How to write BBA 314 answers: diagram-led long answers on RBI, SEBI and NPAs with Indian examples
BBA 314 is mostly descriptive; the T-Bill yield is one of its few calculations. Marks come from structure, a clean diagram and current Indian examples, and the notes' own exam tips push two habits.
- Diagram first: for "components of the financial system", draw the five-component chart (Figure 1.2), then give each component four or five lines and two Indian examples.
- A linking conclusion: close a primary vs secondary market answer by saying the two are complementary, since investors buy IPOs only because they can sell later on an exchange.
Worked plan, ten-mark RBI question (page 27): four or five lines of background (founded 1 April 1935 under the RBI Act, 1934; nationalised 1949); the organisational structure diagram; eight functions under headings (currency issuer, banker to Government, banker's bank, regulator, forex manager, payment-system regulator, developmental role, consumer protection); two closing lines on the e-rupee and the Integrated Ombudsman Scheme.
Mistakes the notes flag: calling money and capital markets physical places; writing that reverse repo is RBI borrowing at a higher rate; saying the MPC sets CRR and SLR (it votes only on the repo rate and stance); calling the e-rupee a cryptocurrency. Each costs easy marks.

Treasury Bills, Commercial Paper and Certificates of Deposit in the Indian money market: excerpt from page 24 of the BBA 314 notes
Excerpt from page 24
Treasury Bills (T-Bills)
Treasury Bills are short-term debt instruments that RBI issues on behalf of the Government of India to meet short-term cash needs. They are zero-coupon securities: a T-Bill is issued at a discount and redeemed at its face value, so the investor's return is the gap between the two prices.
- Types: 91-day, 182-day and 364-day T-Bills. Cash Management Bills, for less than 91 days, cover temporary mismatches, and state governments use 14-day intermediate T-Bills to invest surplus cash.
- Auction: RBI holds weekly auctions on its e-Kuber platform; retail investors can bid through RBI Retail Direct.
- Minimum amount: ₹25,000, and in multiples of ₹25,000.
- Features: sovereign and so free of default risk, highly liquid, eligible for SLR and used as collateral in repo deals.
Example: a 91-day T-Bill with a face value of ₹100 is issued at ₹98.50. Yield = (100 − 98.50) / 98.50 × 365 / 91 × 100 = about 6.11% a year.
Commercial Paper (CP)
Commercial Paper is an unsecured, short-term promissory note issued at a discount by highly rated companies, NBFCs and All-India Financial Institutions to raise working capital. India introduced it in 1990.
- Maturity: 7 days to 1 year. Denomination: minimum ₹5 lakh and multiples of it.
- Eligibility: a credit rating from a SEBI-registered rating agency is compulsory, and CP is issued only in dematerialised form.
- Investors: banks, mutual funds, corporates, NBFCs, FPIs within limits and individuals.
- Benefit: for top-rated companies it is usually cheaper than a bank loan, which makes it a textbook case of disintermediation.
Certificate of Deposit (CD)
A Certificate of Deposit is a negotiable money market instrument that banks and select financial institutions issue against funds deposited for a fixed period. India introduced it in 1989.
- Issuers: scheduled commercial banks (but not RRBs) and select All-India Financial Institutions.
- Maturity: 7 days to 1 year for banks; 1 to 3 years for financial institutions.
- Minimum: ₹5 lakh and multiples of it, issued at a discount or with a coupon.

How do I get the full BBA 314 notes?
Tap the Get Full Notes button to message us on WhatsApp at 9899436384. The complete BBA 314 notes come only as a printed book; they are not available as a PDF. Price and payment details are shared on WhatsApp. Delivery takes a maximum of 5 to 7 days, depending on your location.
How many marks is BBA 314 out of, and what is the passing mark?
BBA 314 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The internal 40 is a 15-mark class test plus 25 marks for activities such as assignments or a viva. The BBA scheme PDF states no pass percentage for theory papers, so check end-term minimums and re-appear rules in GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.
Is BBA 314 compulsory for every Semester 6 BBA student?
No. BBA 314 is a Finance specialisation elective, taken as a Major Elective if Finance is your major or as a Minor Elective if it is your minor. The scheme says electives run at the discretion of the college or university, so confirm with your institute that the Finance group is offered before you plan Semester 6.
Do the BBA 314 notes follow the 2024-25 NEP syllabus?
Yes. The BBA 314 notes follow the revised NEP-based BBA scheme from the 2024-25 session, in the official topic order. Newer items are covered too: the MPC and policy rates in Unit 2, cryptocurrencies in Unit 3, and the IBC, 2016 and MUDRA in Unit 4. The syllabus map table on this page shows each match.
Which BBA 314 unit is the longest in the notes?
Unit 4, Banking and Other Financial Institutions, runs 19 pages across 14 sections, from payment banks and NPAs through to NABARD. Unit 3 is next with 17 pages. The syllabus gives both 16 lecture hours, against 14 each for Units 1 and 2, so plan more revision time for the second half of the paper.
Do the BBA 314 notes include current RBI rates?
Yes. The Unit 2 policy rates table gives the repo, SDF, MSF, Bank Rate, CRR and SLR as per the MPC decision of 7 October 2026, and update boxes cover recent SEBI and banking changes. Rates can change at every MPC meeting, so the notes advise checking the RBI website before your BBA 314 end-term exam.
