Answers sit in each unit's pages, not beside the questions. The notes print "2.5 marks" and "12.5 marks" labels, but the current pattern gives 12 marks per question, so read them as length guides.

The MCA 134 notes list 48 short-answer and 32 long-answer exam-style questions across 4 units, plus 16 worked numericals.

One question per unit, with answer pointers:

  1. Unit 1: What is the Accounting Equation? Show its derived forms. Pointer: A = L + C, C = A − L, L = A − C (page 8).
  2. Unit 2: Name any four errors not disclosed by a Trial Balance. Pointer: omission, principle, compensating, original entry (page 19).
  3. Unit 3: What is ROCE? How is capital employed calculated? Pointer: EBIT ÷ capital employed × 100; capital employed = shareholders' funds + long-term debt (page 36).
  4. Unit 4: What is an NPA? Pointer: overdue for more than 90 days, then sub-standard, doubtful and loss (pages 46 to 47).

More practice sits in the MCA 134 important questions.

How to write MCA 134 answers: journal entries, working notes and ratio interpretations

Units 1 to 3 reward format and arithmetic; Unit 4 rewards structure. The notes' "Common Mistakes Students Make" boxes list the costly slips.

Journal and ledger answers

Write the narration under every entry; the Unit 1 box warns marks are cut without it. Goods taken by the owner are credited to Purchases A/c, not Sales or Stock. In full settlement, Discount Received is credited and Discount Allowed is debited.

Final accounts

Deduct Returns Inwards from Sales and Returns Outwards from Purchases. Carriage Inwards belongs in the Trading A/c and Carriage Outwards in the P&L A/c. Drawings come off Capital, never the P&L. Show every adjustment twice unless the item already sits inside the trial balance.

Worked example: the bad debts working note (from the Mr Arjun illustration, page 25)

Debtors after further bad debts = 80,000 − 1,000 = 79,000
New provision @ 5% = 3,950
Charge to P&L = 2,000 + 1,000 + 3,950 − 3,000 (old) = 3,950
Balance Sheet: Debtors 80,000 − 1,000 − 3,950 = 75,050

Balance Sheet: Debtors 80,000 − 1,000 − 3,950 = 75,050

A working note like this earns method marks even if a later figure slips.

Theory answers

If a question asks for accounting conventions, write all four (conservatism, consistency, materiality, full disclosure) with examples.

Ratio answers

Write the formula, the substitution, the result and one line of interpretation for every ratio; the Unit 3 box ties that last line to CO4 (Analyze). Quick assets exclude both inventory and prepaid expenses, ROCE uses EBIT, and if opening debtors or creditors are missing, say that you used closing balances.

Unit 4 long answers

The notes give a ladder for a risk question: define risk, tabulate four or five risk types with examples, add the tools for each, then Basel norms with the CRAR formula, NPA classes and the role of RBI.

Practise this format on GGSIPU MCA important questions.

RBI, SEBI and other regulators in the Indian financial system: excerpt from page 41 of the MCA 134 notes

Excerpt from page 41

2.1 Regulators

Five bodies oversee the Indian financial system. The Reserve Bank of India, set up in 1935 and nationalised in 1949, is the central bank: it runs monetary policy, regulates banks and NBFCs, issues currency, manages foreign exchange and payment systems, and acts as banker to the government.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India was set up in 1988 and given statutory powers in 1992. It is the capital market regulator: it protects investors, regulates stock exchanges, brokers, mutual funds, merchant bankers and IPOs, and works to prevent insider trading.

IRDAI (1999) regulates and develops the insurance sector and protects policyholders. PFRDA (2003, statutory from 2013) regulates pension funds and manages the National Pension System. The Ministry of Finance sets overall financial policy, presents the Union Budget and oversees public sector financial institutions.

2.2 Role of RBI (most important)

  • Monetary authority: RBI frames and runs monetary policy to control inflation and support growth. Its tools are the repo rate, reverse repo, CRR, SLR, open market operations and the MSF.
  • Issuer of currency: it has the sole right to issue currency notes, except one-rupee notes, which the Government issues.
  • Banker to the Government: it manages government accounts and public debt.
  • Banker's bank and lender of last resort: it holds the reserves of banks and gives emergency liquidity when a bank needs it.
  • Regulator and supervisor of banks, NBFCs and payment systems.
  • Custodian of foreign exchange reserves: it holds the reserves and manages FEMA.
  • Developmental role: financial inclusion, priority-sector lending and the push for digital payments.

2.3 Role of SEBI

SEBI's work is usually written under three heads. The first is protective: it guards investors' interests, stops insider trading, price rigging and fraudulent practices, and runs investor education. The regulatory and developmental heads continue on the next page of the notes.

For a long answer on participants, start with this regulator table, then add the intermediaries (banks, NBFCs, development institutions, insurers, mutual funds, pension funds) and the market infrastructure (exchanges, depositories, clearing corporations, rating agencies).

MCA 134 accounting notes FAQs

How do I get the full MCA 134 notes?

Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp through the "Get Full Notes" button and mention the code MCA 134 so the team sends the right book. The full MCA 134 notes come only as a printed book; they are not available as a PDF. Delivery takes 5 to 7 days at most, and the exact time depends on your location.

What is the passing mark for MCA 134?

MCA 134 is marked out of 100, and its end-term paper carries 60 of those marks (12 + 4 × 12). The MCA scheme of examination states passing marks as 40 out of 100 for every paper, which is 40%. For any separate end-term minimum and for re-appear rules, read GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in, which governs the programme.

Is MCA 134 compulsory in MCA Semester 2?

No. MCA 134 is one of four Open Elective I papers, and you choose one of them: MCA-128, MCA-130, MCA-132 or MCA-134. Each carries 4 credits. If fewer than 20 students choose MCA 134 at your institute, the scheme says no classes are held and you complete it through a MOOC with prior approval of the programme committee.

Which MCA 134 unit has the most numericals?

Unit 3 does. It holds 9 of the 16 worked numericals in the MCA 134 notes: the NRV rule, a FIFO, LIFO and weighted average ledger, a common size statement, a trend table and five ratio groups on one company's figures. Unit 2 follows with 4, ending in a full set of final accounts with six adjustments.

Do the MCA 134 notes match the 2025-26 MCA syllabus?

Yes for the topics: all four units of the MCA 134 syllabus that runs from A.S. 2025-26 are covered with no gaps. One difference: the notes label short answers 2.5 marks and long answers 12.5 marks, while the current paper-setter pattern gives 12 marks to Q1 and 12 marks to each unit question, for 60 in all.

Why do the MCA 134 notes teach LIFO if AS-2 does not allow it?

The official MCA 134 syllabus names FIFO, LIFO and weighted average cost in Unit III, so examiners can ask all three. The notes solve one data set with all three methods and then add the exam tip that AS-2 and Ind AS 2 permit only FIFO and weighted average, while LIFO is still allowed under US GAAP.
