The syllabus prints a 60-mark pattern, but the scheme makes BCA 181T a teacher-evaluated NUES paper, so ask your teacher which format the test will use. Result rules: GGSIPU Ordinance 11 (examinations and results).
It sits beside the nine credit papers in GGSIPU BCA Semester 1 papers and is the base for BCA 107T.

Integration by parts and the ILATE rule in calculus: excerpt from page 70 of the BCA 181T notes
Excerpt from page 70
Integration by parts
Integration by parts is the method for integrating a product of two different functions, such as x eˣ, x sin x or x² log x. If u is the first function and v the second, the rule is:
∫ u · v dx = u ∫ v dx − ∫ [ (du/dx) · ∫ v dx ] dx
Read it as: first function × integral of the second, minus the integral of (derivative of the first × integral of the second). The second function is integrated, the first is differentiated, so the choice of which is "first" decides whether the new integral gets easier or harder.
Choosing the first function: the ILATE rule
Take as u whichever type comes first in this order: Inverse trigonometric → Logarithmic → Algebraic → Trigonometric → Exponential. If the integrand has only one function, such as log x or tan⁻¹x on its own, write it as that function × 1 and take 1 as the second function.
Worked example: ∫ x eˣ dx
Here x is algebraic and eˣ is exponential, so ILATE makes u = x and v = eˣ. Applying the rule: x · eˣ − ∫ 1 · eˣ dx = x eˣ − eˣ. Answer: eˣ(x − 1) + C.
On the same page: proving ∫ tan x dx = log|sec x| + C
Write tan x as sin x / cos x and put cos x = t, so −sin x dx = dt. The integral becomes −∫ dt/t = −log|t| = −log|cos x|. Because −log|cos x| = log|1/cos x|, the result is log|sec x| + C.
Two quick substitution results from page 70
For ∫ sin³x cos x dx, put sin x = t so cos x dx = dt; then ∫ t³ dt = t⁴/4, giving sin⁴x/4 + C. For ∫ (2x + 3)/(x² + 3x + 5) dx, the numerator is exactly the derivative of the denominator, so the answer is log|x² + 3x + 5| + C without any working beyond spotting that.

How to write BCA 181T answers: formula-first two-mark answers and step-wise ten-mark matrix and calculus working
Every solution in the notes runs formula, numbered steps, boxed answer. Copy that shape: a two-mark answer is one formula plus a line of working; a ten-mark answer shows every step so your method is visible even if a number slips.
Worked example: Cramer's rule for 3x + 2y = 12, x − y = −1 (from page 21)
- Find
D = |3 2; 1 −1| = −3 − 2 = −5. Write "D ≠ 0, so a unique solution exists". - For
Dx, replace the x-column by the constants:|12 2; −1 −1| = −12 + 2 = −10. - For
Dy, replace the y-column:|3 12; 1 −1| = −3 − 12 = −15. x = Dx/D = 2,y = Dy/D = 3. Check in the second equation: 2 − 3 = −1.
Slips the notes flag:
- Unit 1: write the sign chart + − + / − + − / + − + before finding co-factors, and transpose the co-factor matrix for adj A (page 20).
- Unit 2: the half-angle ± comes from the quadrant of A/2, not A (page 41).
- Unit 3: for
y = xˣ + (sin x)ˣ, take logs of each part, never of the sum (page 60). - Unit 4: differentiate each answer back to check it (page 66).

One exam-style question per unit:
- Unit 1 (page 23): If A is a 3 × 3 matrix with
|A| = 4, find|2A|. Pointer:|kA| = kⁿ|A|, so 2³ × 4 = 32. - Unit 2 (page 43): In which quadrant is tan positive and sin negative? Pointer: tan is positive in I and III, sin negative in III and IV, so Quadrant III.
- Unit 3 (page 62): Evaluate
lim(x→0) (sin 4x)/x. Pointer: 4 × (sin 4x)/(4x) → 4. - Unit 4 (page 77): Evaluate
∫ x³ dxfrom −1 to 1. Pointer: odd function, so 0.

BCA 181T bridge maths notes FAQs
Who has to study BCA 181T Bridge Course in Mathematics?
Only students from a non-Mathematics background. The GGSIPU BCA scheme of examination (w.e.f. 2024-25) lists BCA 181T as a mandatory bridge course for students who did not have Mathematics in Class 12. Students who did study it are not required to take it, though these notes still work well as a refresher before BCA 107T.
What is the passing mark for BCA 181T?
BCA 181T is marked out of 100 by your course teacher as Teacher's Continuous Evaluation, with no university end-term exam. The BCA scheme of examination states pass marks as 40%, which is 40 out of 100, and the marksheet shows only Pass or Fail. For minimum-mark and re-appear rules, read GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.
Does BCA 181T add credits to BCA Semester 1?
No. The scheme lists BCA 181T as a NUES non-credit subject, with "Pass Grade" in place of credits, so it adds nothing to the 26 credits of Semester 1. Passing is still mandatory for the students who must take it. How it shows on your grade card is governed by Ordinance 11; check with your college examination cell.
Which BCA 181T unit should I study first?
The study plan on page 3 of the notes suggests Units 1 and 4 first, because their long answers follow fixed routines: inverse and Cramer's rule in Unit 1, by parts and partial fractions in Unit 4. Unit 3 comes next and Unit 2 last. Unit 3 has the most solved examples (34), so give it extra time and revise each unit from its quick revision table.
Will the BCA 181T notes help with BCA 107T?
Yes, as a base. BCA 107T Unit III uses Gaussian elimination and Gauss-Jordan inversion, which assume the determinant, adjoint and inverse work of BCA 181T Unit 1. Its Newton-Raphson method and numerical differentiation need Unit 3 derivatives, and the trapezoidal and Simpson's rules approximate Unit 4 definite integrals. The 181T notes do not teach the 107T methods themselves.
