Value Highlights

MEV 14 Solved Guess Paper gives you 14 full answers across all 4 blocks of Sustainable Natural Resource Management.
Topics were picked by tracking six MEV-014 papers from June 2023 to December 2025, not by guesswork or old notes.
Each answer stays near 250 words, exactly the length a 10-mark MEV-014 question needs in a 3-hour, 100-mark exam paper.
Textbook definitions and exact list counts, like FAO's four strategies and nine planning steps, taken from the SLM.
Split questions such as 5+5, 2+8 and 3+7 are answered part by part, so evaluators can mark each portion quickly.
Indian examples in every answer: Khetri copper belt, Kolar gold fields, Gir and Sahiwal breeds and the IWMP scheme.
Works for MSCENV, MAEOH, MAEVS and PGDEVS learners, since all four programmes study the same MEV-014 course code.

Course Overview

MEV 14 Solved Guess Paper is a 14-question answer set for IGNOU's Sustainable Natural Resource Management course, prepared for the December 2026 Term-End Examination. Each answer runs close to 250 words, which is what a 10-mark question actually needs, and it follows the wording of the IGNOU study material so you can write it back without rephrasing.

We did not pick these questions at random. Our team went through six MEV-014 papers, from June 2023 to December 2025, and marked every topic each time it came up. Seven topics appeared in every single session, so those got complete, book-accurate answers first.

What You Get in the MEV 14 Solved Guess Paper

The file contains 14 solved questions spread over all four MEV-014 blocks, each answered in about 250 words and tied to the unit it comes from.

Every question page follows the same logic an evaluator uses. You see the block it belongs to, the sessions where the topic last appeared, the question in IGNOU's own style, and the marks split. The answer then opens with a definition, moves through numbered points and ends with a two-line conclusion.

The last two pages are there to save you time. One sets out the exam rules, what not to over-prepare and what evaluators look for. The other is the six-session frequency table, so you can see why a topic made the cut instead of taking our word for it.

MEV 14 Solved Guess Paper Sample Questions with Answers

Five of the 14 questions are reproduced here in full, covering all four blocks, so you can judge the quality of the answers before you order.

Read one out loud and time yourself. If it fits comfortably inside 17 minutes and still reads like a complete answer, the other nine in the file are written the same way.

Sample 1 of 5Guess paper Q1Block 1: Natural Resources10 marks

Give an account of natural resources, their types, valuation and use of natural resources.

Meaning of Natural Resources

A resource produced in nature and utilised by humans is known as a natural resource. It includes air, water, soil, minerals, flora and fauna, and energy goods that serve human requirements.

Classification of Natural Resources

On the basis of origin, resources are divided into biotic and abiotic. On the basis of availability, they are inexhaustible or exhaustible.

  1. Biotic resources: obtained from the biosphere, such as forests and their products, fauna, and minerals formed from decayed organic matter.
  2. Abiotic resources: non-living things such as land, water, air and minerals like gold, iron, copper and silver.
  3. Inexhaustible resources: available on earth in infinite amount, such as solar energy, wind power, tide power, rainfall and atomic energy.
  4. Exhaustible resources: a finite stock that can drain if used unsystematically. These are sub-divided into renewable (forests, rangelands, wildlife, farming systems, marine and freshwater systems, soil and water) and non-renewable (coal, oil, gas, metals and nuclear energy).

Valuation and Use

Six natural resources contribute considerably to human welfare: land, water, forests, minerals, food and energy. Their availability depends on physical factors like land, climate and altitude, so they are scattered unevenly across the globe.

Conclusion: Natural resources are essential for human survival and development. Since they are limited, they must be used judiciously and conserved for future generations.

Sample 2 of 5Guess paper Q5Block 2: Biotic Resources5 + 5 marks

Identify the productive and protective role of forests. What is deforestation? Give major causes and consequences of deforestation.

Role of Forests

Forests are among the most important natural resources of this planet. They cover the earth like a green blanket and provide both tangible goods and intangible environmental benefits.

Productive Role

  1. Timber: raw material for construction, furniture, paper, plywood and other wood-based industries.
  2. Non-timber forest products: gums, resins, beedi leaf, medicinal plants, bamboo and grasses that support tribal life.
  3. Fodder: forests meet about 30% of India's fodder requirement through grazing lands.

Protective Role

Forests are a natural habitat for biodiversity and a store of genetic wealth. They also provide carbon sequestration, soil conservation, reduced erosion, recreation and ecotourism.

Major Causes of Deforestation

Shifting cultivation, fuel requirements, raw materials for industry, development projects such as dams, roads and mining, growing food needs, and overgrazing.

Major Consequences

  1. Landslides in hilly regions.
  2. Soil erosion and loss of fertility.
  3. Disruption of the hydrological cycle and rainfall.
  4. Loss of biodiversity and genetic diversity.
  5. Threat to wildlife habitat.
  6. Loss, migration and extinction of tribal culture and people.

Conclusion: Deforestation is alarming in tropical countries. At present rates, over 90% of tropical forests may be lost in 60 years, which makes conservation urgent.

Sample 3 of 5Guess paper Q9Block 3: Energy Resources10 marks

Describe energy resources and give their classification with suitable examples.

Meaning of Energy Resources

Energy is one of the most important components of economic infrastructure, and energy resources are necessary for the existence of mankind. Fossil fuels provide 85 to 90% of the energy demand of the industrialised world.

Classification of Energy Resources

  1. Primary and secondary: primary sources are extracted directly (biomass, hydropower, wind, solar, nuclear, fossil fuels). Secondary sources are converted forms such as electricity.
  2. Perpetual and non-continuous: perpetual sources remain available indefinitely (solar, wind, geothermal, wave). Non-continuous sources do not (fossil fuels, hydroelectric power).
  3. Commercial and non-commercial: commercial sources are sold at a price (fossil fuel, electricity). Non-commercial sources are traditional fuels (firewood, biomass, cow dung).
  4. Renewable and non-renewable: renewable sources replenish over a short span and pollute less (hydroelectric, solar, wind, biomass). Non-renewable sources take millions of years to form (coal, oil, gas, uranium, thorium).

Conclusion: Fossil fuels are limited and polluting, and the gap between energy demand and supply is widening, so there is a pressing need to switch to new and renewable energy sources.

Sample 4 of 5Guess paper Q12Block 3: Energy Resources3 + 7 marks

What is bioenergy? Describe its major forms, feedstock sources and conversion technologies for bioenergy production.

Meaning of Bioenergy

Biomass is material directly or indirectly produced by photosynthesis and used as a feedstock to make fuels. Bioenergy is a clean and green source of energy derived from biomass.

Traditional bioenergy uses solid biomass such as wood, charcoal, residues and dung with low efficiency. Modern bioenergy uses solids, liquids and gases with higher conversion efficiency.

Major Forms of Bioenergy

  1. Biopower: heat and electricity generated by burning biomass, including co-firing in coal plants.
  2. Biogas: gas from anaerobic fermentation, mainly methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂). India, Germany and China lead production.
  3. Biofuels: solid, liquid and gas fuels. Bioethanol and biodiesel are the major forms, with first-generation fuels from food crops and advanced second- and third-generation fuels from non-edible biomass.

Feedstock Sources

Forest-based, agriculture-based and waste-based feedstocks.

Conversion Technologies

Biomass is converted through direct combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction, fermentation and anaerobic digestion to produce heat, power and transport fuels.

Conclusion: Bioenergy is a renewable, clean alternative to fossil fuels. India's National Policy on Biofuels promotes it for fuel security and rural growth.

Sample 5 of 5Guess paper Q13Block 4: Natural Resource Conservation and Management5 + 5 marks

Explain natural resource conservation and natural resource accounting. Discuss the phases and steps in natural resource planning.

Resource Conservation

Resource conservation is the process of using resources carefully, giving them protection and time to rejuvenate, so that they benefit both present and future generations.

Resources must be conserved to:

  1. Maintain natural balance.
  2. Safeguard plant and animal species.
  3. Ensure availability for present and future generations.
  4. Meet demand and maintain living standards.
  5. Provide aesthetic benefits.
  6. Respect every species' inherent right to survive.

Natural Resource Accounting (NRA)

Natural resource accounting is the collection and organisation of data on natural resources in terms of stocks and flows, within an accounting framework. Also called green accounting, it covers forests, minerals, agricultural land, fisheries, petroleum and water, using both physical units and monetary values.

Nine Steps in Resource Planning

  1. Identify problems and opportunities.
  2. Determine objectives.
  3. Take an inventory of resources.
  4. Analyse the resource data.
  5. Formulate alternatives.
  6. Evaluate alternatives.
  7. Make decisions and choose the best plan.
  8. Implement the plan.
  9. Evaluate the plan.

Conclusion: Planning, accounting and economics together enable proper management of natural resources, preventing degradation and supporting sustainable development.

MEV 14 Exam Pattern and Answer Writing Method

The MEV-014 Term-End Examination is 3 hours long and carries 100 marks. You answer any ten questions, all of equal value, so every answer is worth 10 marks.

That works out to roughly 17 minutes per answer once you set aside ten minutes to read the paper. Most learners lose marks not on knowledge but on time, spending 30 minutes on a favourite topic and rushing the last three.

A Five-Step Answer Structure That Evaluators Reward

  1. Open with a one-line definition in the textbook's own terms.
  2. Answer each part of a split question under its own small heading.
  3. Use the book's exact counts, such as six causes or nine steps.
  4. Add one Indian example per point: a state, a scheme, a breed or a fuel.
  5. Close with two lines linking the topic to sustainable development.

A 7-Day MEV-014 Revision Plan

  1. Day 1: Block 1 answers, Q1 to Q4.
  2. Day 2: Block 2 answers, Q5 to Q8.
  3. Day 3: Block 3 answers, Q9 to Q12.
  4. Day 4: Block 4 answers, Q13 and Q14, plus a quick read of Unit 16.
  5. Day 5: Write the seven six-of-six topics from memory, 17 minutes each.
  6. Day 6: Revise livestock, wildlife, hydropower and green technologies.
  7. Day 7: Sit a full mock of ten questions in 3 hours.

Skip state-by-state mine lists, full cattle breed strains and heavy data tables. Evaluators on this paper reward clear concepts and correct list counts far more than memorised figures.
