  3. Engagement rate = 2,000 ÷ 20,000 × 100.
  4. Answer: 10%.

Hashtag campaigns and the STEPPS model in brand engagement: excerpt from page 33 of the BBA 418 notes

Excerpt from page 33 (Unit 3)

What a hashtag campaign is

A hashtag (#) is a word or phrase that groups posts around one topic and makes them searchable. A hashtag campaign is built around one unique branded tag that invites people to post, share and take part, so the audience produces much of the content.

Four types of hashtags

  • Branded hashtags, unique to one brand, such as #ShotOniPhone and #ShareACoke.
  • Campaign hashtags, made for one campaign or contest.
  • Trending hashtags, attached to topics that are popular right now.
  • Community or niche hashtags for interest groups, such as #bookstagram.

Seven steps to run one

  1. Set a clear objective: awareness, UGC or a launch.
  2. Create a short, unique tag that is easy to spell.
  3. Check that nobody already uses it in a negative way.
  4. Give people a reason to join: a contest, a cause or a fun challenge.
  5. Promote it through influencers, ads and every brand channel.
  6. Engage with participants and repost their content.
  7. Track usage, reach and sentiment.

Viral content and STEPPS

Viral content spreads very fast and very wide through shares, almost like a virus. No brand can promise that a post will go viral, but Jonah Berger's six STEPPS principles raise the odds.

Risks to mention

Hashtag hijacking happens when critics use the tag against the brand. Negative virality can hurt reputation within hours, and viral fame fades quickly, so a campaign needs core content behind it.

How to write BBA 418 answers: comparison tables, Indian brand examples and KPI numericals

The notes' tip for a 10 to 12 mark comparison (page 6): a short introduction of both ideas, a table of at least eight points, three lines on why brands combine them, and one Indian example. Other habits from the notes:

  • In brand identity answers, name the buyer persona, the positioning statement and the brand style guide (page 18).
  • Use the term "prosumer" when you discuss the consumer power shift (page 9).
  • End a personalisation answer with the privacy point (page 15).
  • Close purpose answers with "purpose must be lived, not just advertised" (page 56).

For a Unit 4 numerical, write the formula, put the values in, then state the answer. From page 48:

Campaign cost ₹50,000; revenue from the campaign ₹2,00,000.

ROI = (2,00,000 − 50,000) ÷ 50,000 × 100 = 300%.

ROAS = 2,00,000 ÷ 50,000 = 4:1 (4x).

Do the BBA 418 notes follow the 2024-25 GGSIPU BBA syllabus?

Yes. They follow the NEP-based revised BBA Scheme & Syllabus in force from academic session 2024-25, where BBA 418 is a Semester 8 Major Elective in the Marketing specialisation with 4 credits. The unit titles and topic order match the official PDF on ipu.ac.in, and the syllabus map on this page shows the notes section and page for each unit.

How many marks is BBA 418 and what is the passing mark?

BBA 418 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The internal 40 is a 15-mark class test plus 25 marks for at least two activities such as assignments, presentations or viva. The BBA scheme PDF does not print a pass percentage, so check end-term minimums and re-appear rules in University Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.

Does BBA 418 have numericals?

A few, all in Unit 4. The notes give a formula table for 14 KPIs, such as engagement rate, CTR, share of voice, NPS, CAC, CLV and ROAS, and work out four calculations: engagement rate and NPS on page 46, ROI and ROAS on page 48. The Unit 4 short-answer list asks you to calculate engagement rate, NPS or ROI.

Do the BBA 418 notes give model answers to the exam questions?

No. Each unit ends with a question list, 78 questions in all, marked as short answer (2 to 5 marks) or long answer (10 to 15 marks). The answers come from the unit sections, which are written in exam order with definitions, tables and examples. The exam corner above maps four of them to their pages.

No. BBA 418 is a theory paper with L-4, T-0 and 4 credits in the official scheme, and it has no paired lab code. The internal 40 marks can include presentations or group discussions, where Unit 2 and Unit 3 examples such as hashtag campaigns, influencer tiers and platform strategies make strong, ready talking points.
