Value Highlights

MMPF 007 Solved Guess Paper covers 24 exam-style questions, each answered in about 450 words for the 20-mark format.
Built from four IGNOU papers, December 2024 to June 2026, so every priority tag reflects what examiners actually repeat.
Formulas worked step by step: Sharpe, Treynor, portfolio risk, RSI and Stochastic, with numbers you can check yourself.
All 14 units of Equity Markets mapped to questions, so you always know which block a likely question is coming from.
Each answer opens with the textbook definition, then numbered points and a short conclusion, the way evaluators mark.
Covers the SEBI topics students dread most: circuit breakers, margining, market surveillance, IPEF and book building.
Written by a Company Secretary and reviewed by our Academic Head, in plain English that is quick to revise before exams.

  • Programmes: MBA, MBA Online (MBAOL), MBA in Financial Management (MBAFM, Semester IV)
  • Syllabus: 5 blocks, 14 units
  • Exam pattern: 3 hours, 100 marks, 8 questions, attempt any 5, 20 marks each

  • Guess paper: 24 solved questions, 28 pages, 5 shown on this page, 19 more in the full file
  • Target exam: December 2026 term-end examination

MMPF 007 Solved Guess Paper is a 28-page answer file for IGNOU's Equity Markets course, built for the December 2026 term-end exam. It holds 24 likely questions, each answered in about 450 words, picked after we went through the last four MMPF-007 papers from December 2024 to June 2026 and marked every topic that came back.

Equity Markets is the course where MBA finance learners lose marks on things they half understand: why book building caps the price band at 120 per cent of the floor, what happens when the Sensex falls 15 per cent before 1 pm, or how a Treynor ratio differs from a Sharpe ratio. The file answers these in plain English, with the working shown.

1. What the December 2026 MMPF 007 File Contains

The file contains 24 solved questions from all 5 blocks of MMPF-007, a four-paper frequency table, and a short exam-strategy page. Every answer is sized for a 20-mark question, which is the only question type the last four papers used.

Each question carries three tags: its priority (high, medium or low), the block and unit it comes from, and the sessions in which that topic last appeared. So when you have only three evenings left, you can open the file and see straight away that order types, book building and technical analysis deserve more time than, say, AIFs.

The answers stay inside the IGNOU textbook. Definitions are in the book's own words, point counts match the book (seven order types, nine macro-economic factors, six Dow Theory components), and numerical examples use the same figures the units use, so nothing on your answer sheet looks borrowed from somewhere else.

If you are collecting files for more than one course this term, our full shelf of IGNOU Solved Guess Paper titles follows the same format, so switching between subjects the night before feels familiar.

2. Five MMPF 007 Sample Questions with Full Answers

Below are five complete answers taken from the file, one from each block of MMPF-007, so you can judge the quality before you ask for the rest. They are shown exactly as a 20-mark answer should be laid out. The remaining 19 answers follow the same pattern.

Sample 1 of 5File Q5Block 1, Unit 220 marksHIGH priority, last asked June 2025

Risk appetite, risk-return trade-off and risk measurement

Question: What do you understand by Risk Appetite and Risk Return Trade-off? Explain any four techniques of risk measurement.

Risk-return trade-off means potential return rises as risk rises. Low risk gives low potential return; high risk gives high potential return. If an index fund earns 12 per cent over the long run and risk-free government securities earn 8 per cent, the extra 4 per cent is the risk premium.

Risk appetite (risk tolerance) is an investor's capacity to take risk. A risk-averse investor accepts lower returns for known risk and buys government bonds, T-bills, post office deposits and fixed deposits. A risk-taker accepts extra risk for extra return. A risk-neutral investor deliberately ignores risk and looks only at expected return.

Techniques of risk measurement

  1. Variance and standard deviation: the most common measures. σ² = Σ(Ri − R̄)² / (n − 1). For returns of 16, 12, 20, −13, 15 and 10 (mean 10), Σ(Ri − R̄)² = 694, so σ² = 694 / 5 = 138.8 and σ = 11.78 per cent.
  2. Sharpe ratio: excess return over the risk-free rate per unit of standard deviation, (rp − rf) / σp. A fund returning 20 per cent with a risk-free rate of 10 per cent and σ of 8 per cent scores (20 − 10) / 8 = 1.25.
  3. Treynor ratio: the same idea using beta, (rp − rf) / βp. Portfolio A: (12 − 9) / 0.7 = 4.29. Portfolio B: (14 − 9) / 1.2 = 4.17. Portfolio A gives the better reward per unit of market risk even though B has the higher raw return.
  4. Value at Risk (VaR): the likely maximum loss over a set period at a given confidence level, estimated by the historical, variance-covariance or Monte Carlo method.

Conclusion: higher return needs higher risk, so every investor must know whether they are averse, a taker or neutral. Standard deviation, Sharpe, Treynor and VaR put a number on that risk.

Sample 2 of 5File Q10Block 2, Unit 420 marksHIGH priority, asked June 2025 and June 2026

Book building: steps, benefits and limitations

Question: What is Book Building? Explain the steps leading to issue of equity shares using the book building process. Discuss the benefits and limitations of book building method.

Book building is the SEBI-defined process of collecting investor bids within a price band and fixing the issue price from those bids. The cap of the band cannot exceed 120 per cent of the floor price.

Steps in the book building process

  1. Appoint the book runner: a SEBI-registered merchant banker acts as lead manager.
  2. File draft documents: prospectus, due diligence certificate, board resolution and shareholder approval go to SEBI.
  3. Fix the price band: disclosed at least 2 working days before an IPO (1 day for an FPO) if not in the prospectus.
  4. Invite quotes: syndicate members collect bids and build the book.
  5. Advertise: the bid window usually stays open for five business days.
  6. Fix the cut-off price and allocation with the book runner.
  7. Limit allotment to any single investor to avoid a takeover threat.
  8. File the final prospectus with the Registrar of Companies.
  9. Open the placement portion, only after the RoC filing.
  10. Close the placement portion a day before the public portion opens.
  11. Allot the public portion at the same price, proportionately if oversubscribed.

In a 100 per cent book-built issue, retail individual investors get at least 35 per cent, non-institutional investors at least 15 per cent, and qualified institutional buyers not more than 50 per cent.

Benefits: real price discovery from actual demand, better subscription with less devolvement, and a reliable price benchmark. Limitations: no two-way quote system as in the US, heavy reliance on reputation and peer pressure, and a thin syndicate whose price may not suit retail investors.

Conclusion: book building lets demand set the price, which gives fairer pricing and fewer failed issues, though the Indian version still has gaps.

Sample 3 of 5File Q11Block 3, Unit 620 marksHIGH priority, asked June 2025 and December 2025

Order execution, types of orders and settlement

Question: What is an Order Execution System? Describe different types of orders. Explain the settlement procedure of transactions executed on the exchange.

The order execution system is the trading engine matching the best buy quote with the best sell quote on price-time priority. An order that finds a match trades at once; one that does not waits in the order book as a passive order.

Types of orders

  1. Market order: executes immediately at the best available price.
  2. Limit order: a buy limit fills at that price or lower, a sell limit at that price or higher.
  3. Stop loss order: becomes a market order once its trigger price is hit.
  4. Market if touched: turns into a market order when a set price is reached.
  5. Day order: expires at the close if not executed.
  6. Good till cancelled: stays live until executed or cancelled, up to six months.
  7. Immediate or cancel: must execute at once or is withdrawn.

Settlement: clearing works out each member's obligations; settlement is the actual transfer of funds and securities, netted multilaterally and completed on T+1. The steps run from trade download to the clearing corporation, confirmation and netting, pay-in advice, instructions to clearing banks and depositories, pay-in of securities and funds, pay-out of securities and funds, and finally confirmation to custodians through depository participants and clearing banks.

If securities are not delivered, the clearing house holds a buy-in auction. Through novation the clearing corporation becomes buyer to every seller and seller to every buyer, which removes counterparty risk.

Conclusion: orders match on price-time priority, seven order types serve different needs, and settlement completes in eleven steps on T+1.

Sample 4 of 5File Q17Block 4, Unit 1020 marksHIGH priority, asked in 3 of 4 papers

Technical analysis: evolution, assumptions and limitations

Question: What is Technical Analysis? How has it evolved? Discuss the assumptions and limitations of Technical Analysis.

Technical analysis is the in-depth study of price and volume data for a stock or index to predict future price behaviour. It uses only market data such as price, volume, 52-week high and low, and open interest.

Evolution: it traces back to ancient Greek marketplaces, then Joseph de la Vega's account of 17th-century Amsterdam trading, Homma Munehisa's candlestick work on Japanese rice prices in the 18th century, Chinese trading manuals, Charles Dow's Dow Theory from 1896, and Ralph Nelson Elliott's wave theory in the 1930s, later revived by Robert Prechter.

Assumptions: the market prices in all public information; prices move in trends; history tends to repeat because people react the same way; supply and demand decide value; and shifts in supply and demand show up as trend changes on charts.

Limitations: chart reading is subjective, so a signal may be noise; methods like Dow Theory react late; history never repeats exactly; two analysts can read the same chart differently; and indicators often contradict each other.

Conclusion: technical analysis times entry and exit from market data alone. Most investors use it alongside fundamental analysis rather than instead of it.

Sample 5 of 5File Q22Block 5, Unit 1320 marksHIGH priority, asked June 2025 and December 2025

Mutual funds: concept, structure, benefits and drawbacks

Question: Explain the concept of Mutual Funds. Describe the structure of Mutual Funds in India. Discuss the important benefits and disadvantages of investing through Mutual Funds route.

A mutual fund pools the savings of many investors and invests the total in securities such as shares or bonds according to the scheme's objective. Investors hold units. The idea reached India in 1964 with the Unit Trust of India's US-64 scheme.

Structure: the sponsor seeks SEBI approval; a public trust is formed under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, and its trustees protect unit holders; the asset management company runs the schemes. SBI, SBI Mutual Fund Trustee Company and SBI Funds Management are the three layers in one real example. Custodians, registrar and transfer agents such as CAMS, distributors, auditors and SEBI-licensed brokers complete the set-up.

Benefits: professional management, diversification, SEBI regulation, easy liquidity at NAV, lower risk, flexibility to switch schemes, lower costs through scale, and less emotional stress than trading yourself.

Drawbacks: management costs come out of investors' money, exit loads act like a lock-in, and diversification dilutes gains along with losses.

Conclusion: a mutual fund turns small savings into professionally managed portfolios. For an informed investor, eight benefits usually outweigh three drawbacks.

3. MMPF 007 Important Questions: The Four-Paper Repeat Pattern

Nine MMPF-007 topics appeared in two or more of the last four papers, and financial markets appeared in three. We read the December 2024, June 2025, December 2025 and June 2026 papers side by side and grouped questions by topic family, because IGNOU rarely repeats the exact wording but often repeats the idea.

The June 2026 paper leaned towards the market side of the course: financial markets, primary markets, book building, market surveillance, economic analysis, oscillators, stock indices and investment philosophies. December papers have tended to pull more from risk, capital raising and SEBI protection, which is why those carry high or medium tags for December 2026.

Four areas have not been asked at all in these four sessions: rights issues and private placement, company analysis ratios, the efficient frontier, and the ICDR regulatory framework. They are backups, not priorities. You can cross-check every session yourself on our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper page before you trust any pattern, ours included.

4. MMPF 007 Syllabus: 14 Units and What Each Tests

5. Full MMPF 007 Guess Paper Index (and Why There Is No Practical File)

MMPF-007 is a theory course with no practical file, lab record or viva, so your whole grade rests on the term-end exam and assignments. That is why this index of all 24 questions is the most useful map you can have. Priorities are for the December 2026 session.

6. How MMPF 007 Answers Are Written to Score

Every MMPF-007 answer follows one pattern: definition first, then the book's headings with the exact number of points, then a two-line conclusion. Evaluators working through a stack of copies look for that structure, and it is far easier to recall under exam pressure than a loose, unplanned essay.

Most questions in this course have two or three parts, such as "what is", "describe" and "discuss". The file answers each part under its own heading, so you never miss half the marks by writing a long answer to only the first part. The paper sets no word limit, so we aimed for about 450 words, which fits comfortably in the 36 minutes you get per question.

Numbers matter in four places: risk measurement, portfolio risk, RSI and the Stochastic Oscillator. We checked each calculation line by line, and where the textbook gives a worked example we used its figures so your answer matches what the evaluator expects to see.

7. Who Needs the MMPF 007 Guess Paper: MBA, MBAOL and MBAFM

MMPF-007 Equity Markets is a finance course offered in IGNOU's MBA, MBA Online and MBA in Financial Management, where it sits in Semester IV. The syllabus and exam are the same whichever programme you are in, so one file serves all three.

IGNOU programmes that include MMPF 007 Equity Markets and what each learner should note
ProgrammeCodeHow MMPF 007 fits
Master of Business AdministrationMBAChosen as a finance specialisation course; check your registration slip for the exact code
Master of Business Administration (Online)MBAOLSame course and same term-end paper, with assignments submitted through the online portal
MBA in Financial ManagementMBAFMListed in Semester IV alongside the other specialised finance papers

MBAFM learners usually carry several finance papers into the same exam window, which makes timing tight. If that is you, the MBAFM guess Paper collection lets you plan all your Semester IV subjects together instead of one at a time.

8. A 10-Day MMPF 007 Revision Plan

Ten focused days are enough to cover all 24 answers if you study one block every two days and keep the last two days for formulas and recall. This plan follows the file's block order and puts high-priority questions first each day.

  1. Day 1: Q1 to Q3, financial system, money and capital markets, fund-based services.
  2. Day 2: Q4 and Q5, types of risk and the four measurement techniques with their numbers.
  3. Day 3: Q6 and Q7, equity vs debt tables and the GDR, ADR, IDR, FCCB and ECB list.
  4. Day 4: Q8 to Q10, public issue, merchant banker duties and the eleven book building steps.
  5. Day 5: Q11 to Q14, order types, settlement, surveillance, circuit breakers and IPEF.
  6. Day 6: Q15 and Q16, nine macro factors and the industry life cycle.
  7. Day 7: Q17 to Q19, technical analysis, Dow and Elliott, then the oscillators.
  8. Day 8: Q20 to Q24, portfolio risk, indices, mutual funds, AIFs and investment styles.
  9. Day 9: redo every calculation from memory: SD, Sharpe, Treynor, portfolio risk, RSI, Stochastic.
  10. Day 10: write out the definition and headings for each high-priority question without looking.

10. MMPF 007 Equity Markets FAQs

These are the eight questions MMPF-007 learners ask us most on WhatsApp, answered briefly. Each answer matches the details in the file and the exam pattern above.

What is the MMPF 007 Solved Guess Paper and who is it for?

It is a 28-page answer file for IGNOU's MMPF-007 Equity Markets course, prepared for the December 2026 term-end exam. It contains 24 likely questions with answers of about 450 words each, a frequency table built from four recent papers, and exam tips. It suits learners in the MBA, MBA Online and MBA in Financial Management programmes who want to revise the whole course quickly.

How many questions are in the IGNOU MMPF 007 guess paper?

The file has 24 solved questions spread across all 5 blocks and 13 of the 14 units of Equity Markets. Five of them, questions 5, 10, 11, 17 and 22, are shown in full on this page so you can check the quality. The remaining 19 answers, along with the frequency analysis and strategy page, come in the complete PDF shared on WhatsApp.

Which MMPF 007 important questions repeat most often?

Financial markets and their classification appeared in three of the last four papers, the most of any topic. Book building, order types and settlement, technical analysis, stock indices, mutual funds, investment philosophies, risk concepts and equity versus debt capital each appeared twice between December 2024 and June 2026. All nine repeat topics carry a high priority tag in the file for December 2026.

Is there a practical file for MMPF 007 Equity Markets?

No. MMPF-007 is a theory course, so there is no practical file, lab record or viva to prepare. Your result depends on assignments and the three-hour term-end exam, where you answer any five of eight questions carrying 20 marks each. That is why a solved guess paper with a clear question index is more useful here than any practical-style material would be.

How long should an MMPF 007 answer be in the term-end exam?

The MMPF-007 paper sets no word limit, but about 450 words works well for a 20-mark answer. You have roughly 36 minutes per question in a three-hour paper, which leaves time to write a definition, the numbered headings from the book and a short conclusion. Answer every part of a multi-part question under its own heading so none of the marks are missed.

Which formulas should I practise for MMPF 007 Equity Markets?

Practise standard deviation, the Sharpe ratio, the Treynor ratio, expected portfolio return, two-stock portfolio risk using correlation, RSI and the Stochastic Oscillator. These are the only calculations that appeared in recent MMPF-007 answers. The guess paper works each one with numbers, including the textbook's Nestle India examples for RSI and Stochastic, so you can repeat them in the exam hall.

Is the MMPF 007 guess paper enough to pass without the IGNOU book?

For most learners who study the file properly, it covers the questions most likely to appear in MMPF-007, since every answer is written from the official course book. It does not replace the book entirely. We suggest reading the unit behind any answer that feels unclear, and keeping the four never-asked areas, such as ICDR rules, as light backup reading.

How do I get the full MMPF 007 guess paper with answers?

Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with the text "MMPF 007 guess paper" and mention your programme and exam session. Our team confirms the course code, shares the price and sends the complete 28-page PDF after payment. You can ask for other IGNOU course files in the same chat, and we will send everything together so your revision starts the same day.
