Linear vs circular business models in sustainable entrepreneurship: excerpt from page 20 of the BBA 322 notes

Excerpt from page 20

3.1 Linear vs circular business models

A linear business follows one straight path: take raw material, make a product, use it, then dispose of it. Whatever is left at the end is somebody else's problem, usually a landfill. A circular business bends that path into loops, so a product is made, used, returned and remade. The difference shows up in every part of the business model, from design to the way value is earned.

Remember: the R-ladder

Circular options are ranked from most to least preferred: Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle and finally Recover (energy). Landfill is the last option, used only after every step on the ladder has been tried. In an answer, writing the ladder as a downward arrow chain shows the examiner you know the order, not just the words.

3.2 Design strategies for circularity: (a) Cradle-to-cradle

Cradle-to-cradle was developed by William McDonough and Michael Braungart in their 2002 book of the same name. The older "cradle-to-grave" view assumes a product ends its life in a landfill. Cradle-to-cradle designs products so that every material is safe and keeps cycling, following the idea that "waste equals food". The notes then split this into two cycles, biological and technical, with a diagram on the next page.

Do the BBA 322 notes cover the full GGSIPU syllabus?

BBA 322 and the GGSIPU BBA Sem 6 papers it connects to

BBA 322 has no paired lab; the full paper list is on the GGSIPU BBA syllabus page.

Its closest Semester 6 partner is BBA 324 Entrepreneurial Finance, where Unit 3's impact investing, green bonds and CSR grants add a sustainability angle. BBA 302 Business Policy and Strategy shares Unit 3's SWOT and PESTEL, and BBA 304 Digital and Social Media Marketing pairs with Unit 2's green marketing.

Earlier track papers (BBA 109 Entrepreneurial Mindset, BBA 215, BBA 216 and BBA 218 Sustainability Practices) meet in the Unit 4 capstone of these BBA 322 Sustainable Entrepreneurship IPU notes.

How to write BBA 322 answers: SDG tables, sustainability-lens SWOT and HOTS case answers

BBA 322 is a concept-and-case paper, so it rewards structure, tables and Indian examples more than long paragraphs. The exam tips inside the units boil down to four simple habits:

  • SDG questions: a three-column table (SDG | opportunity | example venture) covering at least five goals (Unit 1, page 9).
  • Strategy questions: SWOT as a 2 × 2 box and PESTEL as a six-row table, built on one running example such as the compostable-packaging startup (pages 30 and 31).
  • Greenwashing questions: show a valid claim ("made with 70% recycled plastic"), then add third-party certification and life-cycle disclosure.
  • ESG and impact questions: choose 5 to 10 material KPIs for the venture instead of listing every metric.

The common mistake flagged in Unit 1 is calling the Triple Bottom Line CSR. CSR often means spending part of the profit on causes; TBL means every business decision weighs people and planet along with profit. Say this clearly in any TBL answer.

Worked example: "Discuss the Triple Bottom Line approach with a case." Open with the definition and source (John Elkington, 1994). Add a three-row People, Planet, Profit table with one measure each. List four of the seven integration steps from page 8 (purpose, product design, supply chain, reporting). Close with Phool.co: temple-flower waste kept out of the Ganga (Planet), fair jobs for women (People) and premium incense sales (Profit), then one line on why TBL is not CSR.

For HOTS cases, answer each sub-part under its own label, (a) to (d), using that unit's frameworks: TBL and SDGs in Unit 1, the canvas in Unit 2, PESTEL and a funding mix in Unit 3, KPIs and SROI in Unit 4. Practise this format on GGSIPU BBA important questions.

BBA 322 Entrepreneurship notes FAQs

How do I get the full BBA 322 notes?

You order the full BBA 322 notes on WhatsApp at 9899436384. They come as a printed book only and are not sold as a PDF. Send the paper code and your delivery address; the team confirms the order on the same chat. Delivery takes a maximum of 5 to 7 days, depending on your location.

Are the BBA 322 notes available as a PDF download?

No. The full BBA 322 notes are available only as a printed book ordered on WhatsApp, not as a PDF. Online, this page gives a free summary of all four units, one quick look per unit, four exam-style questions with pointers and an excerpt from page 20, so you can judge the style before ordering.

How many marks is BBA 322 out of, and what is the passing mark?

BBA 322 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The internal 40 splits into a class test of 15 and 25 for assignments, presentations, viva or class participation. The revised BBA scheme PDF does not print a pass percentage for this paper, so check Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in or your college exam cell for end-term minimums and re-appear rules.

Is BBA 322 a major or a minor elective in BBA Semester 6?

It can be either. BBA 322 belongs to the Entrepreneurship Development specialisation with BBA 324. Under the Major-Minor scheme you take two papers for your major and one for your minor; under the Double Major scheme you take two from each of two specialisations. It carries 4 credits, and colleges offer electives at their discretion, so confirm with yours.

Which BBA 322 unit needs the most preparation time?

Unit 3 is the longest at 14 pages and has the most exam questions: 11 short-answer and 7 long-answer. It is dense with Indian facts: Section 135 CSR limits, Sovereign Green Bonds (January 2023), SISFS grant limits and a table of environmental laws. Unit 2 carries the most case studies (five), while Unit 4 holds both worked SROI numericals.

Do the BBA 322 notes help with the Unit 4 capstone startup pitch?

Yes. Pages 50 to 52 give a six-step validation process from problem to feasibility, a ten-part sustainability plan with a Theory of Change, and pitch tips such as keeping to 10 to 12 slides. A sample idea, KhetSe (stubble to compostable packaging), shows revenue, impact KPIs, a funding ask and risks, plus a mock-panel scoring table.
