Course Overview

ECO 13 Solved Question Paper for June 2026 gives you expert answers to every question IGNOU set in the ECO-013 Business Environment term-end exam, written in the length and structure examiners reward. Two answers are open on this page so you can judge the quality first.

What the ECO 13 Solved Question Paper June 2026 covers

ECO 13 Business Environment is a 50-mark elective commerce course in IGNOU's Bachelor's Degree Programme, and this file solves all 8 questions of its June 2026 paper.

The June 2026 paper moved across the whole course. It opened with the economic versus non-economic environment, went through ecology, government regulation, monetary policy, privatisation and industrial disputes, and closed with foreign capital and four short notes. That spread touches all four blocks of the syllabus.

Students preparing for the December 2026 TEE use this paper as a full mock. If you also want papers from other commerce courses in your scheme, our BCOM Question Paper collection follows the same answer style, so your revision stays consistent across subjects.

ECO 13 Business Environment sample answers (Q1 and Q2)

Q1 and Q2 are solved in full below; the other 6 questions of the June 2026 paper are printed as text only and are answered in the complete file.

Both sample answers were written by our team for this page, because the official paper carries questions only. They use the same headings, length and Indian examples as the rest of the file.

Sample 1 Question 1 5+5 marks

Question 1

Q1. How does economic environment of business differ from non-economic environment ? How do they interact with each other ? (5+5)

Answer

Business environment is the total of all external forces that affect how a business is set up, run and grown. IGNOU divides these forces into two groups: the economic environment and the non-economic environment. Neither can be studied alone, because each keeps shaping the other.

(a) Economic environment and non-economic environment: the difference (5 marks)

The economic environment is made up of three parts. First, the economic system, which in India is a mixed economy where public and private sectors work side by side. Second, economic policies such as industrial, fiscal, monetary, trade and foreign investment policy. Third, economic conditions such as GDP growth, inflation, income levels, savings, credit and infrastructure.

The non-economic environment covers every other external force: social and cultural values, demographic trends, the political system, the legal framework, technology and the natural or ecological setting. These factors decide what a business is allowed to do, what society will accept and what is technically possible.

Economic vs non-economic environment of business in ECO 13: six points of difference
Basis Economic environment Non-economic environment
Main factorsIncome, prices, interest rates, credit, trade flowsValues, population, laws, government, technology, nature
MeasurementMostly numbers: GDP growth, CPI inflation, repo rateMostly qualitative: attitudes, stability, legal change
Direct effect on businessPurchasing power, cost of capital, size of demandWhat can be sold, how it must be made, how it is received
Speed of changeFast: a rate change or Budget can shift it in weeksSlow for culture; step changes for laws and technology
Main sourcesRBI, Ministry of Finance, marketsSociety, Parliament and courts, research bodies
Typical business responseForecasting, pricing, financing decisionsProduct design, compliance, CSR, public relations

(b) How the two environments interact (5 marks)

  1. Political choices change the economy. The New Industrial Policy of July 1991 was a political decision taken during a balance of payments crisis. It ended industrial licensing for most industries and opened the economy, which completely changed the economic environment for Indian firms.
  2. Economic growth reshapes society. Rising incomes and urbanisation have pushed the shift to nuclear families and changed lifestyles. That in turn created demand for packaged food, two-wheelers, consumer credit and online shopping.
  3. Demography feeds the economy. India's large working-age population is both a labour supply and a huge consumer market. The same trend also puts pressure on the economy to create jobs, which then shapes government policy.
  4. Technology and policy move together. UPI, launched by NPCI in 2016, changed how people pay, which is a social change. Demonetisation in November 2016, an economic policy step, pushed even more users towards digital payments and lowered transaction costs for businesses.
  5. Law redirects economic resources. Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 requires companies above set thresholds to spend at least 2% of their average net profit on CSR. A legal factor thus moves money towards social causes.
  6. Ecology affects costs and markets. Stricter pollution norms raise compliance costs for old plants, while the same concern creates new markets such as electric vehicles and solar power.

Conclusion: The economic and non-economic environments work in a two-way, continuous loop. A manager who tracks only economic data will miss the social, legal or technological shifts that change demand. That is why firms scan both before planning strategy.

Sample 2 Question 2 5+5 marks

Question 2

Q2. What are the ecological issues created by industrial growth ? Outline the measures being taken to resolve these issues. (5+5)

Answer

Ecology is the study of how living beings relate to one another and to their surroundings. Industrial growth raises output, jobs and income, but it also puts heavy pressure on air, water, land and living species. Business environment studies these issues because they now shape laws, costs and public opinion.

(a) Ecological issues created by industrial growth (5 marks)

  1. Air pollution: Thermal power plants, cement, steel and chemical units and vehicle exhaust release particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, causing breathing illness in industrial cities.
  2. Water pollution: Untreated effluents from industries such as tanneries, textiles and chemicals enter rivers and groundwater, harming drinking water, farming and fisheries.
  3. Land degradation and waste: Mining, fly ash dumps, hazardous chemical waste, plastic and e-waste damage soil and need safe disposal.
  4. Deforestation and loss of biodiversity: Land cleared for mines, dams and factories destroys forests and the habitats of many species.
  5. Climate change: Burning coal, oil and gas for industry releases greenhouse gases that raise global temperatures.
  6. Resource depletion: Over-use of groundwater, minerals and fossil fuels leaves less for future generations.
  7. Industrial accidents: The Bhopal gas tragedy of December 1984, when methyl isocyanate leaked from the Union Carbide plant, showed how one unsafe plant can harm thousands of people.

(b) Measures being taken to resolve these issues (5 marks)

  1. Environmental laws: The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972; the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, which set up the Central and State Pollution Control Boards; the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980; the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981; and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, an umbrella law passed after Bhopal.
  2. Liability and courts: The Public Liability Insurance Act, 1991 makes hazardous units insure against accident claims, and the National Green Tribunal, set up under a 2010 Act, hears environmental cases quickly.
  3. Administrative control: A separate Ministry of Environment and Forests was created in 1985 (now the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change). Under the EIA Notification, 2006, listed projects need prior environmental clearance, and units need consent from the State Pollution Control Board to set up and to operate.
  4. National programmes: The National Action Plan on Climate Change, 2008 with its eight national missions, Namami Gange for cleaning the Ganga, and the National Clean Air Programme launched in 2019.
  5. Market-based tools: The polluter pays principle, Extended Producer Responsibility under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and incentives for clean technology and renewable energy.
  6. Action by business: Firms adopt ISO 14001 environmental management systems, treat effluents, recycle water and spend CSR funds on environmental sustainability, which is listed in Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013.

Conclusion: India's approach is to keep growing while protecting nature, which is the idea of sustainable development. Laws give the framework, but results depend on strict enforcement and on businesses treating ecology as part of their own long-term interest.

Industrial sickness and foreign trade were each asked in six or more sessions yet skipped in June 2026, so expect at least one of them in December 2026. For a ranked list built from the same papers, see our IGNOU Important Questions page.

How our ECO 13 answers are written and checked

Every ECO 13 answer is written from the IGNOU self-learning material, matched to the paper's mark split, and checked by a second reviewer before it goes into the file.

  1. Source first: answers follow the unit texts of the official course, available on the eGyanKosh ECO-13 Business Environment page, so the terms match what your evaluator expects.
  2. Mark split decides length: a 5+5 question gets two balanced halves; a 2+8 question gets a crisp definition and a long, point-wise body.
  3. Facts are dated: Acts are named with their years, such as the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and bodies such as the RBI and the National Green Tribunal are named correctly.
  4. Indian examples: each answer uses at least one Indian case, from the 1991 reforms to UPI, because ECO 13 is about the Indian business environment.
  5. Review: Prateek Talwar writes the answers and Sheetal Kirola checks them for accuracy, structure and plain language.

Programmes that study ECO 13 Business Environment

ECO 13 is an elective commerce course of IGNOU's Bachelor's Degree Programme, studied by B.Com students and set in Semester IV of both BBA and the BAVMSME vocational degree.

  • BCOM: the old-scheme Bachelor of Commerce (Old Syllabus / Major in Financial and Cost Accounting), where ECO 13 sits among the ECO elective courses.
  • BCOMFCA: eGyanKosh lists ECO-13 under B.Com with Major in Financial and Cost Accounting.
  • BAVMSME: IGNOU's official assignment index for BA (Vocational Studies) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises lists ECO-13 in Semester IV.
  • BBA: IGNOU's official ECO-13 assignment for 2026 is issued under the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Fourth Semester, so BBA learners sit this same paper.

The June 2026 paper itself prints "Bachelor's Degree Programme (BDP), Elective Course: Commerce", so the same paper is set for every programme above.

ECO 13 Business Environment FAQs

What does the ECO 13 Solved Question Paper June 2026 include?

It includes complete answers to all 8 questions from the official IGNOU ECO-013 Business Environment paper held in June 2026, including all four short-note options in Q8. Each answer follows the printed mark split, such as 5+5 or 2+8. This page shows Q1 and Q2 in full, and the remaining 6 answers are shared only in the full file on WhatsApp 9899436384.

How many questions were in the ECO 13 June 2026 paper, and how many must I attempt?

The ECO 13 June 2026 paper printed 8 questions and asked students to attempt any five, with every question carrying 10 marks for a total of 50 marks in 2 hours. Questions 1 to 7 are long answers split as 5+5 or 2+8, while Q8 asks for short notes on any two of four topics, worth 5 marks each.

How do I get the full ECO 13 Solved Question Paper on WhatsApp?

Send a message to WhatsApp 9899436384 with the code ECO 13 and the session June 2026. Our team replies with the price and payment details, then shares the PDF on the same chat. The file holds answers to all 8 questions, which means the 2 shown here plus 6 more, and Q8 is solved for all four short-note options, not just two.

Which ECO 13 Business Environment topics repeat most often?

Across the nine official ECO-13 papers we checked from June 2021 to December 2025, non-economic environment and industrial sickness each appeared in 7 sessions. Social responsibility of business, consumer protection and foreign trade appeared in 6 each. The December 2024 paper was not available on IGNOU's site, so it is not counted. June 2026 asked CSR and consumer rights again in Q8.

Are the ECO 13 answers written to the length IGNOU examiners expect?

Yes. Each of the two ECO 13 sample answers on this page runs to roughly 450 to 550 words, which suits a 10-mark question that a student must finish in about 24 minutes. Where the paper splits marks as 2+8, the answer gives a short definition first and spends most of its length on the 8-mark part, with headings and Indian examples for quick revision.

Is ECO 13 Business Environment the same course as ECO-013?

Yes. IGNOU prints the code as ECO-13 on most past papers and as ECO-013 on the June 2026 and December 2021 papers, but both refer to the same Business Environment course in the Bachelor's Degree Programme, Elective Course: Commerce. The 4 blocks and 16 units on eGyanKosh and the 50-mark term-end format are the same, so older ECO-13 papers remain useful practice.

Which IGNOU programmes include ECO 13 Business Environment?

ECO 13 is an elective commerce course in IGNOU's Bachelor's Degree Programme. It is studied in the old-scheme B.Com (BCOM), eGyanKosh lists it under B.Com with Major in Financial and Cost Accounting (BCOMFCA), and it is a Semester IV course in BA (Vocational Studies) MSME (BAVMSME). It is also a Semester IV course in IGNOU's BBA. Check your programme guide before buying ECO 13 material.

Can the ECO 13 June 2026 solved paper help in the December 2026 exam?

Yes, because ECO 13 papers repeat themes heavily. The role and shortcomings of foreign capital appeared in June 2021 and June 2024 with almost the same wording as June 2026, and industrial disputes returned from June 2023. Working through all 8 June 2026 answers gives you ready structures for these repeat themes before the December 2026 term-end exam.
