MMPH 005 Solved Guess Paper 2026 gives you 12 exam-style questions with complete, book-based answers for IGNOU's Organisational Development and Change course, the human resource paper studied in the MBA, MBAHM and PGDIHRM programmes. We built it by laying the last four term-end papers side by side and marking every topic that keeps coming back.

That exercise threw up a clear pattern. Organisational diagnosis and mergers and acquisitions appeared in all four papers we analysed. Change agent skills and the stages of OD turned up in three. Skip any of these and you are giving away 20 marks before you have even read the question paper properly.

1. What the MMPH 005 Solved Guess Paper Covers

The file holds 12 twenty-mark questions spread across all four blocks of MMPH 005, and each one is answered in roughly 450 words with a definition, numbered points and a conclusion.

Block 1 gets four questions because it carries the theory examiners love: the meaning of change, types and triggers, and how organisational culture shapes the whole process. Block 2 gets three, on OD stages, interventions and diagnosis. Block 3 gets five, from mergers and turnaround to BPR, TQM, group-based change and evaluation. Block 4 closes with the change agent.

Every answer starts the way examiners expect, with the book's definition and the scholar behind it, whether that is Beckhard, Bennis, Schein, Udai Pareek or Khandwalla. The points then follow the exact list counts the IGNOU book uses, so a reader marking your script finds four competencies where the book says four.

If you are preparing more than one paper this term, the same method runs through our wider range of IGNOU Solved Guess Paper files, so switching between courses does not mean learning a new format each time.

2. MMPH 005 Sample Questions with Solutions

Below are five of the 12 answers, shown in full, so you can check the depth and language before you order. Each label tells you which question it is in the guess paper, the block it comes from and its priority.

Sample 1 of 5Guess paper Q1Block 4, Unit 1320 marksHIGH priority, asked in 3 of 4 papers

The change agent: roles, skills and competencies

Question: Who is a change agent? Discuss the skills and competencies required for a change agent.

Meaning: A change agent is the person or body that starts, drives and sustains change in an organisation. The agent may sit inside the organisation or come from outside, and usually plays several roles at once. The book ties this to competency, which it describes as an underlying characteristic that produces effective or superior performance.

Roles of a change agent

  1. External change agent: regulators, alliances and bureaucrats who push the firm towards socially and environmentally viable strategies.
  2. Internal consultant: scans external drivers of change and builds a sense of urgency inside.
  3. Internal support to an external consultant: an Internal Resource Person helps an outside consultant implement the plan.
  4. Community activist: intellectuals and scientists who take up social causes and trigger change.
  5. Leader: shares a vision, builds trust, questions the status quo and takes calculated risks.
  6. Organisational management: frames policy, legitimises change and institutionalises it with visible top-level support.

Skills required

  1. Sensing the business environment early, including market, technology and political signals.
  2. Moving the organisation from vertical hierarchy to horizontal, team-based working.
  3. Building change leadership at every level, not only at the top.
  4. Acting as a catalyst on a shorter time frame while keeping information flowing.

Competencies

  1. Cognitive: analytical and conceptual thinking to break problems down and see the bigger picture.
  2. Functional or technical: command over job-related knowledge and the will to share it.
  3. Personal effectiveness: self-control, attitudes and values that hold up under stress.
  4. Inter-personal: the ability to relate to people and carry them through change.

Conclusion: No single agent has every skill, which is why change agents work alongside other agents and consultants. The four competency clusters, backed by consulting and problem-solving ability, are what let an agent manage change well.

Sample 2 of 5Guess paper Q5Block 2, Unit 520 marksHIGH priority, asked in 3 of 4 papers

Organisational Development: concept, objectives, stages and essentials

Question: Explain the concept and objectives of Organisational Development (OD). Describe the stages of OD and the essentials for its success.

Meaning: Warren Bennis described OD as a complex educational strategy that changes the beliefs, attitudes, values and structure of organisations so they can adapt to new technologies, markets and the pace of change itself. It is planned, organisation-wide and managed from the top, using behavioural science.

Definitions and objectives

  1. Beckhard: a planned, organisation-wide effort, managed from the top, to raise effectiveness and health through planned interventions.
  2. Udai Pareek: a planned effort by process specialists to build diagnostic skills, coping capability, linkage strategies and a culture of mutuality.
  3. Cummings and Huse: a system-wide use of behavioural science to develop strategies, structures and processes.

Stages of OD (six-step model)

  1. Initiation: sensing the need, inviting a consultant, checking readiness and agreeing the contract.
  2. Diagnosis: assessing how the organisation works to find sources of problems.
  3. Planning and design of interventions, only after the overall strategy is clear.
  4. Carrying out the plan through the chosen interventions.
  5. Evaluating results against what was planned.
  6. Termination or moving to the next phase.

Essentials for success

  1. Active top-management support and involvement of key people.
  2. Belief in behavioural science and willingness to do action research.
  3. An OCTAPACE climate: openness, confrontation, trust, authenticity, pro-action, autonomy, collaboration and experimentation (Udai Pareek, 2002).
  4. Internal resource persons and continuity of effort even when top management changes.

Conclusion: OD is a long-term effort. It works when leaders stay committed, the climate is OCTAPACE, diagnosis is scientific and interventions continue after the first round.

Sample 3 of 5Guess paper Q7Block 2, Unit 720 marksHIGH priority, asked in all 4 papers

Organisational diagnosis: purpose, perspectives and methods

Question: What is organisational diagnosis? Explain the purpose, perspectives and methods of organisational analysis, and discuss the questionnaire as a diagnostic tool.

Meaning: Diagnosis is the process of assessing how an organisation or department functions in order to find the sources of problems and areas for improvement. A doctor reads symptoms and runs tests; an OD specialist does the same with an organisation. Organisational analysis is the first step.

Purpose of organisational analysis

  1. Understanding how organisations work, for teaching or research.
  2. Finding strengths and weak spots before growth, diversification or expansion.
  3. Toning up administration and introducing new systems to improve overall health.
  4. Tracing a problem to the sick subsystem and correcting it.

Perspectives and methods

  1. Professional management perspective: output, cost reduction and profits.
  2. OD or behavioural science perspective: attitudes, norms, values and human processes.
  3. Methods: questionnaires, interviews, observation, records and hard data, task forces, problem-solving workshops, seminars and critical incidents.

Questionnaire as a diagnostic tool

  1. It is the most widely used method in India because insiders can run it easily.
  2. Standardised versions exist, and custom ones can be built for each organisation.
  3. It can measure organisational health, culture and motivational climate.
  4. The area of concern should first be identified through interviews, complaints or symptoms.

Conclusion: Diagnosis tells the organisation where it stands. Questionnaires, interviews, workshops of 20 to 30 people using SWOT or force field analysis, and task forces are the usual tools, with the questionnaire most popular for its ease and standardisation.

Sample 4 of 5Guess paper Q8Block 3, Unit 820 marksHIGH priority, asked in all 4 papers

Mergers and acquisitions: purpose, reasons, agencies and alternatives

Question: Explain the purpose and reasons of Merger and Acquisition. Discuss the role of different agencies and the alternatives to mergers and acquisitions.

Meaning: A merger is two companies becoming one. An acquisition is one company, the buyer, purchasing the assets or shares of the seller. A takeover, where cash changes hands for shares, can be by consent or hostile. Mergers may be horizontal, vertical, conglomerate or triangular.

Purpose of M&A

  1. Securing supplies of raw material and purchase economies.
  2. Revamping production for economies of scale and better technology.
  3. Expanding markets, cutting competition and widening the product range.
  4. Financial strength through liquidity, surplus asset disposal and tax benefits.
  5. General gains such as image, managerial talent and support for the firm's own plans.

Reasons for M&A

  1. Strategic motive, with access to intellectual capital as a main driver.
  2. Easy financing, as buyers use stock as currency and third-party funds are available.
  3. Industry trends, technology, competition and the need for global reach.
  4. It is cheaper to buy brand loyalty and complete product lines than to build them.

Role of agencies

  1. Advisers: chartered accountants assess financial strength, merchant bankers check soundness and SEBI compliance, and stock brokers and legal consultants handle the deal and the law.
  2. Financial institutions and banks such as IDBI, LIC, UTI and GIC approve deals to protect their interest, while BIFR arranges mergers of viable units.

Alternatives to M&A

  1. Joint ventures, as a partnership or co-owned company.
  2. Franchising, licensing, strategic alliances and distributorships, which reach similar goals with a different degree of control.

Conclusion: M&A deals are strategic combinations backed by advisers and institutions, and firms that want less control can reach the same ends through the alternatives above.

Sample 5 of 5Guess paper Q10Block 3, Unit 1020 marksHIGH priority, asked in 2 of 4 papers

BPR and TQM as tools for process-based change

Question: Describe the concept of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Total Quality Management (TQM) as tools for bringing process-based change in organisations.

Meaning: A process is an ordered set of work activities with a clear start, end, inputs and outputs. BPR is the redesign of business processes, and the systems and structures around them, for a dramatic jump in performance. Change on this spectrum runs from automation and rationalisation to re-engineering and a full paradigm shift.

Business Process Reengineering

  1. A radical redesign that removes repetitive, paper-heavy and bureaucratic tasks.
  2. It works on five components: strategy, process, technology, organisation and culture.
  3. Being radical, it carries high risk and high return.
  4. It is usually driven by poor financial results, competition, falling market share or new opportunities.

Total Quality Management

  1. A customer-centred philosophy where processes are done right the first time.
  2. Soft elements are leadership, employee involvement, training and customer focus; hard elements are manufacturing systems, statistical process control and a zero-defect mindset (Rahman, 2004).
  3. The objective is to do the right things, right the first time, every time.

Key principles of TQM

  1. Management commitment through plan, deploy, check, review and act.
  2. Empowered, trained and recognised process owners.
  3. Fact-based decisions using statistical process control.
  4. Continuous improvement, customer focus and supplier partnership.

Conclusion: BPR brings sudden, radical change to five components, while TQM brings steady, customer-led improvement. Used together, they reinvent processes and keep the firm ahead of competitors.

Unit 14 is the one gap worth knowing about. It did not produce a separate question in the four papers we studied, so the file does not give it a full answer. Read it once from your MMPH 005 Study Material so a surprise question does not catch you cold.

4. MMPH 005 Important Questions by Frequency

Organisational diagnosis and mergers and acquisitions are the two MMPH 005 important questions that appeared in all four papers analysed. The table shows how often each major topic repeated and which question in the file answers it.

Priority is not a simple count. It weighs how often a topic repeats, how recently it appeared and how much weight the book gives it, which is why culture stays HIGH after one appearance while turnaround sits at MEDIUM.

5. MMPH 005 Exam Pattern and Answer-Writing Plan

The MMPH 005 term-end exam runs for 3 hours, carries 100 marks with 70% weightage, and asks you to attempt any five questions of equal marks. That works out to 20 marks, and about 35 minutes, per answer.

These details come from the official IGNOU MMPH 005 December 2023 question paper. Glance at the latest paper on the IGNOU website before exam day in case the instructions change. Some questions come in two parts, such as concept plus application, so answer both parts or you lose half the marks.

A simple plan works best. Pick your five questions in the first five minutes, spend around 30 to 35 minutes on each, and keep ten minutes to read through. Aim for about 450 words per full answer, or about 250 words for each half of a two-part question.

Structure matters more than length here. Open with a definition and the scholar's name, use sub-headings, keep the book's list counts, add one short example, and close with a line of your own view. That is the exact shape every answer in the file follows.

6. MMPH 005 Practical File and Guess Paper Index

MMPH 005 has no practical file or lab component; it is a theory course assessed through an assignment (TMA) and a written term-end exam. So instead of a practical index, here is a page-by-page index of the guess paper file.

7. Who Should Buy the MMPH 005 Solved Guess Paper

This file is for any IGNOU learner whose programme includes MMPH 005: IGNOU MBA, MBA Online (MBAOL), MBA in Human Resource Management (MBAHM) and the PGDIHRM diploma.

It suits working professionals most of all. If you manage a team by day and study at night, you do not have time to read 14 units twice. A tight set of 12 answers, ranked by how often each topic returns, lets you cover the paper in a few focused evenings.

The MMPH 005 paper is three hours long, carries 100 marks and has 70% weightage in your final result. You attempt any five questions, and all carry equal marks, so each is worth 20. Plan roughly 450 words and 30 to 35 minutes per answer, and leave about ten minutes at the end to review what you have written.

Does MMPH 005 have a practical file or project component?

No. MMPH 005 Organisational Development and Change is a theory course with no practical file or lab work. You are assessed through one tutor-marked assignment and a written term-end exam. That is why the guess paper focuses fully on long, structured theory answers, with definitions, scholars' names and numbered points that match the IGNOU book.

Is the MMPH 005 solved guess paper written from the IGNOU book?

Yes. Every answer in the MMPH 005 guess paper is written from the IGNOU course material, keeping the book's definitions, author names and list counts, such as OCTAPACE from Udai Pareek and the six-step OD model. The language is kept simple so you can remember it, and nothing outside the four blocks is added to the answers.
