BED 150 Teaching of Biology Notes unit-wise: 29 topics and 62 exam questions across 4 units

These BED 150 Teaching of Biology IPU notes run from page 3 to page 65, each unit ending with a revision table and exam questions. Other papers sit under GGSIPU B.Ed notes.

BED 150 Unit 1: Biology in School Curriculum

Pages 3 to 15, seven topics. Biology is read as a body of knowledge, a process of inquiry and a way of thinking, then its need, scope and social issues such as organ donation. Aims are separated from objectives with Bloom's domains and Mager's method.

Later topics link Biology with eleven subjects, explain the four curriculum qualities, give a 100-mark textbook score card, and weigh NCF-2005 against NEP-2020. Questions: 7 long, 8 short.

BED 150 Unit 2: Planning, Designing and Transaction

Pages 16 to 34, eight topics. Micro teaching covers the 36-minute Indian cycle and ten skills with Biology examples. Planning compares Herbartian, RCEM, 5E and ICON designs, with a 5E lesson on photosynthesis and Novak's concept map of the cell.

Nine teaching methods each get a Biology example, merits and limits, up to Suchman's four inquiry levels. Then come ICT material, excursions, lab design and the seven herbarium steps. Questions: 8 long, 8 short.

BED 150 Unit 4: Professional Development of a Biology Teacher

Pages 52 to 65, seven topics. Qualities fall into seven groups and competencies into eleven, including Shulman's PCK and TPACK. Growth is mapped at individual, school and government level (NISHTHA, SCERT, NEP-2020's 50 hours of CPD), then SWAYAM and the 5 R's of OER.

Field visits use Delhi examples such as Yamuna Biodiversity Park. Action research runs in seven steps on poor diagrams, followed by reflection (Schön, Gibbs) and a ten-step NTeQ lesson on dengue. Questions: 7 long, 8 short.

Improvised low-cost apparatus in Biology teaching: excerpt from page 26 of the BED 150 notes

Excerpt from page 26

Improvisation and low-cost equipment

Improvisation means making substitutes for costly apparatus from cheap, locally available or waste materials. It matters most in Indian schools that run on small budgets, where a Biology teacher may have one microscope for a whole class and no proper lung model or potometer. A teacher who can improvise still shows every process the syllabus asks for.

Merits of improvisation

  • Low cost, and the material is easy to find.
  • It builds creativity and resourcefulness in both teachers and students.
  • Students understand the principle behind the apparatus because they build it.
  • Reusing waste raises environmental awareness.
  • Students can repeat the activity at home.

Do you know?

The Foldscope is a paper microscope developed at Stanford University by Manu Prakash. It costs less than a dollar, magnifies about 140 times and is used in many Indian schools under DBT programmes.

ICT-based teaching learning material (start of the next section)

The same page then moves to digital material: PPTs and animations for mitosis, meiosis, the heartbeat and the nerve impulse; videos from DIKSHA, ePathshala, NROER and Swayam Prabha for experiments and ecosystem documentaries; and simulations from PhET, OLabs and Amrita Vlab for virtual dissection, enzyme activity and natural selection.

How to write BED 150 answers: behavioural objectives, Before-During-After plans and Delhi field examples

Teaching of Biology answers are judged on structure and Biology examples, not length. The notes print four exam tips, each fixing one answer type.

Objectives. Write at least one objective in each of Bloom's domains, cognitive, affective and psychomotor, with action verbs such as label or differentiate. For Mager, show all three parts, as in the page 8 line: "Given a compound microscope (condition), the student will focus a slide (performance) within 2 minutes (criterion)."

Planning. For an excursion, science club or exhibition, write three headed stages, Before, During and After, with points under each; the page 28 tip says this earns full marks. The same layout fits the micro teaching and action research cycles.

Bloom levels. Keep the 1956 list (ending synthesis, evaluation) apart from the 2001 revision (ending evaluate, create), and add one Biology question per level.

Field visits. The page 58 tip asks for Delhi examples: Yamuna Biodiversity Park, the National Zoological Park or Lodhi Garden.

A common slip is writing aims where the question asks for objectives; the page 7 table separates them. Practise this format on GGSIPU B.Ed important questions.

  4. Unit 4: Explain the NTeQ model with a lesson plan for secondary level. Pointer: five components, then ten steps on dengue (pages 62 to 63).

More practice sits in the BED 150 important questions.

BED 150 and the GGSIPU B.Ed Sem 2 papers it connects to

BED 150 has no lab paper, and every Semester 2 code is listed in the GGSIPU B.Ed syllabus.

  • Unit 3 blueprints and diagnostic tests build on BED 106 Assessment of Learning.
  • Unit 2's constructivist 5E plan draws on BED 102 Learning and Teaching.
  • Unit 1's NCF and NEP analysis links to BED 104 Contemporary Perspectives in Education.
  • Excursions and Unit 4 field visits fit BED 108 Experiential Learning.
  • Micro teaching and lesson plans prepare you for BED 154 PSE-II; reflection supports BED 152 Reading and Reflecting on Texts.

BED 150 Biology pedagogy notes FAQs

How do I get the full BED 150 notes?

Message Unnati Educations on WhatsApp at 9899436384 and ask for the BED 150 Teaching of Biology notes. The full notes come as a printed book only; they are not available as a PDF. Delivery takes at most 5 to 7 days, depending on your location.

How many marks is BED 150 and what is the passing mark?

BED 150 is marked out of 100: 75 for the theory exam, 15 for practical assignments or field engagement, and 10 for minors. The B.Ed scheme of examination states pass marks as 40%, which is 40 out of 100 in this course. For end-term minimums and re-appear rules, read GGSIPU Ordinance 11 on ipu.ac.in, since the B.Ed curriculum PDF does not print them.

What is the NTeQ model in BED 150 Unit 4?

NTeQ stands for iNtegrating Technology for inQuiry, a problem-based model by Gary Morrison and Deborah Lowther (2002). The BED 150 notes explain its five components (teacher, student, computer, lesson and environment) and a ten-step lesson on dengue, where students enter local case and rainfall data in a spreadsheet and graph it. It is on pages 62 and 63.

Which BED 150 unit is the longest in the notes?

Unit 2, Planning, Designing and Transaction, runs from page 16 to page 34, so it is 19 pages of the 65. It has eight topics, including nine teaching methods with Biology examples, a 5E lesson plan on photosynthesis, a concept map of the cell and the seven herbarium steps. Its 16 exam questions tie with Unit 3.

Are the BED 150 exam questions in the notes solved?

No. Each BED 150 unit ends with 7 or 8 long-answer and 8 short-answer exam questions listed without model answers, 62 in total. Every question matches a topic in that unit, so you answer from its tables, flows and Biology examples. The quick revision table just before the questions lists the names and dates to recall.

Do the BED 150 notes help with the practical assignment?

Partly. The syllabus asks for any one of ten field engagement tasks, and the notes have no separate guide for them. Several tasks still have matching content: an achievement test blueprint on pages 45 to 47, low-cost improvised apparatus on page 26, concept maps on pages 20 and 21, and lesson plans on pages 18 to 20.
