MMPC 004 Solved Guess Paper is a 24-question, 27-page answer file for IGNOU's Accounting for Managers course, prepared for the December 2026 term-end exam. Our team lined up six papers, December 2023 to June 2026, and noted which questions returned and in what form.
The pattern is easy to see once the papers sit side by side. A short-note question on accounting concepts came in all six sessions, and a break-even or CVP numerical came in five. Each answer is written from the IGNOU MMPC-004 book in plain English: definition first, book headings next, and a two-line conclusion.
You can read five complete answers below before paying anything. If the style suits you, the full file with all 24 answers comes on WhatsApp at 9899436384.
1. What the MMPC 004 Solved Guess Paper Gives You
The file holds 24 solved questions across all five MMPC-004 blocks: three full numerical questions on break-even, CVP and variances, and 21 theory answers, some with worked examples.
Each answer card shows the block and unit, the sessions it came in, a priority tag, and a word target: about 450 words for a 20-mark answer, 250 for each 10-mark part and 150 for a 5-mark note. Numericals are judged on working, not word count, so they carry the full method instead.
Three short-note sets cover eight accounting concepts plus consistency, classification of accounts, inventory valuation and cost of goods sold. Three answers are split into 10 + 10 parts, the way IGNOU often sets performance budgeting, DuPont analysis and common-size statements.
The last pages matter as much as the answers. A rules page explains the paper, a skip list names topics absent from all six papers, such as full trial-balance problems and overhead variances, and a note flags two past numericals where the printed data does not add up.
If you are collecting files for more than one course, our IGNOU Solved Guess Paper section lists every code we have prepared so far, each built the same way from past papers.
2. MMPC 004 Solved Sample Questions
Five of the 24 answers are shown here in full, taken from topics that keep returning: accounting concepts, cash flow, Activity Based Costing, Human Resource Accounting and break-even.
Samples are numbered 1 to 5 for this page. The chips on each card show where the answer sits in the full file, which block and unit it comes from, and the sessions in which IGNOU asked it.
Short notes on four accounting concepts
Question: Write short notes on: (a) Business Entity concept (b) Money Measurement concept (c) Continuity concept (d) Accrual concept.
(a) Business Entity Concept
In accounting we make a distinction between business and the owner. All the records are kept from the viewpoint of the business rather than from that of the owner.
- Separate unit: the business is treated as separate from its owner, so its transactions are recorded apart from the owner's own dealings.
- Example: if the owner takes cash from the shop for personal use, the books show that business cash has gone down. Cash brought in gives the owner a claim as capital.
- Company vs small firm: a company is a separate legal person. In a partnership or one-man business the line is harder, but accounting still keeps it.
- Personal expenses kept out: the owner's food, clothing, household costs and personal debts never enter the business books.
- Why it is needed: it lets owners judge how well managers have used the funds given to them.
(b) Money Measurement Concept
In accounting, only those facts which can be expressed in terms of money are recorded.
- Common denominator: money lets unlike things be added. Five buildings, ten machines and six trucks cannot be totalled without it.
- First limitation: non-money facts such as the managing director's health or a coming strike are left out, so the picture is incomplete.
- Second limitation: a rupee today is treated as equal to a rupee ten years back, so inflation is not shown in the books.
(c) Continuity Concept
Accounting assumes that the business (an accounting entity) will continue to operate for a long time in the future unless there is good evidence to the contrary.
- Going concern: the firm is seen as running in the foreseeable future, with no plan or need to wind up.
- Assets at cost: because the business will continue, unused resources are shown at cost, not market value.
- Base for depreciation: spreading an asset's cost over its life rests on this concept.
- Exception: if the business is likely to close within a year or two, assets may be shown at liquidation values.
(d) Accrual Concept
The accrual concept makes a distinction between the receipt of cash and the right to receive it, and the payment of cash and the legal obligation to pay it.
- Revenue: once the right to receive has arisen, revenue is recorded even if cash comes later.
- Expenses: only sums that are due and payable are expenses of the period.
- Advance payment: money paid in advance is not an expense; the receiver is shown as a debtor.
- Outstanding expense: an expense incurred but unpaid is still recorded, and the person to be paid is a creditor.
Conclusion: these are basic assumptions, and changing any one of them changes the nature of accounting information.
Cash flow statement: structure, objectives and activities
Question: What is a Cash Flow Statement? Explain its basic structure, objectives and benefits. Explain how it groups cash flows into activities, with two examples of each.
The cash flow statement of an enterprise provides information about the historical changes in cash and cash equivalents by classifying all cash flows derived from operating, investing and financing activities.
AS-3 makes the statement compulsory for all listed companies. It follows a simple three-part layout:
| Line | What it shows |
|---|---|
| (A) Operating activities | Net cash from the firm's main revenue-earning work |
| (B) Investing activities | Cash spent on or received from long-term assets |
| (C) Financing activities | Cash raised from or returned to owners and lenders |
| A + B + C | Net increase or decrease in cash for the period |
| Plus opening cash | Gives closing cash and cash equivalents, matching the balance sheet |
Objectives
- Future policies: helps frame the firm's financial policies.
- Major expenses: shows the extent of large cash outlays.
- Cash requirement: works out the cash needed for a period.
- Reasons: explains why there was a net inflow or outflow.
- Financial strength: helps predict the company's strength.
Benefits
- Highlights liquidity: shows whether dues can be paid on time.
- Helps cash management: supports estimates of future receipts and payments.
- Optimal cash balance: reveals idle or short cash to invest or borrow.
- Comparability: allows fair comparison of cash performance between companies.
- Indicates the future: past cash flows help forecast future ones.
| Activity | Cash inflows | Cash outflows |
|---|---|---|
| Operating | Receipts from sale of goods and services; royalties, fees, commissions | Payments to suppliers; payments to employees |
| Investing | Sale of fixed assets; interest and dividend received | Purchase of fixed assets; loans made to third parties |
| Financing | Issue of shares; issue of debentures or loans | Repayment of borrowings; dividends paid |
Conclusion: the statement shows where cash came from and where it went, activity by activity.
Activity Based Costing vs traditional costing
Question: What is Activity Based Costing? Differentiate it from traditional costing. Discuss its objectives, merits and demerits, and outline the stages of implementing ABC.
An approach to the costing and monitoring of activities which involves tracing resource consumption and costing final outputs. (CIMA, UK)
ABC first traces costs to activities and then to products, on the idea that activities cause costs. Kaplan and Bruns first defined it in the 1980s.
| Point | Activity Based Costing | Traditional costing |
|---|---|---|
| Overhead allotment | Through several cost pools and activities | On a single overhead rate |
| Best suited to | Technology-driven manufacturing | Labour-driven manufacturing |
| Overhead behaviour | Overheads rise because products use different activities | Overheads rise with factors like labour hours |
Objectives
- Identify all activities in production, including value-adding ones.
- Eliminate non value-adding activities.
- Put emphasis on high-cost activities.
- Include activities based on distribution overheads.
- Help fix a suitable price for products and services.
- Ensure accurate and precise product cost.
- Find ways to improve processes and reduce costs.
Merits and demerits
Merits: it removes cross subsidisation, handles complicated linked processes, prices customised products correctly and makes cost-saving chances easier to spot. Demerits: it is complex, needs deep knowledge of products and processes, needs sophisticated IT, takes time and effort, and heavy technology use raises indirect costs.
Stages of ABC
Stage 1 traces cost to activities; Stage 2 traces activities to products. The steps are:
- Identify activities by studying the manufacturing process.
- Classify cost drivers, the factors that change an activity's cost.
- Identify cost pools holding the total cost of each activity.
- Charge costs to products using driver rates.
Conclusion: ABC gives more accurate product costs and suits large, multi-product firms; small firms may keep the simpler traditional method.
Human Resource Accounting as a management decision tool
Question: What is Human Resource Accounting (HRA)? Describe how HRA can be used as a management decision tool.
The basic premise of HRA is that expenses related to the development of human resources are capital expenses. They should be treated as an asset because the gains from Human Resource development are going to accrue to the organisation for a considerable period of time.
Why HRA is needed
- No link with profit: managers believe people raise profit, but no direct link to the bottom line is shown.
- Wrong treatment: HR spending is booked as revenue expenditure, so its benefit is never measured.
- Accountability: management now wants proof of value before funding the HR department.
- Two kinds of methods: HRA values people either on the basis of cost or on the basis of value.
HRA in management decisions
Wealth maximisation needs allocation of resources, and allocation needs numbers. Without them, decisions about people may be sub-optimal.
- Investment decision: HR data in money form influences outside investors and creditors far more than non-financial data.
- Human resource planning: HRA figures build a recruitment cost matrix and guide turnover, layoff and selection choices.
- Performance management: recruitment, hiring and training costs feed replacement-cost estimates.
- Training and development: the cost of alternative programmes is compared to pick the best one.
- Compensation: a fair, transparent pay structure can reflect each person's value to the organisation.
Limitation: it is not yet proven that HRA data always leads to better decisions, and objective money values for items like employee turnover are hard to fix.
Conclusion: HRA treats people as assets and supports investment, planning, training and pay decisions with numbers instead of guesswork.
Break-even analysis with solved numericals
Question: (a) What is Break-Even Analysis and how does it help managers? (b) Price ₹100 per unit, variable cost ₹80, fixed expenses ₹10,000. Find BEP in units and value, profit at 620 units, and sales for ₹10,000 profit. (c) Find break-even sales when Sales = ₹2,00,000, Variable Cost = ₹1,20,000 and Fixed Cost = ₹50,000.
The term Break-even Analysis refers to a system of determination of that level of activity where total cost equals total selling price.
In a broader sense it finds the probable profit at any activity level. Because it links cost, volume, profit and sales, it is also called Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) analysis. The break-even point is a no profit, no loss point.
How it helps managers
- Profit forecasting with reasonable accuracy.
- Flexible budgets showing cost, sales and profit at each activity level.
- Performance evaluation for control.
- Price policy: the effect of different prices on profit.
- Overhead rates at different levels of operation.
| Item | Formula |
|---|---|
| Contribution | Sales minus Variable Cost (also Fixed Cost plus Profit) |
| P/V ratio | Contribution ÷ Sales × 100 |
| BEP in units | Fixed Cost ÷ Contribution per unit |
| BEP in rupees | Fixed Cost ÷ P/V ratio |
| Sales for desired profit | (Fixed Cost + Desired Profit) ÷ P/V ratio |
| Margin of safety | Actual Sales minus Break-even Sales |
Numerical (b): solution
Contribution per unit = 100 − 80 = ₹20; P/V ratio = 20 ÷ 100 = 20%
- BEP (units) = 10,000 ÷ 20 = 500 units
- BEP (value) = 10,000 ÷ 20% = ₹50,000 (check: 500 × 100)
- Profit at 620 units = (620 × 20) − 10,000 = 12,400 − 10,000 = ₹2,400
- Sales for ₹10,000 profit = (10,000 + 10,000) ÷ 20% = ₹1,00,000 (1,000 units)
Numerical (c): solution
Contribution = 2,00,000 − 1,20,000 = ₹80,000
P/V ratio = 80,000 ÷ 2,00,000 × 100 = 40%
Break-even sales = 50,000 ÷ 40% = ₹1,25,000
Margin of safety = 2,00,000 − 1,25,000 = ₹75,000
Conclusion: break-even analysis tells managers the minimum sales needed to avoid a loss. Write the formula first, then each step, and box the final answer.

Notice how the Accounting for Managers Important Questions cluster. Five topics carry most of the marks, and a learner who masters them plus one numerical type can already cover the five answers the paper asks for.
To see the exact wording of these questions, open the papers on our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper page and keep them next to this table while you revise.
4. MMPC 004 Exam Pattern and How to Split Three Hours
The MMPC-004 term-end exam runs for 3 hours and carries 100 marks, which count for 70% of the course result; you attempt any five questions and every question carries equal marks. You can confirm this on the official December 2025 MMPC-004 paper published by IGNOU.
Five equal questions means 20 marks each and roughly 33 minutes per answer, with 15 minutes left to read the paper and check figures. The plan below is the one our file is written for.
| Question type | Marks | Time | What to write |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short notes on concepts | 4 × 5 | 35 min | Book definition in quotes, then three or four numbered points per concept |
| Full theory question | 20 | 33 min | Definition, book sub-headings, a difference table if asked, two-line conclusion |
| Split question | 10 + 10 | 33 min | Two mini answers of about 250 words, each with its own definition |
| CVP or variance numerical | 20 | 30 min | Formula, substitution, boxed answer with F or A, and a check line |
| Reading and checking | — | 15 min | Choose five questions, then recheck every total in the numerical |
In all six papers analysed, the last question was a numerical: a CVP or break-even sum in five papers and a variance sum in two, with December 2023 carrying the variance sum instead of CVP. Numericals give exact marks when the method is right, so attempt that one first while your mind is fresh.
Older papers up to June 2023 often opened with a trial-balance final-accounts problem. None of the six recent papers has repeated it, which is why the file spends its pages on concepts, costing and analysis rather than full ledger work.
5. MMPC 004 Blocks, Units and Key Topics
MMPC-004 Accounting for Managers is a 4-credit core course in IGNOU's MBA, taught through 5 blocks and 16 units that move from bookkeeping to costing, budgeting, statement analysis and forensic accounting. The unit list below follows the official MMPC-004 course page on eGyanKosh.

7. Which IGNOU Programmes Study MMPC 004
MMPC-004 is a common core course, so one guess paper serves learners across IGNOU's MBA family and the finance diploma.
| Programme code | Programme name |
|---|---|
| MBA / MBAOL | Master of Business Administration (General / Online) |
| MBF | Master of Business Administration (Banking and Finance) |
| MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM, MBAOM | Specialised MBA streams in Financial, Human Resource, Marketing and Operations Management |
| PGDIFM | Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management |
The December 2025 paper was also printed for MBA (Health Care and Hospital Management), MBA (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) and MBA (Construction Management), so learners in those streams sit the same paper.
Finance-stream learners usually take MMPC-004 alongside other number-heavy codes. Our MBAFM Guess Paper collection groups those files so you can order a whole semester in one message.
The file suits three kinds of learners best: working professionals with little time, arts and science graduates meeting debit and credit for the first time, and repeaters who need to clear the course in December.

9. MMPC 004 Guess Paper FAQs
Is the MMPC 004 guess paper enough to pass Accounting for Managers?
It covers every topic that appeared in the six papers from December 2023 to June 2026, and you only need to attempt five questions. Learn the short-note concepts and the break-even method first, since they came in almost every paper. Read the IGNOU blocks once as well, because examiners sometimes change the wording or combine two units in one question.
Which MMPC 004 questions come in almost every exam?
Short notes on accounting concepts came in all six papers analysed, and a break-even or CVP numerical came in five of them. The annual report came in four papers. Cash flow statement, Activity Based Costing, zero base budgeting, Human Resource Accounting and forensic accounting each came three times, so they are the next priority after the first two.
How many questions does the MMPC 004 guess paper contain?
The full file has 24 solved questions across 27 pages, mapped to all five blocks. 5 of them are shown in full on this page so you can judge the writing style, and the remaining 19 come in the paid PDF. It also includes the exam rules page, a list of topics to skip and a topic frequency grid.
Are the MMPC 004 numericals solved step by step?
Yes. Every numerical shows the formula, the substitution, the answer with units or F and A marks, and a check line that proves the parts add up. The file solves the break-even sum, three CVP sums from June 2024, June 2025 and December 2024, and material and labour variance problems. That order matches how IGNOU examiners award step marks in the term-end exam.
What is the MMPC 004 exam pattern?
The MMPC-004 term-end exam lasts three hours and carries 100 marks, which count for 70 percent of the course result. The assignment carries the other 30 percent. You attempt any five questions and all carry equal marks, so each is worth 20. In every paper analysed, the last question was a numerical on CVP or variances.
Does MMPC 004 have a practical file?
No. MMPC-004 Accounting for Managers has no practical, lab or project component. It is assessed through one tutor-marked assignment and the term-end exam only. That is why this page shows the full question-wise index of the guess paper instead, so you can see every topic the complete file covers before you place an order on WhatsApp.
Is the MMPC 004 guess paper useful for MBAFM and PGDIFM students?
Yes. MMPC-004 is a common core course, so the same question paper is set for IGNOU MBA, MBAOL, MBF, MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM and MBAOM learners, and PGDIFM uses the same course. The answers follow the one IGNOU textbook that all these programmes share, so nothing in the file needs changing for your particular stream or elective.
How do I get the full MMPC 004 guess paper?
Send a WhatsApp message to 9899436384 with the course code MMPC 004. Our team replies with the price and payment details, and the full 27-page PDF with all 24 solved questions reaches you on WhatsApp after payment. 10. Who Prepared the MMPC 004 Answers
The MMPC-004 answers were written by Prateek Talwar and reviewed by Sheetal Kirola of the Unnati Educations team. Prateek matched each answer to the IGNOU textbook and the six past papers, and Sheetal checked every definition, date and figure.
Each numerical in the IGNOU MMPC 004 Solved Guess Paper was reworked by hand before release, and every check line was confirmed to balance. Unnati Educations is based in Vikaspuri, Delhi, and prepares exam material for IGNOU, NIOS and other university learners.
