- (क) आज इस सारी वकालत के पैसे और बुद्धिमत्ता की प्रतिष्ठा के ऊपर बैठकर सोचता हूँ कि क्यों मुझसे तनिक मूर्ख नहीं बना गया? इस सब रुपये को और प्रतिष्ठा को अब मैं पेट से बाँधकर कहाँ ले जाऊँ? इस सबका मैं क्या करूँ, जबकि समय पर प्रेम के प्रतिदान से मैं चूक गया।
- (ख) मासिक वेतन तो पूर्णमासी का चाँद है, जो एक दिन दिखाई देता है और घटते-घटते लुप्त हो जाता है। ऊपरी आय बहता हुआ स्रोत है जिससे सदैव प्यास बुझती है। वेतन मनुष्य देता है, इसी से उसमें वृद्धि नहीं होती। ऊपरी आमदनी ईश्वर देता है, उसी से उसकी बरकत होती है, तुम स्वयं विद्वान हो तुम्हें क्या समझाऊँ। इस विषय में विवेक की बड़ी आवश्यकता है।
- (ग) मुझे स्मरण है जब मैं छोटी थी, मेरे पिता नौकरी पर समुद्र में जाते थे। मेरी माता मिट्टी का दीपक बाँस की पिटारी में भागीरथी के तट पर बाँस के साथ ऊँचे टाँग देती थी। उस समय वह प्रार्थना करती, "भगवान मेरे पथ-भ्रष्ट नाविक को अंधकार में ठीक पथ पर ले चलना।" और जब मेरे पिता बरसों घर लौटते तो कहते, "साध्वी तेरी प्रार्थना से भगवान ने संकटों में मेरी रक्षा की है।"
- (घ) जिस स्थान पर कोई बहुत दिनों तक रह आता है उसे छोड़ते हुए उसे दु:ख होता है। पशु और बालक भी जिनके साथ रहते हैं उन्हें परच जाते हैं। यह 'परचना' परिचय से निकलता है। परिचय प्रेम का प्रवर्तक है। बिना परिचय के प्रेम नहीं हो सकता। यदि देश-प्रेम के लिए हृदय में जगह करनी है तो देश के स्वरूप से परिचित और अभ्यस्त हो जाओ।
- (ङ) दु:ख और सुख तो मन के विकल्प हैं। सुखी वह है जिसका मन वश में है, दुखी वह है जिसका मन परवश है। परवश होने का अर्थ है: खुशामद करना, दाँत निपोरना, चाटुकारिता, हाँ-हजूरी। जिसका मन अपने वश में नहीं है वही दूसरे के मन का छंदावर्तन करता है, अपने को छिपाने के लिए मिथ्या आडम्बर रचता है, दूसरों को फँसाने के लिए जाल बिछाता है।
