BZYCT 135 Solved Guess Paper 2026 is a 12 question, 12 page answer file written for the Physiology and Biochemistry term-end paper of the B.Sc. General programme.
Nothing in it was chosen from the syllabus index. Every question came out of the actual BZYCT-135 papers IGNOU has set, and the answers are written the way this examiner marks: textbook definition first, the pathway named with its enzymes and site, the book's own step counts kept exactly, and a closing line that ties the two halves together.
The honest problem with this course is volume. Four blocks take you from nutrition and digestion all the way to protein metabolism, and a student who starts revising a fortnight before the exam simply cannot finish it. That is the gap this file fills. If you want to see what else is available for your other Zoology papers first, the IGNOU Solved Guess Paper section lists every course code currently covered.

What the BZYCT 135 Solved Guess Paper 2026 Covers in Physiology and Biochemistry
The BZYCT-135 file holds 12 solved questions across 12 pages: the compulsory Question 1 worked out in full, plus 11 ten mark answers covering physiology, enzymes and metabolism from all four blocks.
The count is matched to the paper. You attempt five questions in BZYCT-135, one compulsory and any four from six. Eleven prepared ten mark answers against a requirement of four gives you a very wide margin, which matters in this subject because the examiner can swap the format of a ten mark question without warning.
That format switching is worth understanding before you revise. A single ten mark slot in Physiology and Biochemistry may arrive as one descriptive answer, as two short notes at five marks each, as four differences at two and a half marks each, or as two sub parts split five and five. The file writes each question in the exact format it has historically been asked in, so you are not converting a paragraph into a table under exam pressure.
Each answer opens with a header strip showing its block, its section, the sessions it last appeared in and its priority band. That strip is the reason the shortlist is defensible. You are not being told that the urea cycle matters, you are being shown the three sessions it has already come in.
5 Sample Questions with Answers from the BZYCT 135 Guess Paper
These five answers are reproduced in full from the file. They cover all four blocks and every answer format the paper uses, and the remaining 7 questions are written to the same standard.
Look at how the pathway answers are laid out. Each step carries its enzyme and, where the book gives one, its location. Marks in BZYCT-135 Physiology and Biochemistry are awarded step by step, so an answer that describes the idea without naming the enzymes leaves half the marks on the table.
Compulsory Question 1: Fill in the blanks and Match the following
Question: (a) Fill in the blanks with suitable words (5 × 1 = 5). (b) Match the following (5 × 1 = 5).
(a) Fill in the blanks, with answers
- The enzyme ______ hydrolyses ester bonds in fats: Lipase
- ______ is the principal site of urea formation: Liver
- The functional unit of muscle fibre is the ______: Sarcomere
- Glucose is irreversibly phosphorylated to glucose-6-phosphate by ______: Hexokinase
- Synthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources is known as ______: Gluconeogenesis
(b) Match the following, with answers
| Column A | Column B, correct match |
|---|---|
| Tocopherol (Vitamin E) | Antioxidant |
| Glucagon | Raises blood glucose level |
| Acetylcholine | Neurotransmitter |
| Hypophysis | Pituitary gland |
| β-oxidation | Mitochondria |
These ten marks are the easiest on the paper and the most commonly thrown away. They are pure recall of enzyme names, sites and one line definitions, and the file carries a much longer bank of them than the ten shown here.
Differences between four pairs
Question: Write the differences between the following pairs: (i) Arteries and Veins (ii) Cardiac and Skeletal muscle (iii) Glycogenesis and Glycogenolysis (iv) Asexual and Sexual reproduction.
| Arteries | Veins |
|---|---|
| Thick walls with heavy, strong layers of elastic fibres and smooth muscle. | Much thinner walls than arteries. |
| Carry blood away from the heart at high pressure. | Return blood to the heart at low pressure and can hold more blood. |
| Their smallest units are capillaries, a single cell thick. | Contain smooth muscle and fibres and bear valves that prevent backflow. |
| Cardiac muscle | Skeletal muscle |
|---|---|
| Muscle of the heart, with striations present but not aligned. | Attached to bones and shows regular, aligned striations. |
| Cells are branched and mononucleated, a few carrying two or more nuclei. | Cells are long and multinucleated. |
| Joined by intercalated discs, involuntary, rich in mitochondria and myoglobin, so aerobic. | Voluntary, controlled through the spinal and cranial nerves. |
| Glycogenesis | Glycogenolysis |
|---|---|
| Synthesis of glycogen from glucose. | Breakdown of glycogen to glucose-1-phosphate (90 per cent) and glucose (10 per cent). |
| Key enzyme is glycogen synthase, working with a glycogenin primer and the branching enzyme. | Key enzyme is glycogen phosphorylase, working with the debranching enzyme. |
| Requires 2 ATP per glucose added and forms α-1,4 and α-1,6 bonds. | Phosphorolytic cleavage of α-1,4 bonds, with no ATP needed. |
| Asexual reproduction | Sexual reproduction |
|---|---|
| Occurs without fertilisation, by mitosis. | Involves fertilisation and the fusion of gametes. |
| A single parent, with no special reproductive gametes. | Usually two parents producing male and female gametes. |
| Offspring are genetically identical copies, so there is no variation. | Genetic mixing produces variation among the offspring. |
Urea cycle and β-oxidation of saturated fatty acids
Question: (i) Describe the urea cycle. (ii) Explain the β-oxidation pathway of saturated fatty acid breakdown.
(i) The urea cycle
The urea cycle, also known as the ornithine cycle, takes place in the liver, with the first two reactions in the mitochondria and the rest in the cytosol. The liver is the principal site of urea formation and urea makes up roughly 80 to 90 per cent of the nitrogen excreted. The cycle has five reactions.
- Carbamoyl phosphate: formed from CO₂ and NH₃ by carbamoyl phosphate synthetase I, which needs ATP, Mg²⁺ and N-acetylglutamate.
- Citrulline: ornithine plus carbamoyl phosphate gives citrulline, by L-ornithine transcarbamoylase.
- Argininosuccinate: citrulline plus aspartate gives argininosuccinate, using ATP, by argininosuccinate synthetase.
- Arginine: argininosuccinate is cleaved to arginine and fumarate by argininosuccinate lyase.
- Urea: arginine is hydrolysed by arginase to urea and ornithine, and the ornithine re-enters the cycle.
(ii) β-oxidation of saturated fatty acids
Fatty acids are first activated to fatty acyl-CoA by acyl-CoA synthetase and carried into the mitochondria by the carnitine shuttle. Four steps then recur as a spiral, each round generating acetyl CoA, NADH and FADH₂.
- Oxidation: acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, an FAD enzyme, inserts a trans double bond between C-2 and C-3.
- Hydration: enoyl-CoA hydratase adds water to form L-3-hydroxyacyl CoA.
- Oxidation: an NAD⁺ dependent dehydrogenase oxidises the hydroxyl group to a keto group.
- Thiolysis: the chain is cleaved, releasing one acetyl CoA and a fatty acyl-CoA shorter by two carbons.
The number of cycles for an n-carbon acid is (n/2) − 1, so a 16-carbon acid goes through 7 rounds and yields 8 acetyl CoA.
Conclusion: the urea cycle, five reactions in the liver, safely disposes of toxic ammonia, while β-oxidation, four steps, extracts energy from fatty acids. These are the two highest yielding biochemistry questions in the paper.
Alveolar gas exchange and enzyme inhibition
Question: (i) Describe the exchange of respiratory gases in the alveoli. (ii) Define enzyme inhibition and explain its types.
(i) Exchange of respiratory gases in the alveoli
The major function of the lungs is gas exchange between inspired oxygen-rich air and deoxygenated blood. Exchange happens only in the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and alveolar sacs, never in the conducting tubes.
- Partial pressure gradient: blood arriving from the body tissues has low PO₂, around 40 mm Hg, and high PCO₂, around 45 mm Hg.
- Alveolar air: alveolar air is oxygen rich, with atmospheric PO₂ around 158 mm Hg and PCO₂ around 0.3 mm Hg.
- Diffusion of O₂: oxygen diffuses down its gradient from the alveoli into the pulmonary capillary blood.
- Diffusion of CO₂: carbon dioxide diffuses from the blood into the alveoli to be exhaled.
- Transport: the respiratory membrane, capillary wall plus alveolar wall, is very thin, and the oxygenated blood then drains away to the tissues.
(ii) Enzyme inhibition
Enzyme inhibitors are molecules that either bind at the active site of an enzyme, preventing the substrate from binding, or otherwise inhibit its catalytic activity. Inhibition is classified into two main types.
- Reversible inhibition: the inhibitor binds non-covalently and forms an equilibrium with the enzyme. The loss of activity is reversible and returns once the inhibitor is removed by dilution or dialysis.
- Irreversible inhibition: the inhibitor binds covalently or modifies the three dimensional structure, and activity cannot be recovered by dilution or dialysis. Heavy metal ions such as mercury and lead, and alkylating agents such as iodoacetate, are the standard examples.
Conclusion: alveolar gas exchange is purely diffusion driven by partial pressure gradients, while enzyme inhibition, reversible or irreversible, is the main way enzyme activity and drug action are controlled.
Molecular basis of muscle movement: the sliding filament mechanism
Question: Explain the molecular basis of muscle movement, the sliding filament mechanism, with the help of suitable diagrams.
Contraction in skeletal muscle is brought about by the thin actin filaments sliding past the thick myosin filaments, which shortens the sarcomere, the distance between two consecutive Z discs.
Contractile proteins
- Thick filament: made of myosin. Each molecule has two heavy chains, a tail and a head, and four light chains. The globular heads project sideways and form the cross-bridges.
- Thin filament: made mainly of actin, anchored at the Z line, with titin keeping the filaments aligned.
Changes observed during contraction
- A band: remains constant in width.
- H zone and I band: both decrease in length.
- Zone of overlap: increases as the thin filaments move towards the centre of the sarcomere.
- Z lines: come closer together, shortening every sarcomere and therefore the whole myofibril.
Because the filaments themselves do not shorten, these observations can only be explained by sliding. The myosin cross-bridges attach to actin, swivel, and pull the thin filaments inward using energy from ATP, with mitochondria and glycogen granules supplying that energy.
Conclusion: muscle shortening is not caused by filaments shortening but by actin sliding over myosin through cross-bridge cycling, the sliding filament model proposed in 1954.
Those are 5 of the 12 questions. The remaining 7 answers cover synaptic transmission with the fate of pyruvate, pituitary hormones with urine formation, ketone bodies with antioxidants, the structure of the human heart with coenzymes and cofactors, the structure of a neuron with cyclic AMP, fat soluble vitamins with the HMP shunt, and carbohydrate digestion with isoenzymes.

The BZYCT-135 term-end paper runs for 2 hours and carries 50 marks. Question 1 is compulsory and worth 10 marks, and you attempt any four questions from Question 2 to Question 7, each worth 10 marks.
Fifty marks in two hours means roughly twenty two minutes per question, and that is tighter than it sounds once diagrams are involved. The sliding filament answer, the nephron and the neuron all expect a labelled diagram, and students regularly spend eight minutes drawing one and then run short on the last answer.
| Question | Status | Marks | Usual format | Word target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Question 1 | Compulsory | 10 | Fill in the blanks 5 × 1, plus match the following 5 × 1 | One line per item |
| Questions 2 to 7 | Attempt any four | 10 each, 40 total | One descriptive answer, or two short notes 2 × 5, or four differences 2½ × 4, or two sub parts 5 + 5 | About 250 words for a full 10 mark answer, 140 to 150 words for each 5 mark part |
| Paper total | 5 questions attempted | 50 | Mixed physiology and biochemistry across all four blocks | 2 hours total |
Separately from the examination, BZYCT-135 carries one tutor marked assignment of 100 marks that counts for 30 per cent of your continuous evaluation, and you need 35 per cent in it to pass. The 2026 assignment runs ten questions of ten marks each, all compulsory, and you cannot fill the examination form for this course until it has been submitted.
BZYCT 135 Important Questions and Topic Repeat Frequency in Physiology and Biochemistry
Twenty four topics account for nearly every question set in BZYCT-135 between June 2023 and December 2025. The table below shows the sessions each appeared in, its priority band and what the answer has to contain to score.
The last column is the part worth studying. Knowing that the urea cycle repeats is only half the job. The marks sit in the enzyme names, the site and the exact step count, and that is what this column records topic by topic.

BZYCT 135 Physiology and Biochemistry Block Index with Key Topics
BZYCT-135 is organised into four blocks: Animal Physiology-I, Animal Physiology-II, Essential Molecules of Biochemistry and Metabolism. The first two are physiology, the last two are biochemistry, and the paper draws from all four.
The split matters when you plan revision. Blocks 1 and 2 reward diagrams and sequences, while Blocks 3 and 4 reward enzyme names and pathway steps. Students who are strong in one half and weak in the other usually lose marks because they revise both the same way. If you want the source blocks alongside these answers, the BZYCT 135 Study Material set is listed in our IGNOU material section.
| Block | Block title | What the block covers | What the paper actually asks from it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Block 1 | Animal Physiology-I | Nutrition and digestion, respiration and gas transport, circulation and the heart, excretion and the nephron | Alveolar gas exchange with the PO₂ and PCO₂ figures, urine formation in three stages, the four chambered heart with its valves, and carbohydrate digestion from mouth to brush border |
| Block 2 | Animal Physiology-II | Nerve and muscle physiology, the endocrine system, reproduction and chemical coordination | The sliding filament mechanism with a labelled sarcomere, neuron structure, synaptic transmission through acetylcholine, pituitary hormones lobe by lobe, and asexual against sexual reproduction |
| Block 3 | Essential Molecules of Biochemistry | Carbohydrates, proteins and lipids as biomolecules, enzymes and their kinetics, vitamins, free radicals and antioxidants | Enzyme inhibition split into reversible and irreversible, coenzyme against cofactor with two examples each, isoenzymes through the five LDH forms, fat soluble vitamins A D E K, and antioxidant defence |
| Block 4 | Metabolism | Carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, protein and nitrogen metabolism, bioenergetics | The urea cycle in five reactions, β-oxidation in four steps, glycogenesis against glycogenolysis, the HMP shunt and its significance, ketone body synthesis, and the fate of pyruvate |
Practical File Position for BZYCT 135 and the BZYCL 136 Laboratory Course
BZYCT-135 itself has no practical file. It is the theory course. The laboratory work sits in a separate companion course, BZYCL-136 Physiology and Biochemistry: Laboratory, which carries its own practical file, its own study centre sessions and its own practical examination.
This confuses a lot of BSCG Zoology students, so it is worth being clear. Registering for BZYCT-135 gives you a theory paper of 50 marks and one assignment. The experiments, the record work and the viva belong to BZYCL-136 and are assessed separately, usually at a study centre on scheduled practical days announced by your regional centre.
| Requirement | BZYCT-135 theory | BZYCL-136 laboratory |
|---|---|---|
| Practical file or record book | Not applicable, no experiments are attached to this course | Required, written up experiment by experiment and submitted at the study centre |
| Tutor marked assignment | One assignment of 100 marks, 30 per cent weightage, 35 per cent needed to pass | Handled through the laboratory course booklet issued separately |
| Term-end examination | 2 hours, 50 marks, five questions attempted | Practical examination held on scheduled days at the allotted study centre |
| Viva voce | None | Part of the practical assessment, based on the experiments in your record |
| What to prepare | Definitions, pathways with enzymes and sites, labelled diagrams, difference tables | Aim, requirements, principle, procedure, observation and result for each experiment |
Every experiment in a BZYCL-136 record follows the same six part structure listed in the last row above, and the marks in the practical examination are awarded against exactly those headings. Message us on WhatsApp if you want the experiment wise index and the ready practical file for BZYCL-136, since that is a separate product from this guess paper.
How This BZYCT 135 Guess Paper Was Built from Previous Year Question Papers
Topic selection came from reading six consecutive BZYCT-135 term-end papers, June 2023 to December 2025, and then testing the shortlist against the June 2026 paper before any answer was written.
The process was plain counting. Every question from all six papers was entered into one sheet, tagged to its block and its answer format, then counted. Topics repeating four or more times, or missing from a recent session and therefore due, went into the HIGH band. Two or three appearances went into MEDIUM. Single appearances were marked LOW and kept as backups rather than dropped.
That is why a few topics are deliberately light. Km and Vmax appeared once in six years, and pheromones once. They are in the frequency chart as backups, but they do not get a full worked answer, because a page of Lineweaver-Burk working would not raise anyone's score as much as one more clean pathway. You can run the same count yourself from our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper section, which carries the BZYCT-135 papers used here.
The answers were then written strictly from the official blocks so the terminology matches the marking key. You can check the course structure against the BZYCT-135 collection on eGyanKosh, the exam pattern against the June 2025 question paper, and the assignment rules against the 2026 assignment booklet published by IGNOU.
Who Should Use This IGNOU BZYCT 135 Solved Guess Paper
This file suits BSCG Zoology students who are short on revision time, students repeating BZYCT-135 after a backlog, and anyone who understands the physiology but keeps losing marks on the biochemistry pathways.
Three groups get the most from it. The first is the student with two or three weeks left who cannot realistically finish four blocks. The second is the reappear candidate who knows the content but wrote in the wrong format last time, a paragraph where a difference table was wanted. The third is the student who is comfortable with the heart, the nephron and the neuron but freezes at the urea cycle and β-oxidation, which is by far the most common split in this subject.
It is the wrong product if you have a full semester ahead and want conceptual depth. Read the blocks first in that case and keep this as a final month revision layer. The same method runs across our other science files, including the wider BSCG guess Paper range built for students of IGNOU's Bachelor of Science (General) and Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary under FYUP) programmes.
Mistakes That Cost Marks in BZYCT 135 Physiology and Biochemistry
Most lost marks in BZYCT-135 come from four habits: skipping enzyme names, changing the book's step counts, writing in the wrong answer format, and treating the compulsory Question 1 as a warm up.
Describing a pathway without its enzymes is the biggest one. Writing that ammonia is converted to urea in the liver earns almost nothing on its own. Writing carbamoyl phosphate synthetase I, ornithine transcarbamoylase, argininosuccinate synthetase, argininosuccinate lyase and arginase earns the step marks the examiner is counting.
Changing the counts is the second. β-oxidation has four steps and the urea cycle has five reactions. If you write three steps, the missing one is a straight deduction even when the three you wrote are correct. The same applies to the two phases of the HMP shunt and the five forms of lactate dehydrogenase.
The third is format. When the paper says write the differences, it wants a two column table, not prose. When it says write short notes on two items, it wants two clearly separated notes of roughly 140 words each, not one merged essay. The fourth is Question 1. Ten marks of pure recall, compulsory, and routinely rushed in the first five minutes, when it is the most reliable scoring on the whole paper.
7 Day Revision Plan Using the BZYCT 135 Guess Paper
Seven days is workable for BZYCT-135 if you give three days to metabolism, two to physiology, one to enzymes and vitamins, and the last to Question 1 recall plus a timed mock.
- Day 1: the urea cycle and β-oxidation. Write both step lists from memory with every enzyme named before you move on. These two carry the most marks per hour spent.
- Day 2: glycogenesis against glycogenolysis, the fate of pyruvate, and the HMP shunt with its two phases and its metabolic significance.
- Day 3: ketone bodies and their synthesis, plus transamination and deamination. Both are recent-session topics that many students skip entirely.
- Day 4: Block 2 physiology. The sliding filament mechanism, neuron structure and synaptic transmission, each with the diagram drawn at exam speed.
- Day 5: Block 1 physiology. Alveolar gas exchange with the pressure figures, urine formation in three stages, heart structure with its valves.
- Day 6: enzymes and vitamins. Enzyme inhibition, coenzyme against cofactor, isoenzymes and LDH, fat soluble vitamins as a table, antioxidants.
- Day 7: drill Question 1 recall, enzyme names, sites and one line definitions, then sit the June 2025 paper in two hours and mark it against the word targets.

WhatsApp 9899436384 for BZYCT-135BZYCT 135 Physiology and Biochemistry Guess Paper FAQs
What is included in the BZYCT 135 guess paper with answers for Physiology and Biochemistry?
The BZYCT-135 file includes 12 solved questions across 12 pages, drawn from all four blocks. The compulsory Question 1 is worked out with solved fill in the blanks and match items, and the remaining answers are written as ten mark responses in the formats the paper uses. It also carries a question index, a header strip on every answer, an examiner briefing and a topic frequency chart.
Is the BZYCT 135 Physiology and Biochemistry guess paper valid for the December 2026 term-end examination?
Yes. The file is prepared for the December 2026 session of BZYCT-135 and the shortlist was tested against the June 2026 paper before release. IGNOU has not changed the four block structure or the paper pattern, so the compulsory Question 1 and the any four from six arrangement still apply. It stays usable for the June 2027 session unless the course is revised.
How many questions does the IGNOU BZYCT 135 guess paper contain and how many are shown on this page?
The complete BZYCT-135 guess paper contains 12 questions with full answers. Five are published on this page as samples, leaving 7 answers inside the file. The five were picked to cover all four blocks and every answer format the paper uses, so what you read here reflects the standard of the whole document rather than a selected best case.
Are the BZYCT 135 important questions based on previous year question papers?
Yes. Every question was chosen after reading six consecutive BZYCT-135 term-end papers from June 2023 to December 2025, then cross-checking the shortlist against the June 2026 paper. Each question was tagged by block and by answer format and counted. Topics repeating four or more times, or absent from a recent session and therefore due, form the high priority core of the file.
Does BZYCT 135 have a practical file or is the practical part of a separate course?
BZYCT-135 is the theory course and has no practical file of its own. The laboratory work belongs to BZYCL-136 Physiology and Biochemistry: Laboratory, a separate course with its own record book, study centre sessions, practical examination and viva. Students in BSCG Zoology normally register for both, but they are assessed independently and prepared from different material.
What is the exam pattern and marking scheme for IGNOU BZYCT 135 Physiology and Biochemistry?
BZYCT-135 runs for 2 hours and carries 50 marks. Question 1 is compulsory and worth 10 marks, made up of five fill in the blanks and five match the following items. You then attempt any four questions from Question 2 to Question 7, each worth 10 marks, giving 40 more. That is five questions attempted in total across both physiology and biochemistry.
How much does the BZYCT 135 assignment count towards the final result?
The BZYCT-135 tutor marked assignment carries 30 per cent weightage in continuous evaluation and is set for 100 marks, of which you need 35 per cent to pass it. The 2026 assignment has ten compulsory questions of ten marks each. You cannot fill the examination form for this course until the assignment has been submitted at your study centre within the valid dates.
How do I get the complete BZYCT 135 Solved Guess Paper with all answers?
Send a WhatsApp message with the course code BZYCT-135 to 9899436384 along with your session and programme. The complete file with all 12 solved questions is shared as a print ready document, usually within a few minutes during working hours.
