Storyboard elements and a sample frame in e-learning design: excerpt from page 13 of the MCA-255 notes

Excerpt from page 13 (Unit 1, Part B, section 8)

What a storyboard is

A storyboard is the screen-by-screen, or frame-by-frame, blueprint of an e-learning course. For every screen it records the on-screen text, the visuals, the audio narration, the interactions, the navigation and the programming notes. It is finished before development begins, so everyone builds from the same plan.

Eight elements every frame carries

  • Screen or frame ID, a unique number such as M1_L2_S05, used for tracking.
  • Screen title and the learning objective it covers.
  • On-screen text (OST): the exact words that appear.
  • Visual description: images, graphics, animation or video to show.
  • Audio or narration script, the voice-over (VO) text.
  • Interactivity: clicks, quiz type, drag-and-drop, branching.
  • Navigation: Next and Back, menu, branching logic.
  • Developer notes: timings, triggers, variables and feedback.

Three types of storyboard

A text-based storyboard is a Word or Excel table with columns for text, audio and visuals. A visual storyboard uses sketches or thumbnails of each screen, often in PowerPoint. A prototype or interactive storyboard is built directly in an authoring tool, so reviewers see the real look and feel.

Why it matters

The storyboard gives developers, designers and voice artists one clear blueprint. The SME and the client can approve it before costly development starts, which cuts rework, time and cost. It keeps every screen tied to a learning objective, and it stays on file as documentation for later updates.

How to write MCA-255 answers: comparison tables, model diagrams and the two-hour e-content design

MCA-255 has no code to run, so marks come from structure: define, draw the model, compare in a table, conclude in one line.

The notes label answers "2.5 Marks" and "12.5 Marks", but the official rules set Q1 and each unit question at 12 marks. Use the short answers for Q1 and the long questions for unit choices.

  • Development stages: group 1 to 4 as pre-production, 5 as production, 6 to 8 as post-production (page 12).
  • Open vs closed source LMS: definitions, table, 8 to 10 criteria, conclusion (page 27).

Worked example: "Differentiate between CMS and LMS"

  1. Define both in a line each: a CMS manages content; an LMS delivers and tracks learning.
  2. Draw a five-row table on focus, users, tracking, assessment and standards.
  3. Name one example of each: WordPress and Moodle.
  4. Close with the notes' line: an LCMS bridges both by managing reusable learning objects (page 25).

The MCA-255 notes solve 40 short-answer questions and list 36 long-answer questions across 4 units, each mapped to the sections that answer it.

One question per unit, with answer pointers:

  1. Unit 1: Explain the ADDIE model with a diagram and compare it with SAM. Pointer: five phases with outputs, then the ADDIE vs SAM table (pages 9 and 10).
  2. Unit 2: Give any four differences between CMS and LMS. Pointer: focus, tracking, assessment, standards (page 31).
  3. Unit 3: Design e-content of 2 hours on any topic with all components. Pointer: objectives, a 120-minute time plan and tools per component (pages 48 and 49).
  4. Unit 4: Differentiate between cMOOC and xMOOC. Pointer: learner-driven networks vs instructor-led structure (page 65).

More practice sits in the MCA-255 important questions.

MCA-255 and the GGSIPU MCA Sem 3 papers it connects to

Paired lab: none. MCA-255 has no lab code; its three practicals sit inside the syllabus, and the full GGSIPU MCA syllabus lists every Sem 3 paper.

MCA-255 e-Content notes FAQs

How do I get the full MCA-255 notes?

Message the Unnati Educations GGSIPU desk on WhatsApp at 9899436384 and ask for the MCA-255 notes book. The full notes come as a printed book of 67 pages covering all four units, the exam corners and the three practical records. Delivery takes 5 to 7 days at most, depending on your location.

Are the MCA-255 notes available as a PDF?

No. The complete MCA-255 notes are sold only as a printed book, not as a PDF or soft copy. The book carries the same unit-wise layout described on this page, with comparison tables, 17 diagrams, an exam corner and a revision table for every unit. You place the order on WhatsApp and the book is posted to your address.

What is the passing mark for MCA-255?

MCA-255 is marked out of 100: 40 internal and 60 end-term. The MCA scheme of examination states pass marks as 40 out of 100 for every paper. End-term minimums and re-appear rules are not set in the syllabus; the scheme says the programme is governed by GGSIPU Ordinance 11, so check that ordinance on ipu.ac.in for those details.

How is the MCA-255 end-term paper set?

Question 1 is compulsory, covers the whole MCA-255 syllabus and carries 12 marks of objective or short-answer parts. Each of the four units then has two questions, and you attempt one from each, at 12 marks apiece including subparts. That totals 60 marks. Examiners must map every question to the course outcomes using Bloom's taxonomy.

What if fewer than 20 students choose MCA-255 in my college?

The MCA scheme says an elective needs at least 20 students for classes to run. With fewer, MCA-255 may still be offered, but no classes are held and students complete it through an approved MOOC on SWAYAM or a similar platform, with prior approval. You still sit the institution's examinations to earn the 3 credits.

Which MCA-255 unit is the biggest, and where are the practicals?

Unit 3, Designing e-Content, is the largest block in the MCA-255 notes: 18 pages and 9 sections, including the two-hour module design practical. The other two practicals sit in Unit 2, where you install and run a Moodle course, and Unit 4, where you complete a two-week Coursera course. Each practical comes with a ready record format to follow.
