The MAM 061 Solved Guess Paper is a 27-page PDF of 24 fully answered questions for IGNOU's MAM-061 Commodity Trading, Futures and Options, written for the December 2026 term-end exam. Every answer comes from the IGNOU course book, in plain English, with the book's own headings, numbered points and Indian examples from MCX, NCDEX and SEBI.

MAM-061 is taught in the IGNOU Master of Business Administration (Agribusiness Management) (MBAABM), run by the School of Agriculture. Because the course is new, only two term-end papers exist so far, and this file is built on both of them rather than on guesswork.

1. What the MAM 061 Solved Guess Paper Covers

It covers 24 likely questions from all four MAM-061 blocks, and 14 of them are tagged HIGH priority for December 2026. Block 1 explains how commodity markets work, who trades in them and the risks they carry. Block 2 is the numbers-heavy block on forwards, futures, margin, clearinghouses and options.

Block 3 moves to regulation, ethics and market abuse such as insider trading and spoofing. Block 4 closes the course with fundamental analysis, technical analysis and seasonal forecasting, the block the file's rules page tells you never to skip.

We read the December 2025 and June 2026 papers question by question, matched each one to its unit, and listed the sub-topics not yet asked. It is the same method behind every IGNOU Solved Guess Paper we publish: papers first, then the book, then answers sized for a 20-mark question.

2. MAM 061 Sample Questions with Solutions

Below are 5 of the 24 answers exactly as the file presents them, one from each major area of the MAM-061 syllabus. Read them the way an examiner would: is the definition first, do the points carry the book's headings, and does the answer end cleanly? The other 19 answers follow the same shape.

Sample 1 of 5File Q1Block 1, Unit 120 marksHIGH priority, last set December 2025

Commodity market structure and key players

Question: Discuss the structure and features of commodity market. Explain the types of key players in commodity markets.

The structure of commodity markets can be divided into two main types: the spot market and the futures market.

Commodities are basic goods like crude oil, gold, wheat and cotton. Commodity markets help in finding fair prices and help producers, consumers and investors to manage risk.

Two types of commodity markets

  1. Spot market: goods are bought and sold for immediate delivery, and the price shows current supply and demand. Example: a flour mill buys wheat for today's production.
  2. Futures market: contracts to buy or sell at a fixed price on a future date, regulated by exchanges and used for hedging and speculation. Example: a coffee company buys coffee futures to lock its future cost.

Key players in commodity markets

  1. Producers: farmers, miners and oil companies sell futures to lock prices. Example: a wheat farmer sells wheat futures before harvest.
  2. Consumers: airlines and food makers buy futures to keep input costs stable, as when an airline buys jet fuel futures.
  3. Speculators: they neither use nor produce the commodity and trade only for profit; they add liquidity but can raise volatility.
  4. Hedgers: producers or consumers who use futures to reduce price risk, such as a sugar mill buying sugar futures.
  5. Arbitrageurs: they buy gold in London and sell in New York, earning from price gaps and keeping markets aligned.

Conclusion: the market has two parts, spot and futures, and five key players together create liquidity, stable prices and a fair market.

Sample 2 of 5File Q8Block 2, Unit 520 marksHIGH priority, not set yet (gap topic)

Margin, its types and margin calls

Question: What is margin in commodity trading? Explain the types of margin. What is a margin call and how is it handled?

Margin is a "good faith" deposit that acts as collateral for holding open positions in futures markets.

It keeps the market stable because traders cannot easily default when prices move against them. With a small margin a trader controls a big position, which magnifies both gains and losses.

Leverage from a 10% margin on an MCX crude oil contract
ItemValue
Contract value₹10,00,000
Margin requirement (10%)₹1,00,000
Leverage achieved10x
Price rises 5%₹50,000 profit, a 50% return on margin
Price falls 5%₹50,000 loss, a 50% loss on margin

Types of margin

  1. Initial margin: the upfront amount to open a position, set by the volatility and liquidity of the commodity. Example: ₹40,000 for a ₹5,00,000 gold position on MCX.
  2. Maintenance margin: the minimum balance to keep the position open, for example ₹30,000 on the same gold position.

Worked example, NCDEX soybean futures: contract value ₹3,00,000; initial margin (10%) ₹30,000; maintenance margin ₹25,000. After a price drop the balance is ₹24,000, below ₹25,000, so a margin call is issued. Margin call = ₹30,000 − ₹24,000 = ₹6,000.

A trader meets the call by adding funds or reducing position size; if the call is not met, the broker may liquidate the position.

Conclusion: initial margin opens a position, maintenance margin keeps it open, and a margin call restores the balance to the initial level.

ITM, ATM and OTM options, and the Option Greeks

Question: Explain In-the-Money (ITM), At-the-Money (ATM) and Out-of-the-Money (OTM) options with examples. Discuss the Option Greeks: Delta, Gamma, Theta and Vega.

An option is ITM when exercising it would result in a positive cash flow.
  1. In-the-money (ITM): for a call, spot is above strike; for a put, spot is below strike. ITM options have intrinsic value.
  2. At-the-money (ATM): spot equals strike, so there is no intrinsic value, only time value.
  3. Out-of-the-money (OTM): exercising gives no positive cash flow; a call has spot below strike, a put has spot above strike.
Moneyness of a call option with a ₹58,000 strike
Spot price (₹)ClassificationWhy
60,000In-the-moneySpot is ₹2,000 above strike
58,000At-the-moneySpot equals strike
56,000Out-of-the-moneySpot is ₹2,000 below strike

Option Greeks

The Greeks show how an option's price reacts to market changes.

  1. Delta: change in option price for a ₹1 move in the underlying. A delta of 0.5 moves the option ₹0.50; calls are positive, puts negative.
  2. Gamma: the rate of change of delta, highest for ATM options.
  3. Theta: time decay, highest for ATM options and faster near expiry.
  4. Vega: sensitivity to implied volatility; higher volatility raises the option price.

Conclusion: moneyness depends on spot against strike, and the four Greeks help traders measure and manage option risk.

Sample 4 of 5File Q15Block 3, Unit 920 marksHIGH priority, last set December 2025

Trading ethics, principles and unethical practices

Question: What is meant by trading ethics? Discuss the principles of ethics and also unethical practices in commodity trading.

Trading ethics refer to the moral guidelines that govern behaviour in financial and commodity markets.

They make sure participants act with fairness, integrity and transparency. In commodity markets, price changes touch producers, consumers and middlemen alike, so ethics are vital.

Key principles of trading ethics

  1. Fairness: no undue advantage and equal access to information; it rules out insider trading, front-running and manipulation.
  2. Transparency: correct, timely information, such as producers disclosing output estimates and exchanges publishing real-time data.
  3. Accountability: traders own their actions and regulators penalise wrong behaviour, as SEBI does with brokers who break fair-trading rules.
  4. Sustainability: in agriculture, hoarding and manipulation can cause food insecurity, so ethics keep markets healthy long term.

Unethical practices

  1. Insider trading: trading futures after learning of a secret import policy change.
  2. Market manipulation: spreading false rumours of crop failure to move prices.
  3. Front-running: a broker trades for himself before placing client orders.
  4. Conflict of interest: recommending a commodity while secretly holding a stake in its producer.

Conclusion: trading ethics rest on four principles, and insider trading, manipulation, front-running and hidden conflicts all damage market trust.

Sample 5 of 5File Q20Block 4, Unit 1220 marksHIGH priority, last set December 2025

Fundamental analysis and economic indicators

Question: Define fundamental analysis. Discuss its importance and economic indicators for commodity markets.

Fundamental analysis provides a robust framework for understanding the intrinsic value of commodities.

It studies the real causes behind price moves: supply and demand, economic data, geopolitics and industry factors. Technical analysis looks at past prices; fundamental analysis looks at the reasons.

Importance: it explains supply and demand (bad weather cuts wheat supply and lifts prices), links prices to economic health, supports hedging, and suits long-term investment strategies.

Ten economic indicators from the book

  1. GDP: strong growth raises demand for oil, metals and farm goods.
  2. Inflation: gold and silver act as inflation hedges.
  3. Interest rates: low rates boost commodity investment; high rates make holding gold costly.
  4. Employment data: US unemployment of 14.7% in April 2020 cut oil demand.
  5. Exchange rates: a strong US dollar makes commodities costlier and lowers demand.
  6. Industrial production index: high factory output lifts steel, copper and energy demand.
  7. PMI: above 50 signals expansion, below 50 contraction.
  8. Trade balance: a surplus shows exports, a deficit shows import dependence.
  9. Crude oil inventories: rising stocks mean oversupply and lower prices.
  10. Weather and climate data: droughts and floods cut crops and shift energy demand.

Conclusion: fundamental analysis finds a commodity's intrinsic value through supply-demand study, economic links and ten indicators.

Those five cover Units 1, 5, 7, 9 and 12. The remaining 19 answers include the numericals on forward pricing and option profit, the spoofing and pump and dump short notes, and the chart page for technical analysis.

3. MAM 061 Important Questions from the Last Two Papers

Across December 2025 and June 2026, examiners set questions from 18 different topic areas, and not one topic appeared in both papers. Each examiner took a fresh sub-topic from the same units, so Units 1, 3, 4, 9 and 12 each came back in June 2026 through a new angle.

That is why the 10 topic areas still untouched are the strongest Commodity Trading, Futures and Options important questions for December 2026. Margin, the CCP model, option Greeks, spoofing and technical analysis sit in units the examiners clearly like, yet none has been asked.

You can read both papers yourself on our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper page. The grid below shows where each topic sat and the file question that answers it.

Eight days is enough for all 24 MAM-061 answers at three a day, if you begin with the HIGH questions from Block 2. Give it about two hours a day and write at least one answer by hand each day instead of only reading.

  1. Day 1: Q6, Q7 and Q8: forwards, futures pricing and margin. Work the forward price and the margin call sums by hand.
  2. Day 2: Q9, Q11 and Q12: clearinghouses, options and the Greeks. Rebuild the ITM, ATM and OTM table from memory.
  3. Day 3: Q1, Q2 and Q15: market structure, evolution in India and the four principles of trading ethics.
  4. Day 4: Q16, Q18 and Q20: code of conduct, spoofing and pump and dump, and the ten economic indicators.
  5. Day 5: Q21, Q23 and Q5: fundamental analysis tools, the four chart types, and risk with hedging.
  6. Day 6: Q3, Q4 and Q10: speculators, diversification, clearing, trading technology and cybersecurity.
  7. Day 7: Q14, Q17 and Q19: international regulators, insider trading and market surveillance.

9. MAM 061 Commodity Trading, Futures and Options FAQs

Quick answers to what MBAABM learners ask most before ordering the MAM-061 file.

Is the MAM 061 guess paper based on real IGNOU question papers?

Yes. MAM-061 is a new course, so only two term-end papers exist so far: December 2025 and June 2026. We analysed both question by question, matched every question to its unit in the IGNOU book, and listed the sub-topics not asked yet. The 24 answers in the file come from that analysis, with 14 tagged HIGH priority and one kept as a backup topic.

How many questions are in the MAM 061 Solved Guess Paper?

The file has 24 fully answered questions across all 4 blocks and 14 units. Twenty-one are full 20-mark questions and three are split into two 10-mark parts. This page shows 5 sample answers so you can judge the quality, and the full 27-page PDF includes all 24, among them the 19 answers that are not shown here.

Which MAM 061 topics are most important for December 2026?

Start with the gap topics in units that have already been examined: margin and margin calls, the CCP model, option Greeks, spoofing and pump and dump, and technical analysis charts. None of these has been set yet, while their neighbouring sub-topics have. After those, revise forward and futures pricing, trading ethics, code of conduct and fundamental analysis tools, which fill the other HIGH slots.

Does the MAM 061 guess paper include numerical questions?

Yes. MAM-061 questions often expect a short worked example, and the file shows the formula and every step. You will find the forward price as spot price plus cost of carry, a margin call on NCDEX soybean futures, call and put option profit, intrinsic value, and a seasonal price forecast for wheat. Writing these out by hand once is the fastest way to secure the marks.

How long should a 20-mark answer be in MAM 061?

The MAM-061 paper does not print a word limit, so the file uses about 450 words for a full 20-mark answer and about 250 words for each 10-mark part. That is enough for a definition, the book's headings, numbered points, one Indian example and a short conclusion. Longer answers rarely earn more, while missing headings and a missing conclusion lose marks quickly.

Is the MAM 061 guess paper enough to pass the exam?

For most learners it covers what the exam asks, because the 24 answers span every unit and only eight questions are set, of which you answer five. It is still a revision tool, not a replacement for the course book. Read each unit once from the IGNOU block, then learn the answers here, and you will be ready for whichever angle the examiner picks.

How do I receive the MAM 061 guess paper after payment?

Send a WhatsApp message to 9899436384 with the course code MAM-061. Our team replies with the price and payment details, and once payment is confirmed the PDF is sent on the same chat, usually within an hour during working time. The file opens on any phone or laptop and prints cleanly on A4, so you can keep a paper copy for exam week.

Is Unnati Educations linked to IGNOU for MAM 061?

No. Unnati Educations is an independent study-support provider based in Vikaspuri, Delhi, and is not affiliated with IGNOU. The MAM-061 answers are written by our own team from the official IGNOU course material and past papers. Always treat the IGNOU blocks on eGyanKosh and the official exam notices as your final reference, especially for dates and the paper pattern.

10. Who Prepared the MAM 061 Solved Guess Paper

The answers were written by Prateek Talwar and reviewed by Sheetal Kirola at Unnati Educations.

is the founder of Unnati Educations and a Company Secretary, which helps most in Block 3, where SEBI rules, insider trading regulations and codes of conduct need exact wording in simple English. Sheetal Kirola, Academic Head (M.Ed.), checked each MAM-061 answer against the IGNOU blocks for headings, definitions, book counts and order of points.
