Ad Rank and Quality Score in search engine marketing: excerpt from page 44 of the BCA 222T notes
Excerpt from page 44
The last three paid pricing models
- CPA (Cost Per Acquisition/Action): the advertiser pays for each conversion, such as a sale or sign-up. Best for sales campaigns.
- CPV (Cost Per View): pays for each video view. Best for YouTube video ads.
- CPL (Cost Per Lead): pays for each lead captured. Best for lead generation.
How the Google Ads auction works
Every time someone searches, Google runs an instant auction among advertisers bidding on matching keywords. The ad position is decided by Ad Rank, not just by the highest bid.
- Ad Rank depends on the maximum bid (Max CPC), Quality Score and ad quality, ad relevance, landing-page experience, the expected impact of ad assets (extensions) and the search context: device, location and time.
- Quality Score (1 to 10) is based on expected CTR, ad relevance and landing page experience. A higher Quality Score gives a better position at a lower cost.
The auction in five steps: user searches a keyword → auction runs among matching ads → Ad Rank = bid + quality + assets → ads shown in order → advertiser pays only on click.
Advantages and limitations of SEM
| Advantages | Limitations |
|---|---|
| Immediate visibility and traffic | Costly in competitive industries (high CPC) |
| Highly targeted: keyword, location, device, time, audience | Traffic stops when the budget ends |
| Fully measurable: clicks, conversions, ROI | Needs skill to manage bids and Quality Score |
| Flexible budget; pay only for clicks | Ad blindness: some users skip ads |
| Good for testing keywords and offers | Risk of click fraud |

BCA 222T and the GGSIPU BCA Sem 4 papers it connects to
BCA 222T has no paired lab; all Semester 4 papers are on the BCA syllabus by semester page.
GGSIPU BCA Sem 4 Digital Marketing notes matter only if your institute runs this GE-2 option. It links with:
- Unit 3 on-page SEO → BCA 218T Web Development Using Python.
- Unit 4 web analytics → BCA 212T Introduction to Data Science.
- Unit 2 email law (DPDP Act 2023) → BCA 216T Introduction to Security, Acts and Cyber Laws and Cyber Security, and BCA 220T Information Security.
- Unit 1 revenue models and ROI → BCA 224T Principles of Accounting.
Also in Semester 4: BCA 202T Operating Systems and BCA 204T Software Testing with labs BCA 202P and 204P, BCA 232 Introduction to Logic and Critical Thinking, and BCA 234 Health and Wellness, Yoga Education and Sports and Fitness (NUES).
How to write BCA 222T answers: definition-first two-mark answers and table-and-flow ten-mark answers
BCA 222T two-mark answers in the notes run two or three lines: a definition, then one formula, example or difference. "Define CTR and conversion rate" is answered with just the two formulas. Keep to that length, since ten parts share 20 marks.
For ten-mark answers, the notes' exam tips set a structure. "Meaning and importance of digital marketing" (page 6): definition for 2 marks, features for 3, importance points for 5, plus an Indian example such as Zomato or Nykaa.
"Explain on-page optimization" (page 39): a table of 10 to 12 on-page elements with best practices. "Explain any three SMM tools" (page 57): overview, five or six features, uses and one merit or limit per tool, closing with the five-tools table. Analytics answers (page 63): the Who → How → What → Converted flow, then metrics and an example for each.
Worked example: "Differentiate between organic and non-organic SEO. Which is better for a new business?" (Unit 3, 10 Marks practice set)
- Define both: organic means ranking naturally with no payment per click; non-organic means paid ads marked "Sponsored" (section 3.5).
- Draw the table: cost, SERP position, time for results, durability, trust, control, targeting.
- Answer the second part with the notes' key point: use both. Paid ads bring instant traffic and show which keywords convert; that data guides organic content for long-term free traffic.
Mistakes the notes warn against: treating internet marketing as the same as digital marketing (it is a subset; SMS and digital TV need no internet), mixing marketing emails with transactional ones such as OTPs, and forgetting that GA4 bounce rate is 100% minus engagement rate.
Practise this format on GGSIPU BCA important questions, then time yourself on the BCA 222T two-mark sets.
BCA 222T Digital Marketing notes FAQs
How do I order the BCA 222T notes book?
The BCA 222T notes come only in book form; they are not available as a PDF. Tap "Order Notes Book" or the WhatsApp button at the end and send the prefilled message to 9899436384. Our desk shares the price, payment and delivery details on WhatsApp. The 65-page book has all 4 units and 55 solved two-mark questions.
Is BCA 222T compulsory in BCA Semester 4?
No. BCA 222T Digital Marketing is one of three Generic Elective (GE-2) choices in the fourth-semester scheme. A student takes one of BCA 222T, BCA 224T Principles of Accounting or BCA 226T, an open elective from another school. All three carry 3 credits and 100 marks. Check with your institute which GE-2 options it runs.
What is the passing mark for BCA 222T?
BCA 222T is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The BCA scheme of examination does not print a separate pass percentage for this paper; the only pass figure it states is 40% for the non-credit Bridge Course in Mathematics. End-term minimums and re-appear rules come from Ordinance 11, which is published on ipu.ac.in.
Does BCA 222T need coding or maths?
No coding. The syllabus lists no pre-requisites, and BCA 222T is theory only with no lab. A few formulas do appear, and the revision tables collect them: CTR, conversion rate, ROI, ROAS, CPA, email open rate, click-to-open rate and keyword density. Units 3 and 4 each work one numerical example, which covers a formula-based two-mark part.
Do the BCA 222T notes follow the 2024-25 BCA scheme?
Yes. They are mapped to the BCA scheme and syllabus w.e.f. academic session 2024-25, which applies to the batch admitted in 2024-25 onwards. The four units match the official topic list, from P.O.E.M to Hotjar and Google Analytics. If you study under a different BCA scheme, compare your syllabus with the unit list above first.
Are the BCA 222T notes updated for GA4 and Google Ads?
Yes. The 2026-27 edition uses Google Analytics 4, which replaced Universal Analytics when UA stopped processing data in July 2023; Google Ads, the 2018 name for Google AdWords; and X, the 2023 name for Twitter. Unit 3 also covers Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns, and Unit 4 explains GA4 key events, UTM tags and data-driven attribution.
