About IGNOU BHIC-114 History of Modern Europe 1780-1939

BHIC-114 is the second modern Europe paper in the IGNOU B.A. Honours History (BAHIH) programme, running from the late eighteenth century to the eve of the Second World War. It is the story of revolutions, ideologies and the crises that shaped the modern world.

You study the general features of fascism and how it mobilised the masses, War Communism and the New Economic Policy in Soviet Russia, the theories of imperialism and colonial rule, the Weimar Republic and the Gestapo, the post-war capitalist crises, and the ideologies of race and class alongside modernism, realism and Nietzsche. The questions reward students who can examine ideas critically, not just describe events.

This page is prepared by the Unnati Educations academic team, with the question text checked by our history content reviewers and study notes by Prateek Talwar. It is anchored to the IGNOU Term-End Examination of December 2025 for the BAHIH programme and was last updated in June 2026.
