BCA 218T Web Development using Python Notes unit-wise: 40 solved two-mark questions and 19 diagrams across 4 units
These GGSIPU BCA Sem 4 Web Development using Python notes follow one Django project from install to URL, template, model, form and admin. Each unit ends with an exam corner and a quick revision table. Notes for every other paper sit under GGSIPU BCA notes.
The official syllabus numbers units only, so these titles are the notes' own.
BCA 218T Unit 1: Introduction to Django
Unit 1 traces a browser request through DNS to a server and back, then revises HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Bootstrap. Part C defines a web framework, MVT and Django's history. Part D installs Django in a virtual environment, starts a project, sets the database and runs the development server.
Pages 4-20 · 16 sections · 10 solved two-mark, 7 ten-mark questions · 5 diagrams.

BCA 218T Unit 2: Views, URLconfs and the Template System
Unit 2 is the longest. Part A writes views, uses path converters and include(), and explains loose coupling and error pages. Parts B and C cover template loading and inheritance with {% block %} and {% extends %}. Part D builds a model, runs CRUD, links models with ForeignKey and renders Context objects.
Pages 21-40 · 19 sections · 10 solved two-mark, 9 ten-mark questions · 4 diagrams.

BCA 218T Unit 3: Django Apps, Models and Django Forms
Unit 3 separates a project from an app, then covers model field types and options, class Meta, __str__() and migrations. Part C builds a contact form in four steps (forms.py, view, template, URL), handles GET and POST, adds Bootstrap-ready widgets and writes simple validation.
Pages 41-58 · 16 sections · 10 solved two-mark, 9 ten-mark questions · 5 diagrams.

Template variables and the if tag in Django: excerpt from page 28 of the BCA 218T notes
Excerpt from page 28
Why templates?
Templates keep design and logic apart. HTML stays out of Python, so designers edit templates and programmers edit views. One base layout can be shared by every page through inheritance. Variables are auto-escaped, which blocks XSS attacks, and a change in design never needs a change in Python.
The four building blocks of DTL
The Django Template Language has four constructs. Variables, written {{ name }}, print a value. Tags, such as {% if %} and {% for %}, handle logic and control. Filters, such as {{ name|upper }}, change how a value is displayed. Comments, written {# note #}, never appear in the output.
DTL is limited on purpose. You cannot write any Python you like inside a template, because Django's view is that business logic belongs in views and templates should only display data. That keeps templates safe to hand over to people who are not programmers.
(a) Variables
A variable sits inside double curly braces. When the template is rendered, Django replaces it with the value from the context. The dot looks inside a variable, and Django tries these lookups in order:
| Order | Lookup | Template | Python equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dictionary key | {{ student.name }} | student["name"] |
| 2 | Attribute | {{ student.name }} | student.name |
| 3 | Method call, no arguments | {{ name.upper }} | name.upper() |
| 4 | List index | {{ marks.0 }} | marks[0] |

name.upper()

{{ marks.0 }}- Python equivalent
marks[0]
If a variable does not exist, Django prints an empty string instead of crashing. Method calls in templates cannot take arguments, and methods marked alters_data = True, such as delete(), are never called.
(b) The if tag and Boolean operators
{% if marks >= 90 %}
<p>Grade A+</p>
{% elif marks >= 60 and attendance > 75 %}
<p>Pass</p>
{% elif not submitted %}
<p>Assignment pending</p>
{% else %}

One question per unit, with pointers:
- Unit 1 (2 Marks): Differentiate between makemigrations and migrate. Pointer:
makemigrationswrites migration files;migrateapplies them to the tables. - Unit 2 (2 Marks): What is loose coupling in Django URLs? Pointer: URLs and views are independent, so a URL changes in urls.py without touching the view.
- Unit 3 (2 Marks): Differentiate between bound and unbound forms. Pointer:
Form(request.POST)carries data and can be validated;Form()is empty and only rendered. - Unit 4 (10 Marks): Explain form processing in Django with a diagram and a complete view handling GET and POST. What is the Post/Redirect/Get pattern? Pointer: draw Fig 4.4, write one view handling both methods, then show how a redirect after POST stops duplicates on refresh.
The BCA 218T notes solve 40 two-mark questions across 4 units and list 34 ten-mark questions for practice, supported by 19 diagrams.
More practice sits in the BCA 218T important questions.

How to write BCA 218T answers: two-mark definitions with code and ten-mark answers built on diagrams
BCA 218T answers mix theory and Django code. For two marks, give one definition line, then one line of code or one contrast. The notes' tip for null vs blank is the model: "null is database-related, blank is validation-related", then dob = models.DateField(null=True, blank=True).
For ten marks, structure carries the marks. The page 13 tip for "Explain the MVT architecture of Django" lists six parts:
- Definition.
- A table of Model, View and Template roles.
- The request-flow diagram (Fig 1.4).
- A small example:
Studentmodel,student_listview, template loop. - MVC vs MVT: Django itself acts as the controller.
- Advantages.
The same frame suits the request-cycle and form-processing questions (Fig 2.1, Fig 4.4).
Code must be exact. The common-errors tables flag slips: {% extends %} must be the first tag in a child template, and POST forms need {% csrf_token %} or Django returns 403. Label code with file names (# blog/views.py). Practise this format on GGSIPU BCA important questions.
BCA 218T and the BCA 218P web development lab (13 listed practicals), plus other GGSIPU BCA Sem 4 papers
BCA 218P web development lab notes: 13 listed practicals, any 10 to be implemented. PCE, 0-4-2, 100 marks.
- Unit 1 installation → practical 1.
- Unit 2 views, templates and models → practicals 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13.
- Unit 3 forms and simple validation → practicals 2 and 10 (the even-or-odd checker).
- Unit 4 admin and form validation → practicals 6 and 11 (feedback form).
Practical 12 needs class-based CRUD views, which the theory notes introduce only briefly (page 22).
Semester 4 core papers: BCA 202T Operating Systems and BCA 204T Software Testing (labs BCA 202P, BCA 204P), BCA 232 Introduction to Logic and Critical Thinking, and BCA 234 Health and Wellness, Yoga Education and Sports and Fitness (NUES).
Other electives: BCA 212T Introduction to Data Science, BCA 216T Cyber Security and Cyber Laws, BCA 220T Information Security. Generic elective: BCA 222T Digital Marketing or BCA 224T Principles of Accounting.
BCA 218T Django notes FAQs
Is BCA 218T compulsory in GGSIPU BCA Semester 4?
No. BCA 218T is a Programme Core Elective in the 2024-25 scheme. Students choose one elective pair from BCA 212, 216, 218 and 220, and each pair has a theory paper with its practical. If your institute offers Django, you take BCA 218T (4 credits) with BCA 218P (2 credits). Ask your institute which electives it runs this year.
What is the passing mark for BCA 218T?
BCA 218T is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 in the end-term exam. The BCA scheme of examination does not print a separate pass percentage for this paper; its only 40% pass line is for a non-university bridge subject. For end-term minimums, re-appear and result rules, read the university's Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.
How is the BCA 218T end-term paper set?
The instructions to paper setters make Q1 compulsory: ten short questions of 2 marks each, with at least two from every unit, for 20 marks. After that, each of the four units has two questions and you attempt one per unit, each worth 10 marks, for 40 marks. Together that makes the 60 end-term marks, and every question is mapped to a course outcome.
Which BCA 218T unit has the most material?
Unit 2, on views, URLconfs and the template system, is the largest: 20 pages and 19 sections, from the first view to template inheritance, CRUD and Context objects, plus 9 ten-mark practice questions. Unit 1 has the fewest ten-mark questions (7) because half of it revises HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Bootstrap before the Django sections begin.
Do the BCA 218T notes include the BCA 218P practicals?
No. The BCA 218T notes are theory notes for the end-term paper, with code examples that explain each topic. The BCA 218P lab has its own notes covering the practicals with aim, code and output for learning and practice. Studying both helps, because 8 of the 13 listed practicals draw directly on Unit 2 topics.
