MEV 11 Solved Guess Paper 2026 is a sixteen page revision pack carrying fourteen high weightage questions from Fundamentals of Environmental Science and Ecology, each one answered in full. It was prepared after reading the last six term end papers of this course, from June 2023 through to December 2025, and mapping every repeated question back to its block and unit in the IGNOU study material.
Nothing here is guesswork dressed up as analysis. If a topic sits in this paper, it earned its place in the tally.
Most students opening MEV-011 for the first time hit the same wall. The course is four credits, the syllabus runs across sixteen units, and the term end paper asks you to attempt any ten questions in three hours. There is no shortage of material to read. What is missing is a reliable answer to the only question that matters three weeks before the exam, which is what to read first.

What the MEV 11 Solved Guess Paper 2026 Actually Contains
Fourteen questions, fourteen complete answers, sixteen pages, covering all four blocks of MEV-011. There is no filler, no padded introduction and no list of tips standing in for content. Every page is either a question, its answer, or the analysis that justifies why the question is there.
Each question in the pack is presented the same way. You see the exam styled question as IGNOU tends to phrase it, the marks split written on it, the block and unit it maps to, the sessions in which it last appeared, and a priority label. Then the answer follows, opening with a textbook definition, moving through numbered points, and closing with an evaluative line.
That closing line matters more than students expect. A ten mark answer in Environmental Science that stops abruptly after the last bullet reads as incomplete, and evaluators mark it that way. Two sentences of conclusion routinely separate a seven from a nine.
If you are still assembling your full revision set for the semester, the wider IGNOU Solved Guess Paper collection carries the same format for other course codes in your programme, and the MEV 11 Study Material page lists the block PDFs you should be reading alongside this pack.
Five Sample Questions With Answers From the MEV 11 Guess Paper
Five of the fourteen answers are reproduced below in full, one from each block, so you can judge the writing before you spend anything. These are not summaries or teasers. They are the exact answers as they appear inside the PDF, so what you read here is what you get for the remaining nine.
Multidisciplinary nature, scope and importance of Environmental Science
Question: Explain the multidisciplinary nature of Environmental Science. Give its scope and importance.
Meaning. Environmental science can be defined as an interdisciplinary study of how the Earth works, how we are affecting the Earth's life support systems, and how to deal with the environmental problems we face.
Multidisciplinary nature. Environmental science touches every aspect of life and draws on biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, biochemistry, statistics, geology, economics, management, law and sociology.
- Life sciences such as botany, zoology, genetics, ecology, biochemistry and microbiology explain the biotic components.
- Physical sciences such as chemistry, physics, geology, oceanography and geography explain the abiotic components.
- Economics, sociology and management supply the socio economic inputs on development.
- Mathematics, statistics and computer science act as tools in resource management.
- Engineering and nanotechnology provide technical solutions for pollution control and waste treatment.
- Political science and environmental law provide guidelines for judicious environmental management.
- Education and mass communication make people aware of environmental problems and their solutions.
Scope and importance. It deals with the day to day interaction of living beings with their surroundings, explains the place of biodiversity conservation in ecological balance, examines ecosystems and their biotic and abiotic factors, and studies food chains, food webs, ecological pyramids, productivity and carrying capacity.
Conclusion. A multidisciplinary approach generates sustainable use of resources for present and future generations and protects environmental quality.
Population and its parameters
Question: Define population and discuss the concepts of density, natality, mortality and population distribution.
Meaning. A population is a group of organisms of the same species occupying a specific area at a particular time. A population has group characteristics that are statistical measures belonging to the group rather than to any individual, and their study over time is called demography.
- Density. The number of individuals, or the population biomass, per unit area or volume at a given time. This is the basic characteristic of a population.
- Natality. The ability of a population to increase, equivalent to birth rate. Maximum natality is a constant, while ecological or realised natality varies with conditions.
- Mortality. The death of individuals in a population. Realised mortality is the actual loss under given conditions and is represented through survivorship curves.
- Population distribution. The dispersion pattern of individuals, which is uniform under severe competition, random in a uniform environment and rare in nature, or clumped, which is the commonest pattern.
Conclusion. Density is governed by natality, mortality, immigration and emigration, and a change in any of these four parameters changes population size.
Salient features of a community and species interactions
Question: What are the salient features of a community? Explain the species interactions occurring among organisms in a community.
Meaning. The various kinds of organisms occurring in association with each other and sharing the same habitat constitute a community.
Salient features. A community represents the biotic component of the ecosystem. It is made up of organisms with interlocking food chains, so species are interrelated. It may be of any size, from a forest to a rotting log. There may be a community within a community. Communities are autotrophic or heterotrophic depending on their energy source, and the concept of the stand, a uniform area of vegetation, is interrelated with it.
| Interaction | Nature of the relationship |
|---|---|
| Neutralism | No effect on each other |
| Commensalism | Species 1 benefits, species 2 is unaffected |
| Proto cooperation | Both benefit, but the association is not obligatory |
| Mutualism | Both benefit, and the association is obligatory |
| Competition | Both inhibit each other |
| Amensalism | Species 1 is inhibited, species 2 is unaffected |
| Parasitism | Parasite is smaller than the host |
| Predation | Predator is larger than the prey |
Conclusion. Odum grouped these interactions as neutral, positive or negative, and together they organise the community and hold ecological balance in place.
Ecosystem structure and function
Question: What is an ecosystem? Describe the structure and functions of an ecosystem.
Meaning. An ecosystem is a self regulating independent primary unit of the ecological hierarchy, a functional unit with a set of inputs and outputs within natural or arbitrary boundaries. The term was first proposed by the British ecologist Sir Arthur G. Tansley in 1935.
Structure. The abiotic component is the non living part, made up of inorganic substances such as carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, oxygen and sulphur, organic material, and climatic factors such as temperature, rainfall, light and humidity. The biotic component consists of autotrophs, the producers, and heterotrophs, the consumers. The trophic structure is the arrangement of these organisms across trophic levels.
Function. Producers convert solar energy, with minerals drawn from air and soil, into complex organic matter that passes to consumers. When plants and animals die, decomposers break their bodies down into simple materials. Food energy moves from one trophic level to the next through food chains and food webs.
Conclusion. The ecosystem is the basic functional unit of the ecological hierarchy, the level at which energy flows and materials cycle between biotic and abiotic components.
Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development
Question: What is Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development? Explain their significance to human society.
Environmental Education. It produces a population aware of and concerned about the environment and its associated problems, and one that has the knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivations and commitment to work towards solutions.
ESD. Education for Sustainable Development allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future.
Components of Environmental Education. Awareness and sensitivity, knowledge and understanding, promotion of positive attitudes, skills development, and improved inclusion.
Significance to society. Environmental Education empowers individuals, groups and institutions to explore environmental issues in the direction of sustainability. ESD takes on climate change, global warming, disaster and waste management and energy conservation together rather than in isolation. Today ESD sits at the core of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, under SDG 4 and Target 4.7.
Conclusion. From the Belgrade Charter of 1976 and the Tbilisi Declaration of 1978 through to Agenda 21 in 1992, Environmental Education grew into ESD as the holistic route to a sustainable future.
Those five cover Block 1, Block 2 twice, Block 3 and Block 4. The remaining nine answers in the pack are written to the same length and the same standard.

Six term end papers were read question by question, from June 2023 to December 2025, and every question was tagged to its block and unit before any answer was written. The December 2025 paper, the most recent one available, was analysed last and given the heaviest weight.
Three signals decided whether a topic made the cut. The first is raw repetition, meaning how many of the six papers carried that topic in any form. The second is recency, because a topic asked in the last two sittings tends to stay live. The third is the gap pattern, which is the one most guess papers ignore. A topic that appeared in four of six papers but has been absent for two consecutive sittings is statistically due, and those are flagged rather than dropped.
Working out the gap pattern for yourself is entirely possible, and some students prefer to. If that is you, start from the IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper archive and build your own tally sheet across six sittings. It takes an evening or two and it teaches you the paper properly.
Once the topic list was fixed, each answer was written from the MEV-011 textbook rather than from general environmental science sources. That constraint is deliberate. An answer full of correct but non textbook content still loses marks against an IGNOU evaluation key, because the key is written from the same book you were issued.

MEV 11 Blocks and Units Covered by This Guess Paper
MEV-011 runs to four blocks and sixteen units, and this guess paper draws from every one of the four blocks. The table below shows the official block structure alongside the questions built from it.
| Block | Block title | Units | Core ground covered | Questions from this block |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Concepts of Environmental Science | Units 1 to 4 | Introduction to Environmental Science, human impact on environment, global and local environmental issues, sustainable development and the SDG framework | Q1 to Q4 |
| 2 | Fundamentals of Ecology | Units 5 to 9 | Definition and levels of ecological organisation, population parameters, community features and species interactions, succession, world biomes | Q5 to Q9 |
| 3 | Ecosystem Dynamics and Processes | Units 10 to 13 | Principles and Concept of Ecosystem, energy flow and productivity, biogeochemical cycles, Restoration Ecology and habitat recovery | Q10 to Q12 |
| 4 | Domains of Environmental Science | Units 14 to 16 | Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development, environmental economics and valuation, environmental management systems and auditing | Q13 and Q14 |
Block titles and unit listings above follow the official course material hosted on eGyanKosh, IGNOU's own digital repository. If a block PDF on your list looks different from what your study centre issued, eGyanKosh is the version to trust.
One point worth settling early, because it comes up in almost every enquiry. MEV-011 is a theory course. There is no practical file, no lab record and no viva attached to this code, so the only thing standing between you and the hundred marks is the written paper. The index in the section above is the index you need.
Topic Frequency in MEV 11 Papers From June 2023 to December 2025
Twenty three topics were tracked across six papers, and twelve of the highest signal rows are shown below. "Yes" means the topic appeared in that sitting in some form. The complete twenty three row table sits inside the PDF.
| Topic | Jun 23 | Dec 23 | Jun 24 | Dec 24 | Jun 25 | Dec 25 | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multidisciplinary nature, scope and importance of Environmental Science | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Ecological succession, climax, hydrosere and lithosere | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Community organisation, features and species interactions | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Restoration ecology and habitat restoration | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Major environmental issues and their impacts | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Biogeochemical cycles: carbon, nitrogen, hydrological | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Ecosystem structure and function | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Basic concept of ecology and levels of organisation | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | Yes | HIGH |
| Environmental Education and ESD | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | Yes | HIGH |
| Population: density, natality, mortality, distribution | Yes | Yes | No | Yes | No | Yes | HIGH |
| Environmental management, policy, EMS and auditing | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | HIGH |
| Major biomes of the world | Yes | No | No | Yes | No | Yes | MEDIUM |
Read the middle of that table rather than the top. Two rows carry a Yes in all six sittings, and those two are effectively guaranteed. The interesting rows are the ones with a gap in the most recent sitting, because those are the questions that tend to walk back in.
Students in the wider environmental studies stream often check the pattern across their other first year codes at the same time, and the MSCENV Guess Paper and MAEVS Guess Paper pages carry the equivalent breakdown for those.
MEV 11 Exam Pattern, Marking Split and Answer Length
Three hours, one hundred marks, and you attempt any ten questions of the fourteen or fifteen printed. All questions carry ten marks each, and there are no compulsory questions in this paper.
Inside a ten mark question the marks usually split as 2 + 8, 5 + 5, or five sub points of two marks each. Recognising the split as you read the question tells you how to divide the page. A 2 + 8 question wants a short definition and a long body. A 5 + 5 wants two balanced halves, and writing eight hundred words on the first half will cost you the second.
On length, treat a ten mark answer as roughly two hundred and fifty words and a five mark answer as roughly one hundred and fifty. Ten answers at two hundred and fifty words is around two thousand five hundred words in three hours, which is a real constraint, not a suggestion. Every answer in the pack is written to that target so you are practising at exam pace.
Three habits pick up marks in this specific paper. Open with the textbook definition and name the scholar, so Haeckel in 1886 for ecology and Tansley in 1935 for ecosystem. Cite years and documents where the book gives them. Use the exact counts the book uses, such as Odum's nine interactions or the four steps of the nitrogen cycle, because an examiner scanning for those numbers finds them instantly.
Who Should Use the MEV 11 Solved Guess Paper
Anyone sitting MEV-011 in June or December 2026 across MSCENV, MAEVS, PGDEML or PGDEVS, since the same course code and the same paper serve all of them. The code appears in the first semester of the master's programmes and as a core course in the postgraduate diplomas.
It is built for four situations in particular. The student who started late and has three weeks rather than three months. The working professional fitting revision around a job, who needs the reading list cut to what actually appears. The reappear candidate who has already seen the paper once and knows which topics cost them last time. And the careful student who has read all four blocks and simply wants to know where to concentrate the final pass.
It is not built for a student who wants to skip the study material entirely. Fourteen questions cover the examinable core, not the whole syllabus, and the paper prints more questions than you need to answer. Read the blocks, then use this to prioritise.
A Ten Day MEV 11 Revision Plan Using This Paper
Ten days is enough for MEV-011 if you write rather than only read. The plan below assumes about two hours a day and uses the pack as the spine.
- Days 1 and 2. Block 1 questions. Learn the definitions of environmental science and sustainable development word for word, along with the three pillars and the 2015 SDG adoption year.
- Days 3 to 5. Block 2, which is the heaviest section. Ecology levels, population parameters, Odum's interaction table and the five stages of succession. Draw the interaction table from memory each morning.
- Days 6 and 7. Block 3. Ecosystem structure and function, then the carbon and nitrogen cycles. Write the nitrogen cycle in its four named steps until the sequence is automatic.
- Day 8. Block 4. Environmental Education and ESD, then EMS and environmental auditing with the plan, do, check, act model and the ISO 14000 family.
- Day 9. Full mock. Ten questions, three hours, handwritten, no notes. This is the day that changes your score.
- Day 10. Repair work only. Rewrite the three answers that went worst in the mock and reread every definition and scholar name.
Skip day nine and the rest of the plan loses most of its value. Descriptive papers are decided by writing speed as much as recall, and the only way to find your speed is under a clock.

Message us on WhatsApp at 9899436384 with your course code and the session you are appearing in, and we will confirm availability and pricing for the complete pack. Delivery is on WhatsApp once the enquiry is confirmed.
Five answers are already on this page. The complete pack adds the remaining nine, the full twenty three row frequency table and the three revision rules, in one sixteen page PDF sized for a phone screen.
Tell us which session you are sitting when you message. June and December papers differ in emphasis, and we will tell you which of the fourteen to open first based on what came up in the sitting just gone.
MEV 11 Guess Paper Questions Students Ask Us
Is the MEV 11 Solved Guess Paper valid for both June 2026 and December 2026?
Yes. The pack targets both the June 2026 and December 2026 term end examinations of MEV-011. Topic selection was based on six papers spanning both sitting types, so the fourteen questions hold across either session. If you are appearing in December, message us and we will point you to the questions the June paper left untouched, since those carry the higher probability.
How many questions does the MEV 11 guess paper contain and how many are answered here?
The pack contains fourteen questions, every one with a complete written answer. Five of those fourteen are reproduced in full on this page, drawn from all four blocks, so the remaining nine come with the complete pack. Nothing is abridged in the samples. What you read above is exactly what the PDF contains, at the same length and standard.
Does MEV 11 have a practical file or lab record I also need to prepare?
No. MEV-011 Fundamentals of Environmental Science and Ecology is a theory course carrying four credits, with no practical file, lab manual or viva attached to the code. Your entire hundred marks come from the three hour written paper, plus the assignment component your programme requires separately. The question index on this page is therefore the full index you need.
Which IGNOU programmes include MEV 11 as a course?
MEV-011 appears in the first semester of the M.Sc. in Environmental Science and the M.A. in Environmental Studies, and as a core course in the Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management and Law and the Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies. The course code, syllabus and term end paper are identical across all of them, so one guess paper serves every student sitting it.
Are the MEV 11 answers written from the IGNOU textbook or from outside sources?
Every answer is written from the IGNOU MEV-011 study material only. That restriction is deliberate, because evaluation keys are drawn from the same book you were issued. Correct content sourced from elsewhere can still score below expectation when it does not match the phrasing and structure the key looks for. Definitions, scholar names and counts are kept exactly as the book gives them.
Can I pass MEV 11 by reading only this guess paper?
It improves your odds considerably, but we will not promise a pass on fourteen questions alone. The paper prints fourteen or fifteen questions and you answer any ten, so a strong command of these fourteen puts you in a good position. Read the four block PDFs at least once as well. The guess paper is built to prioritise your revision, not to replace the syllabus.
What is the exam pattern for MEV 11 and how long should each answer be?
MEV-011 runs three hours for a hundred marks, and you attempt any ten questions with equal marks of ten each. There are no compulsory questions. Marks inside a question usually split as 2 + 8 or 5 + 5. Target roughly two hundred and fifty words for a ten mark answer and one hundred and fifty for a five mark part, structured as definition, points and conclusion.
How do I receive the complete MEV 11 guess paper after enquiring?
Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with your course code and session, and we will confirm availability and pricing on that chat. Once the enquiry is settled, the sixteen page PDF is delivered to the same WhatsApp number. Send your enrolment programme too, whether MSCENV, MAEVS, PGDEML or PGDEVS, so we can flag anything specific to your session in the reply.
