MCO 05 Solved Guess Paper for the June 2026 and December 2026 Term End Examinations is a 12 question preparation file for IGNOU MCO-05 Accounting for Managerial Decisions, built by reading six previous year papers line by line and writing every answer out in full. It is not a topic list. Every one of the 12 questions carries a complete model answer in the structure an IGNOU evaluator expects.

MCO-05 punishes students who prepare broadly and write vaguely. The paper gives you a choice of eight or nine questions and asks for any five, so the real skill is picking the five you can finish properly inside three hours. This file is built around that single decision.

Below you will find five of the twelve questions opened up in full, the block and unit index for the whole course, our frequency analysis of the last six sittings, and the answer writing rules we give every student. Read them before you decide whether to ask us for the complete file.

MCO-05 Guess Paper 2026 at a Glance

The MCO 05 Solved Guess Paper contains 12 questions with complete written answers, spread across all 5 blocks of Accounting for Managerial Decisions, and targets both the June 2026 and December 2026 sittings.

The twelve questions were not chosen by guesswork. Each one earned its place by repeating across the last six Term End papers, or by being a high value topic that has recently gone quiet and is due to return. Nine of the twelve are marked high priority in our own frequency table further down this page.

Answers are written strictly from the IGNOU MCO-05 study material. The same definitions, the same attributions to C.I.M.A. London and the Controllers' Institute of America, the same numbered lists. Nothing has been paraphrased into our own words, because IGNOU evaluators reward textual fidelity to the prescribed material and penalise invented phrasing. If you want a wider view of what we publish across other course codes, our IGNOU Solved Guess Paper library follows exactly the same discipline.

Length is deliberate. A 20 mark answer runs to roughly 450 words, a 10 mark answer to 250, and a 5 mark part to 150. In a paper that asks for five answers in three hours, MCO-05 students lose far more marks by padding question one than by writing too little on question five.

5 Sample Questions with Answers from the MCO 05 Solved Guess Paper

Five of the twelve questions are opened up below so you can judge the answer quality before asking for anything. The remaining seven questions are supplied in the complete file.

These are reproduced exactly as they appear in the PDF, word for word. Read the structure as closely as the content. Every MCO-05 theory answer in the file runs on the same spine, namely a quoted definition, a paragraph of context, a numbered list attributed to a named authority, and an evaluative close.

Sample 1 of 5 · Q1 Role of the Management Accountant · 20 marks · Block 1 Unit 1

Last appeared in June 2024 and December 2023. Priority rating high.

Question. Explain the role of the Management Accountant in a modern business organisation. Discuss his main functions.

Answer · Meaning of Management Accountant

The term Management Accountant has been applied to any one who performs accounting work within a firm and it encompasses persons performing activities which range from posting customers' receivable accounts, doing financial analysis for decision making, and making high-level decisions in a large scale organisation.

The Management Accountant plays a significant role in the decision-making process of an organisation. In large organisations he is also known as Financial Controller, Financial Advisor or Chief Accounts Officer. He is responsible for the installation, development and efficient functioning of the management accounting system, and for collecting, compiling, reporting and interpreting internal accounting information. He computes variances by comparing actuals with standards and interprets the results to different levels of management and to the owners.

Six Functions of the Management Accountant (as laid down by the Controllers' Institute of America)

  1. Planning and Control — He establishes, coordinates and maintains an integrated plan for the control of operations, covering cost standards, profit planning, capital investing programmes, sales forecasts and expense budgets.
  2. Reporting and Interpreting — He measures performance against given plans and standards, interprets results to all management levels and the owners, and installs the accounting and costing systems for recording actual performance.
  3. Evaluation of Policies and Programmes — He is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of policies, programmes and the organisational structure in attaining the objectives of the enterprise.
  4. Tax Administration — He reports to government as required under different laws in force, establishes and administers tax policies and procedures, and supervises the preparation of reports to government agencies.
  5. Protection of Assets — He has to assure fiscal protection of the assets of the business through adequate internal control and proper insurance coverage.
  6. Appraisal of External Effects — He continuously assesses the effect of economic and social forces and government policies, and interprets their impact on the business towards the attainment of common goals.

Conclusion. The Management Accountant occupies a strategic staff position by supplying accurate, well-analysed data on which managers act. In India many of these functions are also shared by the Company Secretary, top-level management and the statistical department, but the core responsibility for planning, control, reporting and interpretation of internal accounting information lies with the Management Accountant.

This is the complete answer as printed in the file. Note the shape: quoted definition, then context, then a numbered list attributed to a named authority, then an evaluative close. Every 20 mark answer in the file follows that spine.

Sample 2 of 5 · Q3(a) Product Cost versus Period Cost · 5 marks · Block 1 Unit 2

Q3 asks you to distinguish four pairs of cost concepts for 5 marks each. One pair is reproduced here in full so you can see how the tables are laid out. The other three pairs are in the complete file.

Question. Distinguish between (a) Product cost and Period cost (b) Controllable cost and Uncontrollable cost (c) Variable cost and Fixed cost (d) Direct cost and Indirect cost.

Answer · (a) Product Cost vs Period Cost

Product costs are those costs which are easily attributable to products and consist of direct material, direct labour and a reasonable share of factory overhead; they are also called inventoriable costs. Period costs are those easily attributable to a time interval, do not attach to products and are charged to profit and loss account.

Four rows, four bases, no prose. Distinguish questions in MCO-05 are marked on the table, not on the paragraph around it. Students who answer these in flowing sentences lose easy marks every single session.

Sample 3 of 5 · Q4 Cash Flow versus Funds Flow Statement · 10 + 10 marks · Block 2 Unit 7

Last appeared in December 2024, December 2025 and December 2023. This is the single most persistent topic in recent MCO-05 papers.

Question. How does Cash Flow Statement differ from Funds Flow Statement? What are the uses of Cash Flow Statement?

Answer · Part A · Distinction between Cash Flow and Funds Flow Statement

Fund flow analysis deals with the change in working capital position between two balance sheet dates, whereas cash flow analysis is concerned with the change in cash position. Cash flow statement is reasonably simple and easy to understand and is often used as a way to test the real profitability of the firm.

Part B · Uses of Cash Flow Statement (first three of eight)

  1. Reveals Change in Cash Balance — Changes in the cash balance between two points of time and the contributing factors for such change are clearly revealed.
  2. Explains Cash-Profit Gap — It explains the presence of a very low cash balance in spite of huge operating profits, or a higher cash balance in spite of a very low level of profits.
  3. Determines Additional Cash Requirements — Projected cash flow statements help in determining additional cash requirements during a given period and making timely arrangements.

The complete file carries all eight uses plus the closing evaluation. The five remaining uses cover surplus identification, debt servicing ability, dividend policy, replacement decisions and cash management.

Sample 4 of 5 · Q6 Standard Costing and Its Objectives · 8 + 12 marks · Block 4 Unit 11

Last appeared in June 2025 and December 2023. Part A and the objectives list are reproduced in full below.

Question. What is Standard Costing? State its objectives. Also discuss the prerequisites for the success of Standard Costing.

Answer · Part A · Meaning of Standard Costing

Standard cost is the predetermined cost based on technical estimates for materials, labour and overhead for a selected period of time for a prescribed set of working conditions.
Standard costing is the preparation of standard costs and applying them to measure the variations from actual costs and analysing the causes of variations with a view to maintain maximum efficiency in production.

Standard costing is a technique of cost accounting which compares the standard cost of each product or service with the actual cost to determine the efficiency of operation. When actual costs differ from standards, the difference is called variance and significant variances are investigated for taking remedial action. The system suits industries producing standardised, repetitive products such as cement, steel and sugar but is not suitable for jobbing industries.

Objectives of Standard Costing

  1. Cost Control — Standard costs serve as yardsticks against which actual costs are compared periodically; the management can take corrective action to maintain control over costs.
  2. Setting Selling Price — predetermined standard costs help in fixing selling prices in advance of production and quoting prices for tenders and quotations.
  3. Performance Measurement — Variances reveal inefficient operations and help in measuring the efficiency of executives and departments responsible for costs.
  4. Aid to Planning and Budgeting — Standards provide the data base for preparing budgets and forecasts, and for evaluating different alternatives in decision-making.
  5. Management by Exception — Significant deviations from standards are reported, so that management can concentrate on exceptional variances rather than on routine matters.

The five prerequisites that follow in Part B cover production pattern, organisational structure, technical data, the cost accounting system and top management support. They are written out in the complete file.

Sample 5 of 5 · Q10 Zero Based Budgeting · 10 + 10 marks · Block 3 Unit 10

Last appeared in December 2024 and December 2025. Priority rating medium and rising.

Question. What do you understand by Zero Based Budgeting? How is it different from traditional budgeting?

Answer · Part A · Meaning of Zero Based Budgeting

Zero Based Budgeting is an operating planning and budgeting process which requires each manager to justify his entire budget requests in detail from scratch (hence zero basis). Each manager states why he should spend any money at all. This approach requires that all activities be identified as decision packages which would be evaluated by systematic analysis ranked in order of importance.

Zero Based Budgeting (ZBB) examines a programme, function or responsibility from "scratch". The reviewer proceeds on the assumption that nothing is to be allowed; the manager proposing the activity must prove that the activity is essential and the amounts asked for are reasonable, taking into account the volume of activity. Nothing is allowed simply because it was being done or allowed in the past — it means "writing on a clean slate". Thus a cost-benefit analysis is done in respect of every function or process and the justification for the full amount must be given.

Part B · ZBB versus Traditional Budgeting

The six advantages of ZBB and its six limitations sit either side of this table in the complete file, along with the closing evaluation that ties ZBB back to discretionary cost control.

That is 5 of the 12 questions. The other seven cover accounting concepts, classification of budgets, variance analysis, responsibility accounting, marginal costing in decisions, reporting to management and the short notes set. How the MCO-05 Guess Paper Was Built from Six Previous Year Papers

We read the six Term End papers from June 2023 to December 2025, tallied every question against its block and unit, and selected the 12 questions with the strongest repeat pattern or the longest absence.

The method is deliberately unglamorous. Each paper was broken into its individual questions and sub-parts, and every part was tagged to one of the 19 MCO-05 units. That produced a grid of 24 examinable topics against 6 sittings, which is the table published further down this page. Sub-parts were counted separately, so a question splitting cash flow theory from a cash budget numerical registers against two different units.

Two signals then decided the shortlist. A topic that appeared four or more times is a near certainty and goes in. A high weight topic that has been absent for two or three sittings is a gap candidate, because IGNOU rotates rather than retires its core theory. Role of the Management Accountant is the clearest example, absent since June 2024 and overdue.

If you want to run the same tally yourself rather than take ours on trust, the papers are worth having in front of you. Our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper collection holds them by course code, and IGNOU also publishes originals through its official question paper archive.

One honest limitation. This is a prediction built on pattern, not a leak and not an official IGNOU release. We have no access to the question paper before you do. What we can promise is that the 12 topics carry the highest probability weight available from public evidence.

All 12 Questions Inside the MCO-05 Guess Paper with Mark Splits

The 12 questions span all 5 blocks of MCO-05, with 9 rated high priority and 3 rated medium, and every answer written to its exact mark weighting.

Block and unit references below have been checked against the IGNOU study material listing on eGyanKosh rather than copied from secondary sources, so you can use them to navigate straight to the right unit while revising.

Notice how the marks column varies. MCO-05 rarely gives a clean 20 mark essay. It splits into 10 plus 10, or 5 plus 15, or four short notes of 5. Preparing a topic without knowing which split it usually arrives in is how students end up writing 450 words for a 10 mark part.

MCO-05 Block and Unit Index for Accounting for Managerial Decisions

MCO-05 Accounting for Managerial Decisions is organised into 5 blocks and 19 units, and it carries no practical file, laboratory record or project component, so the index below is the complete chapter map for the course.

Students often arrive believing MCO-05 has seven blocks, because several circulating guide books repeat that error. The official IGNOU Self Learning Material listing on eGyanKosh shows five. Use the block numbers below when you download units, or you will be hunting for files that do not exist.

MCO-05 Topic Frequency Analysis from June 2023 to December 2025

Across six MCO-05 sittings, cash flow analysis appeared four times, accounting concepts four times, and responsibility accounting three times, which is why all three sit in the guess paper.

This grid is our own tally, not an IGNOU publication. A tick means the topic carried a full question or a substantial part in that sitting. High means four or more appearances or a recent gap on a heavyweight topic, medium means two or three, and low means a single appearance.

Two patterns are worth naming. First, December papers lean harder on theory than June papers do, which matters if you are sitting the December 2026 attempt. Second, break even and relevant cost topics almost always arrive as numericals, so they are prepared differently from the theory questions in this file. Keeping a copy of the MCO 05 Question paper set beside this table lets you confirm each tick for yourself.

MCO-05 Exam Pattern and Answer Writing Rules That Earn Marks

The MCO-05 Term End Examination runs 3 hours for 100 marks, presents a single section, and instructs you to answer any five questions with all questions carrying equal marks.

Both English and Hindi versions of every question appear in the same paper, so attempt in whichever language you are stronger in. There are no compulsory questions in the recent pattern, which means your first five minutes should be spent choosing, not writing.

These are the rules we give students, drawn from what actually scores in this subject.

  1. Open with a quoted definition from a named authority. MCO-05 attributes its key definitions to specific names, and the evaluator scans for them. Zero based budgeting belongs to Peter A. Pyhrr, responsibility accounting to Professor A. J. E. Sorgdrager and his paper on the particularisation of indirect costs, the six functions of the Management Accountant to the Controllers' Institute of America.
  2. Answer distinguish questions in a table with four or five rows. Prose comparison is marked lower for the identical content. This applies to Q3, Q4, Q8 and Q10 in the file.
  3. Pair each theory point with a one line concrete example. Factory rent as a fixed cost, direct wages as a variable cost, executives' salary as a period cost, cement and sugar as the standard costing industries, foreman's salary as an indirect cost. MCO-05 examiners reward the named instance over the abstraction.
  4. Hold to the word budget. Roughly 450 words for a 20 mark question, 250 for a 10 mark part, 150 for a 5 mark part. Q3 is the trap here, because four 5 mark pairs tempt students into writing four full essays. Overwriting early is the most common reason MCO-05 candidates never reach their fifth answer.
  5. Close with two or three evaluative lines. Tie the topic back to managerial decision making, which is the phrase in the course title itself. Variance analysis closes on corrective action, marginal costing on short term tactical choices, responsibility accounting on motivation and management by exception.

None of this is exotic. It is simply what the marking scheme rewards in a theory heavy commerce paper, applied consistently across all five answers you attempt.

What to Leave Out of Your MCO-05 Preparation

Heavy numerical questions on final accounts, material mix and yield variances, and single appearance budget calculations are the four areas we advise most MCO-05 students to treat as backup rather than primary attempts.

This section exists because a guess paper that only tells you what to study is doing half the job. With five questions to attempt from eight or nine, deciding what to abandon is as valuable as deciding what to learn.

Trial balance to final accounts appeared as question two in both December 2024 and December 2025. It is answerable, but it consumes forty minutes and a single arithmetic slip cascades through the whole answer. Unless numericals are your strength, take the theory alternative.

Complex variance numericals involving material mix and yield, as set in June 2023, carry the same risk profile. Prepare the formulas so you can attempt them if the theory questions disappoint, but do not build your revision around them.

Sales overheads budget calculation from December 2025 and cash budget numericals are single appearance items. Leverage and debt equity numericals from June 2024 and December 2023 fall into the same category. Learn the formulas as insurance, not as a plan.

Who This MCO-05 Guess Paper Is Built For

The file is written for Master of Commerce (M.Com) and Master of Commerce in Business Policy and Corporate Governance (MCOMBPCG) students carrying MCO-05 in the June 2026 or December 2026 session.

It suits three situations. Students with four to six weeks left who need a finishing line rather than nineteen MCO-05 units. Students reappearing who already know the blocks and want the highest probability twelve topics. Working students who can give an hour a day and cannot afford to spend it on differential costing, which has appeared once in six sittings.

It suits one situation badly. If you have not yet read the MCO-05 study material at all, start with the blocks. A guess paper compresses revision, it does not replace first contact with the subject.

Students taking several M.Com papers in the same session usually ask for more than one file, and the wider MCom guess Paper set follows the same construction method across the other course codes in the programme.

How to Get the Complete MCO 05 Solved Guess Paper

Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with your course code and the session you are appearing in, and we will confirm availability, price and delivery format before anything else happens.

Three things about this MCO-05 file are worth saying plainly before you write to us.

We do not claim the same questions will appear. This is a probability file built on six papers of evidence, and any provider telling you otherwise is selling you something we would not. What we do claim is that the twelve topics carry the strongest available signal and that each answer is written to the standard the marking scheme rewards.

The file is in English only at present. If you intend to write your MCO-05 answers in Hindi, tell us when you message so we can advise you honestly on whether it will help you.

Delivery is by WhatsApp as a PDF, usually the same day. Send the course code MCO-05, your programme, and your session, and we will take it from there.

MCO-05 Guess Paper Questions Students Ask Us

What is included in the MCO-05 solved guess paper for June and December 2026?

The file holds 12 questions with complete model answers across 21 pages in English. Every answer is written to its mark weighting, opens with a quoted definition, uses tables for comparison questions and closes with an evaluative conclusion. Coverage spans all five blocks of Accounting for Managerial Decisions. It also carries the exam pattern notes, the answer writing rules and the six session frequency analysis grid.

How many MCO-05 questions are previewed on this page and how many remain in the file?

Five of the twelve questions are previewed above, namely Q1, Q3, Q4, Q6 and Q10. The remaining seven cover accounting concepts, classification of budgets, variance analysis, responsibility accounting, marginal costing applications, reporting to management and the short notes set. Those seven arrive complete in the file, with the same answer structure you can already judge from the five samples reproduced here.

Is this MCO-05 guess paper suitable for both M.Com and MCOMBPCG students?

Yes. MCO-05 Accounting for Managerial Decisions is a shared course across Master of Commerce and Master of Commerce in Business Policy and Corporate Governance, and both programmes sit the same Term End paper. The syllabus, the block structure and the examination pattern are identical, so the same twelve questions and the same answer approach apply whichever of the two programmes you are enrolled in.

Which previous year papers were analysed to build the MCO-05 important questions list?

Six Term End papers were used, covering June 2023, December 2023, June 2024, December 2024, June 2025 and December 2025. Each paper was split into individual questions and sub-parts, and every part was tagged to its MCO-05 unit. That tally produced the frequency grid published on this page, which is what the twelve question shortlist was drawn from.

Does the MCO-05 guess paper cover numerical questions or only theory?

The twelve answers are theory based, because MCO-05 offers enough theory choice to build a full five question attempt without touching numericals. Break even, ratio analysis, variance calculation and cash budget numericals are discussed in the exam strategy pages and flagged by frequency, but full worked solutions to them are not part of this particular file.

Are the MCO-05 answers written from the official IGNOU study material?

Yes. Definitions, attributions and numbered lists follow the prescribed MCO-05 blocks rather than outside textbooks, because IGNOU evaluators reward fidelity to the study material. Where a definition is attributed to C.I.M.A. London or the Controllers' Institute of America, that attribution comes from the block itself. The official blocks remain available at no cost through the IGNOU eGyanKosh repository.

How do I receive the complete MCO-05 guess paper after contacting Unnati Educations?

Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with the course code MCO-05, your programme and the session you are appearing in. We confirm availability, price and format first, then send the PDF through the same WhatsApp thread, usually on the same day. Nothing is charged before you have confirmed what you are receiving and agreed the price with us.

Does this MCO-05 guess paper guarantee the same questions will appear in the exam?

No, and we will not tell you otherwise. This is a probability file built from six papers of public evidence, so it raises the odds that your prepared topics appear without eliminating risk. Treat the twelve questions as your priority list and keep two or three backup topics ready. Any provider promising guaranteed questions or assured marks is not being honest with you.
