite the POSH Act, 2013.

The other Sem 3 electives are BBA 209 Consumer Behavior, BBA 211 Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, BBA 213 Management of International Business and BBA 215 Foundation of Entrepreneurship and Startups. You pick two from different specialisations, so the GGSIPU BBA Sem 3 Training and Development notes are usually paired with one of these. For an HRM major, the next paper is BBA 208 Talent Management in Semester 4.

How to write BBA 207 answers: ADDIE diagrams, case-study analysis and ROI working

The notes' exam tips say: draw ADDIE with its feedback loop, the three-box TNA figure, and the Kirkpatrick table with a small ROI sum.

  • 10–15 Marks: a one-line definition with an author (Flippo, Goldstein and Ford, Hamblin), a diagram, the points, and a short conclusion. For TNA methods, the notes advise 8 to 10 methods with one merit and one limitation each.
  • 2–5 Marks: definition first, then three or four points or a small difference table, for example orientation vs socialisation.
  • Case studies: name the mistakes, then apply a named model.

Worked example: ROI (Unit 4 short question, page 55)

Calculate ROI if training cost is ₹2 lakh and benefits are ₹5 lakh.

  1. Net benefit = 5 − 2 = ₹3 lakh.
  2. ROI = (3 ÷ 2) × 100 = 150%.
  3. Benefit-cost ratio = 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 : 1.

Dividing total benefits by cost gives 250%, which is not ROI.

BBA 207 Training and Development notes FAQs

How do I get the full BBA 207 notes?

Message Unnati Educations on WhatsApp at 9899436384 with the code BBA 207. The full notes come as a printed book of 57 pages covering all four units; they are not available as a PDF. Delivery takes 5 to 7 days at most, depending on your location. You can check one real page from each unit through the sample PDF button at the top.

Is BBA 207 compulsory for every GGSIPU BBA Semester 3 student?

No. BBA 207 is the Human Resource Management elective, one of five specialisation electives in Semester 3. Each student picks two from different specialisations, one for the major and one for the minor. An elective runs only when at least 10% of students opt for it, so check which electives your institute is offering this year.

What is the passing mark for BBA 207?

BBA 207 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The internal 40 is a 15-mark class test plus 25 marks for at least two activities such as assignments or viva. The BBA scheme PDF does not print a pass percentage, so we do not state one; end-term minimums and re-appear rules are in GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.

Do the BBA 207 notes cover "AI in training and development"?

Yes. Section 10 of Unit 3, on pages 37 and 38, covers ten applications of AI in training, from adaptive learning and chatbots to generative AI content and skill-gap analytics, then its benefits, challenges and a traditional versus AI-enabled comparison table. The NovaBank case study on page 39 asks how AI and an LMS can be used in a real upskilling programme.

Which BBA 207 unit takes the most pages?

Unit 4, Designing Training & Development Programme, is the longest, running from page 42 to 56. Unit 3 follows with pages 28 to 41, Unit 1 has pages 4 to 16 and Unit 2, the shortest, has pages 17 to 27. Plan revision time in roughly the same ratio, giving the two long units the most hours.

Are the BBA 207 case studies solved?

Yes, one per unit, because the official syllabus asks for case studies with the concepts. They are FreshMart (training without TNA), QuickCare (training versus non-training needs), NovaBank (choosing methods and using AI) and TechNest (onboarding, diversity and evaluation). Each has three questions and suggested answer points that apply a named model such as ADDIE or Kirkpatrick.
