MMPC 008 Solved Guess Paper for the June and December 2026 Term-End Examinations is a 15-page prepared file containing 12 expected questions with complete model answers, written for students of Information Systems for Managers in the IGNOU Management Programme. Every question in it was chosen after reading six actual question papers of this course, from June 2023 through to December 2025, and every answer is written strictly from the IGNOU blocks rather than from outside sources.
The reason this subject frightens people is not difficulty. It is spread. Fifteen units run from computer hardware to data mining, and a candidate who reads all of them evenly ends up remembering none of them precisely enough to score. What the examiner actually rewards is the exact list count, the named scholar and a clean conclusion line. That is what this file is built around.

Quick reference facts for MMPC 008 Information Systems for Managers and the 2026 guess paper file
What the MMPC 008 Guess Paper 2026 Contains
The file holds 12 questions with 13 pages of written answers, each question tagged with its block, its unit and the sessions in which it last appeared. Nothing in it is a summary or a bullet skeleton. Each answer is a finished script of roughly 450 words, opening with a quoted textbook definition and closing with an evaluative line.
Three things sit on every question card. The block and unit reference tells you where to revise from if you want to read the original text. The last-appeared row lists the actual sessions the topic showed up in. The priority label marks whether a topic is a repeat performer or a single-appearance backup, so you know what to protect if you run short of revision time.
Alongside the answers there are three short planning pages: an exam pattern note, a list of topics that are not worth over-preparing, and a frequency grid of 26 tracked topics across six sessions. Students who buy a full IGNOU Solved Guess Paper set for the second semester usually read those three pages first and then work backwards into the answers.
Five Sample Questions with Answers from the MMPC 008 Solved Guess Paper
Five of the twelve questions are reproduced in full below, question and model answer both, exactly as they appear in the file. They are here so you can judge the writing before you pay for anything. The remaining seven questions cover integrated software applications, data models, the organisation and information system relationship, network components, DBMS components, outsourcing and the short-notes question.
Sample Question 1: Information System, Meaning, Components and Types
Question. Define an information system and list its major components. Also describe how an information system can support a business.
Meaning of Information System
“Information Technology means the collection, storage, processing, dissemination, and use of Information.”
Information is the finished product for which data is the raw material, processed data put into a meaningful and useful context and communicated to a recipient who uses it to make decisions. An information system delivers timely, error-free information by combining technology with people and organizational processes. The terms Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) are used synonymously.
Major Components (4)
- Hardware: a set of devices such as processor, monitor, keyboard and printer that accept, process and display data.
- Software: a set of programs that enable the hardware to process data.
- Database: a collection of related files, tables and relations that stores data and the associations among them.
- Network: connects the computing resources of an organization and facilitates sharing of hardware and software.
Organizational processes and people are integral parts of every IT system.
Types of Information System (7)
- TPS: Transaction Processing System, record keeping and periodic/exception reports.
- DSS: Decision Support System, data-analysis tools that assist problem-specific decision making.
- EIS: Executive Information System, trend analysis and drill-down for senior managers.
- MIS: routine summary of basic operations to raise operational efficiency.
- Workflow System: rule-based system that directs and monitors an interrelated set of tasks.
- ERP: integrated programs managing a company's vital business operations.
- Expert Systems: make suggestions and act like an expert using a knowledge base.
How IS Supports a Business
IT improves the cost-performance ratio and is applied across Finance and accounting, Sales and marketing, Manufacturing, Human Resource Management, Project Management and Data Analysis, forecasting revenues, controlling inventory, screening applicants, scheduling projects and analysing investments.
Conclusion: An information system integrates hardware, software, database, network and people to deliver accurate, timely information that raises efficiency in every business function.
Sample Question 2: Phases of the System Development Life Cycle
Question. Explain the different phases of the System Development Life Cycle. Discuss the importance of each step.
Meaning of SDLC
“The goal of the information system life cycle is to keep the project under control and assure that the system produced satisfies the requirements.”
SDLC assumes an information system has a life cycle similar to a living organism, with a beginning, middle and an end. This representation is referred to as the waterfall model. It consists mainly of seven phases:
The Seven Phases
- Project Identification and Selection: the user identifies the need for a new or improved system, fixing general objectives and scope, it decides whether a problem can be solved by a new system.
- Project Initiation and Planning: the scope is fixed and a baseline project plan with time, resources and cost-benefit analysis is produced.
- Analysis: requirements determination, analysts study existing systems, strengths, weaknesses and feasible alternative solutions.
- Logical Design: lays out components and their relationships as seen by users, inputs, outputs, processing, data models and controls, independent of hardware.
- Physical Design: translates the logical model into technical specifications for hardware, software, databases, media and controls.
- Implementation: specifications are turned into a working system through coding, testing and installation.
- Operation and Maintenance: begins after acceptance, covers ongoing operation, support and maintenance throughout the system's useful life.
Each phase has distinct deliverables that build on the previous step, and milestones are reviewed before the next phase begins. This tightly controlled, sequential approach reduces the likelihood of mistakes or omissions, which is why the traditional SDLC remains the standard against which other approaches are compared.
Conclusion: The seven phases give a controlled, milestone-driven route from identifying a need to maintaining a live system, ensuring the delivered system genuinely satisfies user requirements.
Sample Question 3: Data Warehouse, Characteristics and Metadata
Question. Explain the concept of data warehousing. Describe its various characteristics and the types of metadata it contains.
Meaning of Data Warehouse
“A Data Warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant, nonvolatile collection of data in support of management's decisions.”
Defining Characteristics (4)
- Subject-orientation: data are arranged and optimized by topic, sales, marketing, finance, distribution, to answer questions from diverse functional areas.
- Time-variancy: unlike current operational data, warehouse data represent the flow of data through time and can even hold projected data.
- Non-volatility: once data enter the warehouse they are never removed, near-term history is always added, so the warehouse keeps growing.
- Integration: it is a centralized, consolidated database that standardizes data elements from the entire organization for a unified view.
Metadata in a Data Warehouse
“Metadata in a data warehouse is similar to the data dictionary in the context of a database.”
Metadata stores data about the data in the warehouse and falls into three major categories:
- Operational Metadata: contains information about the operational data sources, allowing users to trace information back to the original source.
- Extraction and Transformation Metadata: holds data about extraction frequencies, methods, business rules and the transformations performed in the staging area.
- End-User Metadata: is the navigational map of the warehouse, letting end-users find information using their own business terminology.
Conclusion: A data warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant and non-volatile store, while its operational, transformation and end-user metadata act as the glue that connects and makes the warehouse usable.
Sample Question 4: Application Software versus System Software and Open Source Software
Question. Distinguish between application software and system software. Also explain the concept and philosophy of open-source software with a few common licenses.
Meaning
“System software and application software are computer programs.”
System software is installed with the operating system and runs in the background as low-level software, it includes compilers, assemblers, debuggers and file-management tools. Application software utilizes the capabilities of the computer for user tasks and cannot run without system software.
| System Software | Application Software |
|---|---|
| Installed when the OS is installed | Installed as per the user's requirements |
| Compilers, interpreters, drivers, assemblers | ERP, CRM, SCM, media players, word processors |
| Works in the background, users rarely interact | Users interact with it while doing activities |
| Usually only one type is needed | Many programs can be installed at once |
| Runs independently of applications | Cannot run without system software |
Open Source Software (OSS)
“Open Source Software (OSS) is primarily defined as software, which is freely re-distributable and includes the source code.”
Its philosophy centres on user participation, users can modify the program or fix bugs themselves, and many help develop it for free. Common licenses include GNU GPL (V2 & V3), AGPL, LGPL, MIT, BSD 3-Clause and Apache License 2.0.
Advantages of OSS (3)
- Cost Effective: often free, saving software cost.
- Customizable: the source allows users to tailor software to their needs.
- More Secure: open code is scrutinized by many, so more flaws are found and corrected.
Conclusion: System software runs the machine in the background while application software serves user tasks, OSS, with its freely available source code, adds cost-effectiveness, customizability and security.
Sample Question 5: Programmed and Non-Programmed Decisions and CADS
Question. “Managerial decisions are classified into programmed and non-programmed categories.” Explain both decisions. How does a computer-aided decision system assist managers?
Meaning
“Managerial decisions are classified into programmed and non-programmed categories.”
Programmed Decisions
These can easily be automated, for example, determining optimal product mix or minimum-cost production schedules. They are characterized by large data and a few decision rules or algorithms (such as Linear Programming) that arrive at an optimal plan. Because they can be represented as unambiguous step-by-step instructions, they are also called structured decisions and are readily run on a digital computer.
Non-Programmed Decisions
These do not lend themselves to easy automation and rely on heuristics, which generally yield near-optimal solutions but cannot guarantee optimality. Also called unstructured decisions, they require flexible data access, user-friendliness, what-if capability and a manager's experience. Following Dewey, conclusions are reached in three steps:
- Identify the problem.
- Identify the alternatives.
- Select the best alternative.
Computer Aided Decision System (CADS)
“A decision support system (DSS), also called Computer Aided Decision System (CADS), is used when the problem is complex and the information needed to make the best decision is difficult to obtain and use.”
A DSS is designed with the help of decision makers, it aids the decision-making process but does not make any decision. It consists of a model of the real world, a database of facts and a user interface, and can perform what-if and trend analysis.
Conclusion: Programmed (structured) decisions suit automation by algorithms, while non-programmed (unstructured) decisions need heuristics and judgment, a CADS/DSS supports both by combining human judgment with computerized information.

How the MMPC 008 Guess Paper Was Built from Six Question Papers
Six Term-End papers were read line by line, June 2023 to December 2025, and every question was tagged to a block and a unit before any answer was written. Only after that mapping was complete did the shortlist of 12 emerge.
The method is boring and that is the point. Each question from each session was entered into a grid of 26 topics. A topic appearing in four or more of the six sessions was marked HIGH. Two or three appearances made it MEDIUM. A single appearance made it LOW, worth keeping as backup but not worth memorising word for word.
One adjustment was made on top of raw frequency. Some topics with a strong history had gone quiet for two or three sessions, which historically means they are due. Data models and data warehousing both fall into that category, and both were promoted to HIGH despite an absent 2025. Anyone cross-checking this against a raw IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper stack will see the same gaps.
Answers were then written from the IGNOU blocks themselves, not paraphrased from the internet. Where the book gives a count, the count is preserved: four components of an information system, seven phases of SDLC, four characteristics of a data warehouse, seven components of a DBMS. Examiners tick those counts.

Read the grid horizontally and the pattern is obvious. SDLC has appeared in four of the last six sessions and has never skipped two in a row. Cyber crime and IS security appears often but almost always as a short note rather than a full 20-mark question, which is why it sits in the short-notes preparation rather than as a standalone answer.
MMPC 008 Exam Pattern and Answer Writing Rules for 2026
The MMPC 008 paper sets seven questions, you attempt any five, each carries 20 marks, and the total is 100 marks in three hours. There are no internal sections and no compulsory question, which means your choice of five is unrestricted.
Question 7 has been the short-notes question in every recent session, asking for any three out of five listed topics. That single question is the most reliable 20 marks on the paper, because five options mean you almost always know three. The file treats it as a separate question with five prepared notes.
On timing, three hours across five answers is 35 minutes each, and the practical word target is around 450 words for a 20-mark answer. Longer is not better. An examiner reading a 900-word answer is looking for the same list counts that a 450-word answer would have delivered in half the time.
Four habits lift marks reliably in this subject. Open with a definition and name the source where the book gives one, Bill Inmon for the data warehouse and E. F. Codd for OLAP. Keep the book's exact counts. Use a comparison table wherever the book itself compares two things. Close with one evaluative sentence rather than trailing off. The pattern above matches the official IGNOU MMPC 008 question paper published on ignou.ac.in.
Which IGNOU Programmes Include MMPC 008 Information Systems for Managers
MMPC 008 is a core Semester II course in the IGNOU Management Programme and is common to the MBA and every MBA specialisation stream. If your programme appears below, this file applies to you without any change.
- Master of Business Administration (MBA and MBA Online)
- MBA (Logistics and Supply Chain Management)
- MBA (Banking and Finance)
- MBA (Financial Management)
- MBA (Human Resource Management)
- MBA (Marketing Management)
- MBA (Operations Management)
- MBA (Health Care and Hospital Management)
Because the course is shared, the question paper is identical across streams. A logistics candidate and a marketing candidate sit the same MMPC 008 paper on the same day, so a specialisation-specific set is unnecessary here, although students on the logistics stream often pair this with the MBALS guess Paper bundle for their stream-only courses.
One caution worth stating plainly. Guess papers are a prioritisation tool, not a replacement for the blocks. The seven HIGH topics have historically covered the majority of a paper, but IGNOU may set anything from the 15 units, and no honest analysis can promise otherwise.

FAQs on the MMPC 008 Guess Paper with Answers
The questions students ask most before buying are about question count, session validity and whether the answers come from the IGNOU blocks. Short answers to all eight are below.
How many questions are in the MMPC 008 guess paper for 2026?
The file contains 12 questions with complete model answers across 13 answer pages. Five of those questions are shown in full on this page as samples and the remaining seven are supplied with the paid file. The 12 were selected from 26 topics tracked across six Term-End papers between June 2023 and December 2025, with seven marked HIGH priority.
Is the MMPC 008 Solved Guess Paper valid for both June and December 2026?
Yes. The same file targets the June 2026 and December 2026 Term-End Examinations, because the MMPC 008 syllabus and its 15 units are unchanged between the two sessions. The frequency analysis covers both June and December papers, so seasonal patterns are already built into the priority ratings for 2026 rather than tuned to one session only.
Are the MMPC 008 answers written from the IGNOU study material?
Every answer is written from the four MMPC 008 blocks hosted on eGyanKosh, with no outside material added. Definitions are quoted as the book states them, and the book's exact list counts are preserved, four information system components, seven SDLC phases, four data warehouse characteristics and seven DBMS components. Examiners award marks against those counts.
Can I pass MMPC 008 by studying only this guess paper?
It improves your odds substantially but no guess paper can guarantee a pass. Seven HIGH priority topics historically account for most of a paper, and you need five answers out of seven questions. Treat the file as a priority order for revision, then read the remaining units lightly so an unexpected question does not leave you with nothing.
What is the exam pattern for the MMPC 008 term-end paper?
Seven questions are set and you attempt any five. All questions carry equal weight at 20 marks each for a total of 100 marks, and the duration is three hours. There are no internal sections and no compulsory question. Question 7 has consistently been a short-notes question asking for any three topics from a list of five.
Which units of MMPC 008 Information Systems for Managers do the questions come from?
The 12 questions draw from 10 of the 15 units. Block 1 supplies information systems, computer software and networking. Block 2 supplies MIS, decision types and integrated applications. Block 3 supplies outsourcing and the system development life cycle. Block 4 supplies database resource management, data warehousing and the short-note topics on AI and emerging trends.
How is the MMPC 008 guess paper delivered after payment?
Delivery is digital. Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with your course code and target session, and the 15-page PDF is sent on the same thread, usually the same day. Nothing is posted and there is no login to manage. If a specific answer needs clarifying later, reply on the same thread and you will get a written explanation.
Does MMPC 008 have a practical file or project component?
No. MMPC 008 Information Systems for Managers is assessed through assignments and a written three-hour term-end paper only, with no practical file, lab record or viva attached to it. The unit-wise table on this page serves the same purpose a practical index would, showing which of the 15 units each expected question is drawn from.
