MCO 023 Solved Guess Paper 2026 is a 17-page revision file that carries 13 high-probability questions of IGNOU Strategic Management with complete, exam-ready answers. It is built for learners of the Master of Commerce (MCOM) and Master of Commerce (Online) (MCOMOL) programmes who are sitting the June 2026 or December 2026 Term-End Examination and want a short, reliable list instead of four thick blocks.
Strategic Management is a theory paper where the same twenty-odd topics keep rotating. We read the last five available Term-End papers, marked every topic that repeated, and then wrote one clean answer per topic in the examiner's own word limit. Nothing in the file is outside the IGNOU book.

1. What the MCO 023 Solved Guess Paper 2026 actually contains
The file carries 13 solved questions spread across all four blocks of MCO-023, with 9 of them marked HIGH priority because they repeated four or more times in the last five papers.
Seven questions are written as full 20-mark answers, five at 10-mark length, and one is the four-part short-notes set that carries 20 marks on its own. The paper often mixes both splits inside a single 20-mark question. A question printed as 5 + 15 or 4 + 6 + 10 still totals 20, so each answer is broken into parts that match the split the examiner actually used.
Every question sheet in the file follows the same layout. You get the IGNOU-style question wording, the mark split, the block and unit reference, the sessions in which the topic last appeared, and then the answer. This part is what makes it different from an ordinary note set: you can see the evidence for why a topic is on the list before you spend an evening on it. The same structure runs through every title in our IGNOU Solved Guess Paper range.
The 13 topics are: meaning, levels and importance of strategy; corporate governance and its seven models; competitive strategy formulation and its dimensions; differentiation strategy; external versus internal environment analysis; and PESTLE analysis.
The list continues with the characteristics and process of setting objectives; the EPRG framework; diversification and its types; the strategic control process; the Resource Based View; business portfolio analysis through the BCG matrix; and a short-notes set covering stability strategy, retrenchment strategies, the Balanced Scorecard and Porter's Five Forces.
2. 5 sample questions with answers from the MCO 023 guess paper
Five of the 13 solved questions are reproduced in full below, so you can judge the answer quality before you buy the remaining 8.
These are not trimmed previews. Each one is the same answer that sits in the file, at the same length, with the same structure. Read one, compare it with your own notes, and decide.
What is the meaning of strategy? Discuss the levels and the importance of strategy.
Question: What is the meaning of strategy? Discuss the levels and the importance of strategy. (4 + 10 + 6)
Meaning of strategy. Strategy is a plan deployed at each level of management to attain the objectives and realise the long-term goals of the organisation. It is a set of coherent actions performed to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. The word comes from the Greek Strategos, where stratos means army and agos means to lead, and it was first used in the military. Formally, strategy is the unified, comprehensive and integrated plan that relates the strategic advantage of the organisation to the challenges of the environment, and is designed to ensure that the basic objectives of the enterprise are achieved through proper implementation.
The 5 Ps of strategy (Mintzberg, 2005).
- Pattern: consistency in a particular course of action, that is, the realised strategy.
- Plan: looking ahead and preparing for the future, that is, the intended strategy.
- Position: locating specific products in specific markets to raise value.
- Perspective: strategy as the vision of the organisation, looking inward.
- Ploy: a tactic used to outwit competitors.
Levels of strategy.
- Corporate level: value-oriented, futuristic and pervasive decisions taken by the Board and the CEO, such as acquisitions, diversification and structural redesign.
- Business level: formulated by each Strategic Business Unit to make the best use of resources within the constraints set by corporate strategy.
- Functional level: implemented at the lowest level through functional areas, to support business-level objectives.
Importance of strategy. It helps the organisation take decisions on long-range forecasts and meet competition effectively. It keeps management flexible in uncertain situations and yields financial benefit through increased profits. It provides focus and clarity of direction towards objectives, which supports organisational effectiveness. It also motivates employees and improves corporate communication, coordination and allocation of resources.
Conclusion. Strategy is the means by which an organisation moves towards its objectives by aligning its resources with the environment. It operates across three levels and forms an integral, value-adding part of management.
Define Corporate Governance. Describe the different models of Corporate Governance.
Question: Define Corporate Governance. Describe the different models of Corporate Governance. (5 + 15)
Meaning. Corporate governance is concerned with the process by which organisations are governed and managed. In the simplest definition, it is the system by which organisations are directed and controlled. It is a set of standards that aims to improve the organisation's image, efficiency, effectiveness and social responsibility, while balancing the interests of the internal structure (management and the board) and the external structure (shareholders and stakeholders).
The five pillars. Corporate governance rests on accountability, fairness, transparency, integrity and social responsibility. All five are critical for building strong relationships with shareholders and stakeholders.
Models of corporate governance. The book gives seven models.
- Canadian model: influenced by French and British culture, an early initiator that now closely resembles the US structure.
- UK and American (Anglo-American) model: shaped by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which emphasised transparency, accountability and independent auditing.
- German model: financed by rich families, bankers and foreign investors, with the company laws of 1870 and 1884 stressing transparent information.
- Italian model: long dominated by family holdings, with organised corporate governance arriving only in recent decades.
- France model: the financial system was controlled by the state and religion, and governance was introduced stage-wise along with economic development.
- Japanese model: a mix of private and state capitalisation, where the concept evolved largely over the past twenty years.
- Indian model: formalised by the CII Desirable Corporate Governance Code of 1998, the Kumar Mangalam Birla and Naresh Chandra committees, and SEBI's revised Clause 49 in 2003.
Conclusion. Corporate governance directs and controls organisations through five pillars, and its seven models show how different nations balance ownership, accountability and stakeholder interest inside their own legal and cultural context.
What is PESTLE Analysis? Describe the steps involved and explain the different factors under PESTLE analysis with respect to the global environment.
Question: What is PESTLE Analysis? Describe the steps involved and explain the different factors under PESTLE analysis with respect to the global environment. (4 + 6 + 10)
Meaning. PESTLE analysis classifies external forces into six broad categories. Changes in these forces affect consumer demand, the type of products produced, positioning, market segmentation and the choice of business. The framework is the most widely used tool for analysing macro-environmental influence, and it helps an organisation identify and evaluate its opportunities and threats.
Steps involved.
- Environmental scanning: gather information on political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, legal and environmental trends from sources such as the internet, magazines and newspapers.
- Assimilation: assess the gathered information to identify the opportunities and threats available to the organisation.
- Evaluation: identify and list the key external factors that are measurable and important for long-term objectives.
The six factors.
- Political: government stability, the political values that shape policy, trade and global business regulation, taxation policy and social-sector priorities.
- Economic: GNP trends, interest and savings rates, money supply and inflation, unemployment, disposable income, business cycles and trade deficit or surplus.
- Social: population demographics, social mobility, lifestyle change, attitudes to work and leisure, education and health awareness.
- Technological: biotechnology, process innovation, the digital revolution, R&D spending, speed of technology transfer and the rate of obsolescence.
- Legal: monopolies and antitrust regulation, employment law, health and safety, and product safety.
- Environmental: carbon emissions, pollution levels, environmental sustainability and global warming.
Conclusion. PESTLE scans six categories of macro-environmental force through scanning, assimilation and evaluation, which lets an organisation anticipate future impact on the global business environment and shape its strategy accordingly.
Describe the EPRG framework with respect to global business.
Question: Describe the EPRG framework with respect to global business. (10)
Meaning. EPRG stands for the ethnocentric, polycentric, regiocentric and geocentric orientations. These are the four strategic orientations an organisation can adopt for managing its international business, and they differ on the basis of how business operations vary across the regional or global arena.
The four orientations.
- Ethnocentric: the entire global business is managed from the home nation. Foreign markets are secondary, the same product and a single marketing strategy are exported without alteration, and the needs of global customers are largely ignored.
- Polycentric: the opposite of ethnocentric. Strategic control is handed to subsidiaries in each foreign nation, and products, services and marketing are highly localised, varying from nation to nation.
- Regiocentric: the world is divided into regions such as South Asian, European and American. One common strategy and product range serves every nation inside a region, so products are less localised than under the polycentric approach.
- Geocentric: the organisation adopts a global, integrated approach and treats the entire world as a single market, combining local responsiveness with global standardisation.
Conclusion. The EPRG framework maps international strategy along a continuum that runs from a home-country focus, through nation-wise and region-wise localisation, to a fully global and integrated outlook.
What do you mean by diversification? Explain its types.
Question: What do you mean by diversification? Explain its types. (10)
Meaning. Diversification is defined as the entry of an organisation into new lines of activity, through internal or external modes. The primary reasons are value creation through economies of scale and scope, or market dominance. Organisations may also diversify because of government policy, performance problems or uncertain cash flows. In one sense diversification is a risk-management tool that spreads risk, much like an investor holding multiple stocks. It can be achieved internally through new products, segments or markets, or externally through acquisitions and joint ventures.
Types of diversification.
- Related or concentric diversification: the organisation expands into a related industry that shares synergy in technology, customers, distribution, location or manufacturing with the existing business. It suits an organisation that holds a strong competitive position and distinctive competencies while its current industry has turned unattractive, and it generally creates higher value.
- Unrelated or conglomerate diversification: the organisation enters an entirely new and unrelated line of business. It suits a situation where the current industry is unattractive and the organisation lacks outstanding capability in related products or services.
Related diversification usually returns higher profitability and stock value than unrelated diversification, because of the synergy effect, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Conclusion. Diversification is entry into new lines of activity to create value and manage risk, and it takes two forms: related diversification, which exploits synergy, and unrelated diversification into wholly new businesses.
The remaining 8 solved questions in the file cover competitive strategy and its twelve dimensions, differentiation strategy, external versus internal environment analysis, characteristics and process of setting objectives, the strategic control process, the Resource Based View, BCG portfolio analysis, and the four short notes. 4. MCO 023 Strategic Management exam pattern and marking scheme
MCO-023 is a 3-hour, 100-mark paper in which seven questions are set and you attempt any five, each carrying 20 marks.
There is no compulsory question and no section division, which is unusually generous. It means you can walk in having prepared nine or ten topics properly and still find five you can write at full length. That is the whole logic behind a guess paper for this code.
| Element | Detail | What it means for your preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | 3 hours | Roughly 34 minutes per question, including planning and headings |
| Maximum marks | 100 | Five answers at 20 marks each, no internal choice within a question |
| Questions set | 7 | Two spare questions, so nine well-prepared topics is a safe cushion |
| Questions to attempt | Any 5 | Pick your strongest five in the first five minutes and stick to them |
| Compulsory question | None | No single topic can wreck the paper, unlike papers with a forced Q1 |
| Common mark splits | 20, 10+10, 5+15, 8+12, 4+6+10 | Write in the same parts the split names, and label each part clearly |
| Question 7 | Short notes, any four of five, 4 × 5 | Appeared in every paper we checked, so it is close to a guaranteed 20 |
| Word target, 20 marks | About 450 words | Roughly 2.5 to 3 pages of normal handwriting with headings |
| Word target, 10 marks | About 250 words | Definition, four to six points, one-line conclusion |
| Word target, 5 marks | About 150 words | Definition plus three crisp bullets is enough for a short note |
| Medium | English and Hindi | The question paper prints both, so the guess paper follows the English wording |
5. How the MCO 023 Solved Guess Paper 2026 was researched and written
We read five Term-End papers from June 2023 to December 2025, logged all 24 topics that appeared, counted repeats, and then wrote one answer for every topic that crossed the frequency threshold.
The starting point was the official archive rather than someone else's list. Every paper was pulled from the IGNOU question-paper service, so the wording, the mark splits and the short-notes options are the real ones, not reconstructed. If you want to verify any single claim on this page yourself, the December 2023 MCO-023 paper is public: view the official IGNOU MCO-023 question paper (PDF). The same archive is where we source every IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper we work from.
Three rules governed the writing. First, no answer leaves the IGNOU book, because examiners for this paper mark against the block content and not against a management textbook you read elsewhere.
Second, every answer holds the book's own counts, the 5 Ps, the six PESTLE forces, the seven governance models and the four control types, since losing a count is the fastest way to lose marks on a listing question. Third, no answer is padded past the word target, because a 700-word answer to a 10-mark question costs you time you needed for question five.
The team behind it matters as much as the method. Prateek Talwar, a practising Company Secretary, wrote the commerce and management content, and Sheetal Kirola, our Academic Head, reviewed the block mapping and the frequency table. We have been preparing IGNOU material from Vikas Puri, New Delhi since 2008, and the MCO 023 Important Questions list is rebuilt after every session rather than reused.
6. Five-session frequency analysis of MCO 023 Important Questions
Nine topics in MCO-023 repeated four or more times across five sessions, and those nine alone can cover all five answers you need to write.
This is the single most useful page in the file, and it is the reason the question list is only 13 items long instead of 40. A tick means the topic was set in that session. A blank means it was not.
| Topic | Jun 2023 | Dec 2023 | Dec 2024 | Jun 2025 | Dec 2025 | Priority |

| Strategic intent | — | — | — | — | Yes | LOW |
| International expansion | — | Yes | — | — | — | LOW |

How to read the priority column: HIGH means the topic repeated four or more times, or is a recent-paper gap that is due to return. MEDIUM means two or three appearances. LOW means a single appearance in five sessions, which makes it backup reading rather than core revision.
7. Complete block and unit index of MCO 023 Strategic Management
MCO-023 runs to 4 blocks and 13 units, and the 13 questions in the file touch 11 of those units directly.
Use this table as a coverage map. If a unit shows a guess-paper reference, the answer is already written for you. If it shows none, you only need a working idea of the unit, not a full answer. Read it alongside the MCO 023 Study Material block PDFs, which are published unit-wise on eGyanKosh.

8. What not to over-prepare in MCO 023 Strategic Management
Four areas of MCO-023 consume study time out of all proportion to the marks they have returned in five sessions.
Strategic intent, the Industrial Organization model and strategy implementation each appeared exactly once in five papers. Know what they mean in three lines and move on. Writing full answers for single-appearance topics is the most common way students run out of time on the high-frequency ones.
Long lists of financial ratios and DuPont working are another trap. This is a strategy paper, not an accounting paper, so the examiner wants to see that you understand what a ratio signals about competitive position, not that you can compute it. Similarly, country-by-country governance history rewards knowing the seven model names, not every date attached to them.
Finally, do not memorise diagrams verbatim. A rough BCG grid with the four quadrants labelled earns the mark. A perfectly reproduced figure with no explanation around it does not. The examiner is reading for structure and understanding, and the file is written that way throughout. The same principle carries across our MCOM Guess Paper range for other commerce codes.
9. A 7-day revision plan built around the MCO 023 guess paper
Seven days is enough for MCO-023 if you spend five of them on the nine HIGH-priority topics and two on writing practice.
- Day 1, Block 1. Strategy meaning, 5 Ps, three levels and importance, plus objectives. Two answers, one long, one short.
- Day 2, Block 2. External versus internal environment and the full PESTLE answer. Draw the comparison table twice from memory.
- Day 3, Block 3. Competitive strategy and its twelve dimensions, then differentiation. Both are 20-mark HIGH topics set in the last two sessions.
- Day 4, Block 4. Corporate governance with all seven models, then strategic control. Governance alone appeared in four of five papers.
- Day 5, the connectors. EPRG, diversification and the Resource Based View. These are short answers that convert directly into Question 7 short notes as well.
- Day 6, short notes. Stability strategy, retrenchment, Balanced Scorecard and Porter's Five Forces, at 150 words each. That is a full 20 marks for one evening.
- Day 7, a timed mock. Pick five questions from the file, set a three-hour timer and write in full. This is where you find out whether your 450-word answer is actually 450 words.
One habit is worth more than any of the seven days: open every answer with a definition and a name. Glueck for objectives, Mintzberg for the 5 Ps, Porter for five forces and generic strategies, Kaplan and Norton for the Balanced Scorecard. It takes one line and it changes the first impression of the whole answer.
10. Who should buy the IGNOU MCO 023 Guess Paper and how to get it
The file suits MCOM and MCOMOL learners who have limited revision time and want a short, evidence-backed list rather than four complete blocks.
It is a good fit if you are working full time and studying at night, if you are a repeater who has already failed or missed this paper once, if English is your second language and you need answers written in plain sentences, or if you are simply starting late and need to know which nine topics carry the paper. It is a poor fit if you want a substitute for the study material altogether, because the file is a revision and answer-writing aid, not a replacement for the book.
The complete file, all 13 solved questions plus the exam-pattern and frequency pages, is sent as a PDF. Send the course code on WhatsApp and we will confirm availability, price and delivery time in the same chat. Doubts about a specific answer after you receive it are handled on the same number.
11. FAQs about the MCO 023 Strategic Management guess paper
Is the IGNOU MCO 023 Solved Guess Paper valid for both June 2026 and December 2026?
Yes. The file is prepared for both Term-End sessions of 2026. IGNOU sets MCO-023 from the same four blocks in June and December, and the repeat pattern we tracked holds across both. The 13 questions and the frequency table stay valid for the whole year, so buying once covers whichever session you appear in.
How many questions are there in the MCO 023 guess paper and how many are shown here?
The file holds 13 solved questions across all four blocks. Five of them are published in full on this page as samples, which leaves 8 in the paid file. Seven are full 20-mark answers, five are 10-mark answers and one is the four-part short-notes set, matching the mark splits that actually appeared in the last five Term-End papers.
Are the MCO 023 Important Questions guaranteed to come in the exam?
No, and any seller promising that is not being straight with you. This is a probability list built from five sessions of evidence, not a leaked paper. What we can say is that the nine HIGH-priority topics repeated four or more times, and the paper sets seven questions of which you attempt five, so the odds are strongly in your favour.
Does MCO 023 Strategic Management have a practical file or project work?
No. MCO-023 is a purely theoretical paper with no practical file, lab record or viva. Your assessment is one assignment worth 30 per cent and one 3-hour Term-End paper worth 70 per cent. Project work in M.Com is a separate course with its own code, so nothing practical is needed for MCO-023. The guess paper therefore indexes answers page by page, not experiments.
Is this MCO 023 Guess Paper useful for MCOMOL students as well as MCOM?
Yes. Master of Commerce (MCOM) and Master of Commerce Online (MCOMOL) learners study the same MCO-023 syllabus and sit the same 100-mark Term-End paper. The block and unit numbering is identical, so every answer, the block map and the frequency table apply without any change to either programme. Students in both programmes receive exactly the same 13 solved questions.
Are the MCO 023 answers written in English or Hindi?
The file is written in English. IGNOU prints the MCO-023 question paper in both English and Hindi, and you may answer in either medium. Hindi-medium students still use the file to fix the structure, the counts and the points, then write the answer in Hindi. The technical terms stay the same in both mediums anyway.
How long should each answer in MCO 023 Strategic Management be?
About 450 words for a 20-mark question, 250 for a 10-mark part and 150 for a 5-mark short note. In handwriting that is roughly two and a half to three pages for a 20-mark answer. Every answer in the file is already written to these limits, so you are not guessing length in the exam hall.
How do I get the complete MCO 023 Strategic Management guess paper?
Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with the course code MCO-023 and your session, June 2026 or December 2026. We confirm availability and price in the same chat and send the complete PDF after payment. If an answer is unclear once you have it, ask on the same number and one of our faculty will explain it.
