MCA-225 e-Business Systems Notes unit-wise: 73 exam-style questions across 4 units
These MCA-225 e-Business Systems IPU notes run 52 pages, each unit ending with its own question bank. The official PDF numbers units I to IV with a topic heading each, used below; the sample PDF at the top shows a page from every unit. Other MCA papers sit under GGSIPU MCA notes.
MCA-225 Unit 1: Introduction to e-business
Unit 1 (pages 3 to 15) separates e-business from e-commerce, then covers nine models, ten types, Porter's value chain and Indian e-commerce up to ONDC (2022), followed by Internet architecture, web tools, intranet, extranet and ERP. It has 5 sections, 10 short and 8 long questions.
| Basis | ERP | Web application |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Integrates all internal processes | Does one specific task online |
| Database | One central database | Its own database |
| Example | SAP, Oracle ERP | Flipkart site, Gmail |

MCA-225 Unit 2: Security Threats to e-business
Unit 2 (pages 16 to 28) is the most technical unit. It maps threats at client, channel and server, lists 14 attack types and covers privacy law up to the DPDP Act 2023. Cryptography runs from AES to RSA, digital signatures, certificates, SET and PGP, then HTTPS, firewalls and PKI. It has 5 sections, 10 short and 9 long questions.
Quick look: RSA with small numbers (from page 22)
- p = 3, q = 11, so n = 33 and φ(n) = 20.
- e = 3; solve 3d mod 20 = 1, so d = 7.
- Public key (3, 33), private key (7, 33).
- M = 4 encrypts to 4³ mod 33 = 31; 31⁷ mod 33 gives back 4.
MCA-225 Unit 3: Electronic Payment System
Unit 3 (pages 29 to 41) starts with money, e-money properties and double spending, then traces a card payment end to end. Cards, e-cash, e-cheques, smart cards, wallets and UPI are compared in one table, before EDI, infrastructure issues and EFT. It has 6 sections, 10 short and 8 long questions.

MCA-225 Unit 4: e-Business Applications & Strategies
Unit 4 (pages 42 to 52) covers ten B2C and five B2B models, six core revenue models plus freemium and others, and 16 emerging trends, then e-governance in India, digital commerce, m-commerce and a five-step strategy process. It has 7 sections, 10 short and 8 long questions.
Quick look: stages of e-governance (from page 47)
- Information: basic web presence.
- Interaction: forms and e-mail.
- Transaction: online payment and filing.
- Transformation: integrated services.
SSL/TLS handshake in e-business security: excerpt from page 25 of the MCA-225 notes
Excerpt from page 25
HTTPS and S-HTTP
HTTPS is HTTP running over SSL/TLS on port 443. The whole connection is encrypted and the browser shows a padlock. S-HTTP (Secure HTTP) works differently: it encrypts individual messages rather than the channel, which is why it never became as popular as HTTPS.
Plain HTTP sends data as plain text on port 80, needs no certificate and skips the handshake, so it is slightly faster. That speed is the problem for e-business: passwords and card numbers can be sniffed in transit, which makes HTTP unsuitable for login, banking or checkout pages.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS
Netscape developed SSL in 1994 to give a secure channel between browser and web server. Its successor is TLS (Transport Layer Security), now at version 1.3. It sits between the application layer and the TCP transport layer.
SSL provides three services. Confidentiality comes from encrypting data with a symmetric session key. Integrity comes from a message authentication code (MAC) and hashing. Authentication comes from digital certificates: the server always proves its identity, and the client can optionally do the same.
The SSL handshake, step by step
- Client Hello: the browser sends the SSL/TLS versions and cipher suites it supports, plus a random number.
- Server Hello: the server picks a cipher suite and sends its own random number.
- Server Certificate: the server sends its digital certificate, which carries its public key.
- Certificate verification: the browser checks the certificate using the CA's public key.
- Key exchange: the browser creates a pre-master secret, encrypts it with the server's public key and sends it.
- Both sides derive the same session key from that secret and the two random numbers.
- Finished messages are exchanged and the secure session begins.
- All data from here on is encrypted with the symmetric session key.
Notice the pattern: public-key cryptography is used only once, to share the secret, and fast symmetric encryption then carries the actual data. This is the hybrid approach the notes ask you to mention in any long answer on SSL.
How to write MCA-225 answers: definition-first theory answers with comparison tables and flow diagrams
MCA-225 has no programs, so marks come from structure. Under the 2025-26 pattern each unit question is worth 12 marks including sub-parts, so a long answer needs a definition, a table, a diagram and examples, not a definition alone.
Definition boxes and comparison tables
Key topics open with a "Definition (Exam Ready)" box, for example e-business (page 4), EDI (page 36) and e-governance (page 46): write that first. Then add the topic's comparison table; the notes have them for e-business vs e-commerce, Internet vs WWW, symmetric vs asymmetric keys, HTTP vs HTTPS, EDI vs e-mail and e-commerce vs m-commerce.
Three printed exam tips
- For types of e-commerce, cover at least B2C, B2B, C2C, C2B and G2C or B2G with a parties diagram and Indian examples (page 7).
- For cryptography, mention hybrid encryption (page 23).
- In Unit 4, open with the business model vs revenue model difference (page 45).
Diagrams and one-liners
Diagrams are quick marks; copy the notes' arrow flows: Porter's primary activities, the digital signature chain, the firewall boundary, the online payment route and the EDI translator path. For Q1, learn the "Yaad Rakho" one-liners, such as Internet = public, intranet = private, extranet = private plus selected partners; they turn into crisp short answers.
Worked example: "Differentiate between e-business and e-commerce."
- Definition: e-commerce is buying and selling online; e-business is running the whole business online.
- Table: scope (subset vs whole), focus (transactions vs CRM, SCM, HR, ERP), network (Internet vs Internet, intranet and extranet), example (buying a book on Amazon vs Amazon's warehouse and vendor systems).
- Close: every e-commerce is e-business, but not every e-business is e-commerce.

The MCA-225 notes list 40 short-answer and 33 long-answer questions across 4 units, plus 1 solved RSA example. They come without separate model answers or year tags, so each pointer below gives the pages that hold the answer.
One question per unit, with answer pointers:
- Unit 1: Explain Porter's value chain. How does e-commerce add value to each activity? Pointer (page 7): the e-commerce role in each primary activity, then disintermediation.
- Unit 2: What is PKI? Explain its components and working. Pointer (pages 26-27): the seven-component table, the six-step certificate cycle and India's CCA as Root CA.
- Unit 3: What is EDI? Explain its working, components, benefits and limitations. Pointer (pages 36-37): the five-step translator and VAN flow, EDIFACT and ANSI X12, and the benefits table.
- Unit 4: What is mobile commerce? Compare it with e-commerce. Pointer (pages 48-49): six features, NFC and USSD *99#, eight application areas and the comparison table.

MCA-225 e-Business notes FAQs
How do I get the full MCA-225 notes?
Message the GGSIPU desk on WhatsApp at 9899436384 through the "Get Full Notes" button. The full MCA-225 notes come as a printed book only, not as a PDF. Delivery takes 5 to 7 days at most, depending on your location. You can first check the watermarked sample PDF at the top of this page before ordering.
Do the MCA-225 notes follow the 2025-26 GGSIPU MCA scheme?
Yes. They follow the MCA scheme for affiliated institutes that applies from academic session 2025-26, so they suit students admitted in 2025-26 or later who reach Semester 3 in 2026-27. All four official units are covered topic by topic. If your batch was admitted earlier, first check the scheme that applies to your own batch.
How many marks is MCA-225 out of, and what is the passing mark?
MCA-225 is marked out of 100, and the end-term paper carries 60 of those marks: a compulsory 12-mark Q1 plus four unit questions of 12 marks each. The MCA scheme of examination states pass marks as 40%, which is 40 out of 100, for every paper. For end-term minimums and re-appear rules, see GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in.
Is MCA-225 a compulsory paper in MCA Semester 3?
No. MCA-225 is one of eleven Core Elective II choices, from MCA-205 Statistics and Data Analytics to MCA-225, and you take one for 3 credits. Elective classes need at least 20 students; with fewer, you complete the course through an approved MOOC on SWAYAM or a similar platform and still appear in the institute's exams.
Is there a practical lab paired with MCA-225?
Yes. MCA-225 students take MCA-265, the Lab based on Core Elective II, which the official PDF lists as the e-Business Systems Lab with L 0, T/P 2 and 1 credit. Its outcomes include a business model for a website, comparing payment methods and building an e-commerce site. These theory notes support that lab but are not lab notes.
Do the MCA-225 notes include model answers to the important questions?
Not as separate model answers. Each unit ends with 10 short and 8 or 9 long practice questions, and each is answered by a section of that unit: definitions, comparison tables, step lists and diagrams. Only the RSA question on page 22 has a fully worked solution. The exam corner above maps four sample questions to their pages.
