- ROI = (6,00,000 ÷ 4,00,000) × 100 = 150%.

Assessment centres in HRD: excerpt from page 37 of the BBA 410 notes
Excerpt from page 37
What an assessment centre is
An assessment centre is not a place but a method. It is a standardised process in which several trained assessors evaluate candidates on several competencies using several job-related exercises, or simulations. Organisations use it for selection, promotion, spotting high-potential employees and planning their development.
Where the method came from
The German army first used it in the 1930s, followed by the British War Office Selection Boards during the Second World War. In business, AT&T in the USA first used it in 1956 in the Management Progress Study led by Douglas Bray. In India, firms such as Crompton Greaves, TVS, Godrej, SBI and Tata group companies made it popular.
Features: the "multiples"
- Multiple competencies: leadership, communication, decision making, planning and teamwork.
- Multiple exercises: each one a job-related task.
- Multiple assessors: trained managers or psychologists, often one assessor for every two candidates.
- Multiple candidates: usually 6 to 12 assessed together.
- Behaviour-based: assessors observe, record and classify what candidates actually do, not what they claim.
- Integration: final ratings come out of a consensus, or "wash-up", meeting of all assessors.
Exercises and what they test
| Exercise | What the candidate does | Competencies assessed |
|---|---|---|
| In-basket (in-tray) | Handles a pile of letters, emails and memos in limited time | Planning, prioritising, decision making, delegation |
| Leaderless group discussion | Discusses a problem with no assigned leader | Leadership, communication, teamwork, persuasion |
| Role play | Handles an angry customer or a poor performer | Interpersonal skill, empathy, conflict handling |
| Case study | Analyses business data and recommends a solution | Analytical thinking, business sense |

How to write BBA 410 answers: definition-led theory answers, model diagrams and ROI numericals
BBA 410 is a theory paper where organised answers score. These are HRD Strategies and Systems notes in English written in short exam sentences, built around four habits that match how HRD questions are framed.
1st, open with a named definition. Page 7 has a box titled "Standard Definitions (Write in Exam)" with five author definitions of HRD. Start long answers on HRD climate (Rao and Abraham), HRD audit (T.V. Rao), coaching (Whitmore) or competency (Boyatzis) the same way: author, definition, then explanation.
2nd, draw the model. All 25 figures are simple box-and-arrow flows: the HRD Matrix, Kirkpatrick plus Phillips, the leadership pipeline, the action learning cycle, GROW, the iceberg model and the Balanced Score Card chain. A five-box diagram takes two minutes and makes a ten-mark answer easy to mark.
3rd, compare in a table. "Distinguish between HRM and HRD (any four points)" or "Differentiate between an assessment centre and a development centre" are best answered as tables. The notes give ready ones: HRM vs HRD on 10 bases, training vs education vs development, coaching vs mentoring vs counselling.
4th, add an Indian example. L&T's 1975 HRD system, Infosys linking appraisal to training, Tata Steel's joint consultation with its workers' union, iGOT Karmayogi for civil servants. One line of real example, placed after the theory, lifts a plain answer above the average script.
Worked example: learning gain (practice numerical, page 30)
Pre-test average 45 marks, post-test average 72 marks. Gain = 72 - 45 = 27 marks; as a share of the pre-test score, 27 ÷ 45 × 100 = 60% improvement. Name the level too: this is Kirkpatrick Level 2, learning.
Practise this format on the GGSIPU BBA important questions.
BBA 410 exam corner: 40 two-to-five-mark and 25 ten-to-fifteen-mark practice questions by unit
Each unit ends with short (2-5 Marks) and long (10-15 Marks) exam-style practice questions, without year tags.

The BBA 410 notes set 40 two-to-five-mark and 25 ten-to-fifteen-mark questions across 4 units, plus 5 worked numericals in Unit 2.
- Unit 1 (long): Explain T.V. Rao's HRD Matrix with a neat diagram. Pointer: four linked boxes plus the bank example (page 13).
- Unit 2 (short): Define HRD climate. What is OCTAPACE? Pointer: Rao and Abraham's definition, then the eight values (page 29).
- Unit 3 (short): What is action learning? State Revans' equation. Pointer: real problems solved in sets of 4 to 8; L = P + Q, later L = P + Q + R (page 35).
- Unit 4 (long): Explain the Balanced Scorecard. How is it related to HRD? Pointer: four perspectives and why Learning and Growth is HRD's job (pages 51-52).

BBA 410 HRD notes FAQs
How do I get the full BBA 410 notes?
Tap "Get Full Notes" or the button at the end of this page to message our desk on WhatsApp. The full notes come as a printed book of 55 pages covering all 4 units; they are not sold as a PDF. Delivery takes a maximum of 5 to 7 days, and the exact time depends on your location.
Is BBA 410 compulsory in BBA Semester 8?
No. BBA 410 is an elective in the Human Resource Management basket of the Eighth Semester list, beside BBA 406 and BBA 408. The BBA (Hons.) scheme gives three Major Elective slots in Semester 8, so an HR major can take all three HR papers; the scheme adds that electives are offered at the discretion of the college or university.
What is the passing mark in BBA 410?
BBA 410 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term, as the BBA scheme states for all theory courses. The internal 40 is a 15-mark class test plus 25 marks for assignments, presentations, viva or class participation. The BBA scheme PDF does not print a pass percentage, so check end-term minimums and re-appear rules in GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.
Do the BBA 410 notes have numericals?
Yes, only in Unit 2. Page 24 works out one training ROI example (cost ₹4,00,000, benefit ₹10,00,000, ROI 150%), and page 30 gives four practice numericals with answers on ROI, benefit-cost ratio and pre-test versus post-test learning gain. Units 1, 3 and 4 are theory only, built on author definitions, labelled models and comparison tables.
Do the BBA 410 notes follow the 2024-25 NEP syllabus?
Yes. They are mapped to the revised NEP-based BBA scheme in force from academic session 2024-25, which lists BBA 410 among the Eighth Semester HR electives. The book cover carries the same "w.e.f. 2024-25" label, and every official topic in the four units matches a section in the notes, as the syllabus map above shows unit by unit.
Are the BBA 410 notes in English or Hindi?
English only. The book uses short sentences, author definitions and exam tables, with Indian examples such as L&T, Infosys, Tata Steel and SBI.
