BEGE 101 Solved Guess Paper 2026 gives you 13 predicted questions with full, exam-ready answers for IGNOU's From Language to Literature course, the English elective of the Bachelor's Degree Programme (BDP). We picked every question after sitting down with six term-end papers, June 2023 to December 2025, and marking what repeats.

Five of those answers are open for you to read below, word for word as they appear in the PDF. If the style works for you, the full file is one WhatsApp message away.

1. What the BEGE 101 Solved Guess Paper 2026 Covers

It covers 13 questions from all 7 blocks of BEGE 101: twelve 20-mark answers and one 10-mark short note, each tagged HIGH or MEDIUM priority.

BEGE 101 is an odd paper. Half of it feels like grammar (articles, prepositions, phrasal verbs) and the other half feels like literature (symbolism, imagery, rhetoric). Most students prepare one half well and get caught out by the other. This file keeps both halves in view.

The long answers sit around 400 words, which matches what a 20-mark question in this course can realistically hold in the hall. Where the IGNOU book gives a scholar or poet, such as Frost's "The Road Not Taken" or Nehru's speech on Gandhi's death, the answer names them, because examiners in this course notice that.

2. BEGE 101 Sample Questions with Solutions

Below are 5 of the 13 answers, reproduced exactly as they appear in the guess paper, so you can judge the language and depth before you order.

They were chosen from five different blocks on purpose. Read one or two and you'll know whether this style suits how you study.

Sample 1 of 5HIGH priorityBlocks 1 and 520 marksAsked Jun 2024 to Dec 2025

Figures of speech with examples

Question: Elaborate at least five figures of speech with suitable examples.

Meaning of a figure of speech. The book calls it an expression, such as a simile or a metaphor, that gives variety or force by using words out of their literal meaning. So a figure of speech uses words in a special way, not in their plain sense, and makes writing more vivid.

  1. Metaphor. It describes one thing by calling it another, without "like" or "as". Example: "He has a heart of stone." The man is called hard, not literally made of stone.
  2. Simile. It makes a direct comparison using "like" or "as". Example: "He is as brave as a lion." The lion's bravery is given to the man clearly.
  3. Irony. The words mean the opposite of what is said. Example: saying "How smart!" when someone has done something foolish. The real meaning is hidden.
  4. Hyperbole. It is exaggeration used for strong feeling. Example: "It made my blood boil." It only means the person was very angry.
  5. Personification. It gives human qualities to non-living things. Example: "Busy old fool, unruly sun." The sun is spoken to as if it were a person.
  6. Oxymoron. It joins two opposite words. Example: "visible darkness". The two words clash but still create a new meaning.

Conclusion. Figures of speech make language colourful and forceful and help writers build word-pictures. Learn each one with its short example for full marks.

Sample 2 of 5HIGH priorityBlock 420 marksIn all six papers

Word formation processes

Question: Analyse different word formation processes such as derivation, compounding, blending, clipping and acronym formation. Give examples found in literature and use.

Meaning. English produces new words whenever they are needed, and the book calls this the process of word-formation. It divides the ways into major and minor processes.

Major processes

  1. Affixation or derivation adds a prefix at the start or a suffix at the end: un- + kind = unkind; care + -ful = careful.
  2. Compounding joins two whole words: blackbird, fellow-creature, and the fresh compound "luxury-feeling" from the book.
  3. Conversion changes the part of speech without changing spelling: the noun "carpet" becomes the verb in "to carpet a room".

Minor processes

  1. Blending joins parts of two words: brunch, motel, telecast.
  2. Clipping shortens a long word in informal use: exam, fridge, lab.
  3. An acronym is made from first letters: laser, radar, VAT.
  4. Back-formation makes a verb by removing an ending: burgle from burglar, edit from editor.

Conclusion. Word-formation keeps English growing. The major processes are affixation, compounding and conversion; the minor ones are blending, clipping, acronyms and back-formation.

Sample 3 of 5HIGH priorityBlock 620 marksAsked Dec 2023, Jun 2024, Dec 2024

Rhetoric and rhetorical devices

Question: What is rhetoric? Discuss the main rhetorical devices used in speeches and literature with suitable examples.

Meaning. Rhetoric is the art of using words impressively in speech and writing. The word comes from the Greek "rhetor", an orator, and it means language designed to persuade or move people.

  1. Repetition. A key word is repeated to stress it. Nehru repeated "light" seven times in his speech on Gandhi's death to make the loss felt.
  2. Metaphor. In the same speech "light" stands for Gandhi and "darkness" for the sorrow after his death.
  3. Rhetorical questions. A question asked for effect, not for an answer; Shylock's impassioned speech is the classic example.
  4. Balanced structure. Short sentences and parallel lines make a speech forceful, which is how Nehru's speech differs from ordinary writing.
  5. Empty rhetoric. When eloquence has no substance or sincerity, the word becomes derogatory.

Conclusion. Good rhetoric persuades through repetition, metaphor and questions; empty rhetoric is only show.

Sample 4 of 5MEDIUM priorityBlock 720 marksAsked Jun 2023, Jun 2025

Relationship between form and function

Question: Explain the relationship between Form and Function, giving adequate illustrations.

Meaning. "Form" is the shape of a sentence and "function" is the job it does. The book shows that a form and its function may be directly or indirectly related.

  1. One form, many functions. A question form can be an inquiry in one place and a request in another.
  2. One function, many forms. A request can be an imperative ("Pass the newspaper") or a question ("Could you pass the newspaper?").
  3. Direct relation. No context is needed: "I'm sorry I was late" is clearly an apology.
  4. Indirect relation. Context decides the job: "The lamp gives a poor light" can work as a request to fix or move the lamp.

Conclusion. Form is the shape and function is the job. One form can serve many functions and the reverse is also true; a direct relation needs no context, an indirect one does.

Sample 5 of 5MEDIUM priorityBlock 320 marksNew in Dec 2025

Reference and linkage as cohesive devices

Question: Differentiate between reference and linkage as cohesive devices with suitable examples.

Meaning. Cohesion means "sticking together", the way sentences join into one connected text. The book says cohesion lies in continuity of reference within a text.

Reference. It points to a person or object mentioned before or after. Personal reference uses pronouns and possessives: in "Boil the potatoes. After that peel them," the word "them" points back to potatoes. Demonstrative reference uses this, that, these, those, the, here and there.

Linkage. It does not identify items; it signals how one idea leads to another, like signposts on a journey, usually at the start of a sentence. Coordinating conjunctions (and, or, but) and linking adverbials (so, yet, however, meanwhile) show additive, adversative, causal and temporal relations.

Conclusion. Reference identifies items and points back or forward; linkage connects ideas and acts as a signpost. Together they make a text cohesive.

3. How We Predicted the BEGE 101 Important Questions

We listed every question from the six BEGE 101 papers between June 2023 and December 2025, grouped them by topic, and ranked topics by how often and how recently they appeared.

Anything asked four or more times, or picked up in the latest papers, got a HIGH tag. Topics seen two or three times became MEDIUM. Figures of speech and word-formation turned up in every single paper, so they lead the file. Reference and linkage, content-specific vocabulary and grammatical structures all appeared for the first time in December 2025, and we covered them rather than hoping they vanish.

The answers themselves stick to the IGNOU book wording for definitions, then switch to simple English for the explanation. That is the same method we follow across our IGNOU Solved Guess Paper range, where each file is built from that course's own past papers rather than a common template.

4. BEGE 101 Topic Frequency Across Six Sessions

Figures of speech and word-formation appeared in all six BEGE 101 papers from June 2023 to December 2025; phrasal verbs appeared in five.

7. BEGE 101 Exam Pattern and Scoring Tips

The BEGE 101 term-end exam is 3 hours long and carries 100 marks; the December 2025 paper split it into Section A (any two of 10 marks) and Section B (any four of 20 marks).

Papers from June 2023 to June 2025 used a single section: answer any five questions of 20 marks each, often with internal parts. Since IGNOU can switch between the two, practise both. Keep Section B answers near 350 to 400 words and short notes near 200 to 250.

What gets marks in BEGE 101

Open with the book definition, then explain it in your own words. Give at least one example for every device you name. Use numbered points with short headings, and end with a two-line conclusion. Don't memorise the fill-in-the-blank items on prepositions and articles; they change every session, so learn the rule and work them out in the hall.

8. Who Needs the BEGE 101 Solved Guess Paper

It suits IGNOU BDP BA students with BEGE 101 From Language to Literature in their English elective, especially anyone reappearing or starting revision late.

If you have a few weeks and the course book feels long, this file gives you the 13 answers most likely to matter. If you are carrying a back paper, the frequency table shows exactly which topics keep coming back.

One thing to check first: the newer BA Honours English and BA English (FYUP) schemes do not include BEGE 101; they use BEGC course codes instead. If you moved to that scheme, the BAEGH guess Paper set is the one built for your papers.

9. How to Order the Full BEGE 101 Guess Paper

Send "BEGE 101" on WhatsApp to 9899436384; after your order is confirmed, we share the complete 15-page PDF with all 13 answers.

You have seen 5 answers here. The remaining 8 include phrasal verbs, symbolism, repetition and parallelism, politeness and imagery, several of them HIGH priority. If something in the file is unclear later, message the same number and our team will help.

10. BEGE 101 Guess Paper FAQs

What is the BEGE 101 Solved Guess Paper 2026?

The BEGE 101 guess paper is a 15-page PDF with 13 predicted questions and full answers for IGNOU's From Language to Literature course. We chose each question after comparing six term-end papers from June 2023 to December 2025. Twelve answers are 20-mark long answers and one is a 10-mark short note, all written in plain English for the December 2026 exam.

Which IGNOU programme is BEGE 101 part of?

BEGE 101 From Language to Literature is an English elective in IGNOU's Bachelor's Degree Programme (BDP), the older BA scheme run by the School of Humanities. It replaced the earlier code EEG-01. Students of the newer BA Honours English and BA English (FYUP) schemes study BEGC course codes instead, so this guess paper suits BDP learners who still have BEGE 101 to clear.

How many BEGE 101 questions can I see before buying?

You can read 5 complete BEGE 101 sample answers on this page, covering figures of speech, word-formation, rhetoric, form and function, and reference and linkage. The other 8 questions, including phrasal verbs, symbolism, politeness and imagery, are in the full PDF. Message us on WhatsApp at 9899436384 and we share the complete file once your order is confirmed.

Are the BEGE 101 important questions repeated from past papers?

Yes, the BEGE 101 important questions in this file come from topics IGNOU keeps returning to. Figures of speech and word-formation appeared in all six papers from June 2023 to December 2025, and phrasal verbs in five of them. We also covered topics such as reference and linkage that entered the paper only in December 2025, so a recent addition does not catch you unprepared.

What is the BEGE 101 exam pattern?

The BEGE 101 exam lasts 3 hours and carries 100 marks. In December 2025 IGNOU used two sections: Section A asked for any two answers of 10 marks each, and Section B for any four answers of 20 marks each. Earlier papers asked for any five 20-mark questions. Prepare for both patterns, because the format can change from one session to the next.

How should I write a 20-mark answer in BEGE 101?

For a 20-mark BEGE 101 answer, open with the IGNOU book definition, explain it in your own simple words, then give numbered points with one example each. Name the writer when the book does, such as Frost, Nehru or Maugham. Close with a two-line conclusion. Aim for about 350 to 400 words, because extra length does not earn extra marks.

Does BEGE 101 have a practical file?

No, BEGE 101 From Language to Literature is a theory course, so there is no practical file or lab record to submit. Your result depends on the tutor-marked assignment and the term-end exam. That is why this page gives a file index of the guess paper instead, showing which question starts on which page and which block it tests.

How do I get the complete IGNOU BEGE 101 Solved Guess Paper?

Send a WhatsApp message with the course code to 9899436384. Our team confirms the price and payment details, then shares the full 15-page PDF with all 13 answers on WhatsApp. If any topic in the file confuses you later, you can message the same number and we will help you understand it before your BEGE 101 exam.
