What the BEGG-171 Solved Question Paper June 2026 covers

BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills is a 6-credit Generic Elective in IGNOU’s Bachelor of Arts (General), BAG, that teaches how communication, advertising, media writing and cyber media work.

The June 2026 paper tests that whole range in 11 questions. Section A asks about the elements of communication, advertising strategies, unscripted programmes and computer networks. Section B moves to radio scripts, the World Wide Web, a Save Water Save Life TV ad, social and cyber media, a letter to the editor, a health camp report and a sportsperson interview.

Four of the seven Section B questions are hands-on writing tasks, so a worked layout helps more here than in a pure theory course. Our solved file answers all 11, which means you walk in with a model answer in mind for whichever six questions you choose.

If you only have the bare IGNOU BEGG-171 Question Paper from the exam hall or the IGNOU website, you know what was asked but not how much to write, or how to lay out a letter, a report or an ad script. That gap is what this file fills.

BEGG-171 sample solved questions from the June 2026 paper

Two questions from the June 2026 BEGG-171 paper are solved in full below: Section A Q1 on the elements of communication and Section B Q3, the Save Water Save Life TV advertisement.

We picked one 10-mark theory answer and one 20-mark writing task so you can see both answer styles. Both have history: the communication question is almost word for word from December 2023, and IGNOU had set a 30-second TV ad in four earlier papers.

Section A, Q1 Block 1, Unit 1 10 marks 150–200 words Almost word for word from December 2023

Section A, Q1: What are the different elements of Communication? Explain with examples.

Communication is the process of sharing ideas, information or feelings so that two or more people arrive at a common understanding. Every act of communication, from a classroom lecture to a television news bulletin, is built on the same basic elements.

  1. Sender (source): the person or organisation who starts the communication and encodes an idea into words, pictures or signs. Example: a teacher explaining a lesson.
  2. Message: the content being shared, such as a fact, an instruction or a feeling. Example: the date of the term-end examination.
  3. Channel (medium): the route the message travels through, such as speech, a letter, radio, television, e-mail or WhatsApp.
  4. Receiver: the person or audience who decodes the message and gives it meaning. Example: students reading a notice board.
  5. Feedback: the receiver’s response, which tells the sender whether the message was understood. Example: a student raising a doubt in class.

Communication also happens within a context, and it can be disturbed by noise, which is any barrier such as a weak network, difficult jargon or a distraction. It succeeds when all these elements work together and the noise is kept low.

Section B, Q3 Block 2, Unit 3 20 marks 400–450 words TV ad script set in 4 of 8 papers

Section B, Q3: Write a 30 sec. TV advertisement for promotion of the idea ‘Save Water Save Life’ without music and effects.

Title: Every Drop Counts. Duration: 30 seconds. Format: TV public service advertisement. Target audience: families in cities and towns. Sound: dialogue and voice-over only.

The ad is aimed at people who waste water without noticing it. Because the brief rules out music and effects, the story is carried by visuals, two short lines of dialogue, a calm voice-over and on-screen text (supers). Silence is used on purpose so that the running tap feels uncomfortable to watch.

Shot-by-shot script for the BEGG-171 Save Water Save Life TV advertisement
TimeVideoAudio
0–4 secClose-up (CU) of a bathroom tap running at full flow while a young man brushes his teeth and scrolls on his phone.Silence.
4–8 secMedium shot (MS) of his younger sister at the bathroom door, holding an empty steel bucket.Sister: “Bhaiya, the water tanker didn’t come today.”
8–12 secClose-up of his face as he looks at the bucket, then at the tap. He turns it off.Silence.
12–17 secLong shot (LS) of a dry lane where women and children wait in a queue with pots beside an empty tanker.Voice-over (VO): “Somewhere, someone is waiting for the water we waste.”
17–23 secQuick cuts: a mug used instead of a shower, a bucket and cloth used to wash a scooter, a plumber tightening a leaking pipe. Super: TURN OFF. FIX. REUSE.VO: “Turn off the tap. Fix the leak. Use a bucket, not a pipe.”
23–27 secMS of the sister pouring the saved water into a tulsi plant on the balcony. She smiles at her brother. Super: SAVE WATER SAVE LIFE.VO: “Save water. Save life.”
27–30 secEnd frame on a plain blue background. Super: Issued in public interest.VO: “Issued in public interest.”

Why this script works. First, it respects the brief. The audio column holds only dialogue and voice-over, with no music, jingle or sound effect. Second, it follows the grammar of television: a close-up shows the problem, a medium shot brings in the human cost, and a long shot widens it to society.

Third, there are fewer than 40 spoken words, which can be delivered calmly inside 30 seconds. Using a child as the messenger adds emotional weight without any background score. Finally, the ad gives viewers three easy actions and repeats the slogan both as a super and in the voice-over, so the idea stays with them after the screen goes dark.

Questions answered only in the full file

The 9 questions below are printed as they appear in the June 2026 paper. Their answers are not shown on this page.

Section A — Answer any two of the following in 150 to 200 words each: 2 × 10 = 20

Q2. What are the different strategies employed to create an advertisement?

Q3. Discuss the process involved in preparation for an ‘unscripted’ programme.

Q4. Discuss briefly the uses of Computer Network for organizations and for individuals.

Section B — Answer any four of the following in 400 to 450 words each: 4 × 20 = 80

Q1. What are the basic rules to be followed while writing scripts for the radio broadcast? Explain by giving suitable examples.

Q2. Discuss the main elements of World Wide Web and explain how writing for the web differs from writing for print media.

Q4. Discuss the impact of social and cyber media on our lives.

Q5. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper highlighting the problem of traffic jam in your area and suggesting remedies for it.

Q6. Your locality organized a Health Checkup Camp in your area, with you as the coordinator. Prepare a report for a local daily on this.

Q7. Write an interview with a sportsperson of your choice, framing 10 meaningful questions and their probable answers/responses.

This list includes three formats IGNOU keeps returning to: the letter to the editor, the event report and the 10-question interview. Each one loses marks quickly if the layout is wrong.

Unit summaries for every block are on our BEGG-171 Study Material page.

BEGG-171 Question Paper pattern and marks for June 2026

The June 2026 BEGG-171 paper carries 100 marks in three hours, split into Section A (any two of four, 10 marks each) and Section B (any four of seven, 20 marks each).

BEGG-171 June 2026 question paper pattern by section
SectionQuestions givenTo attemptMarks eachWord limitSection marks
Section A4Any 210150–200 words20
Section B7Any 420400–450 words80
Total116 answers—1,900 to 2,200 words100

(2 × 150–200) + (4 × 400–450) = 300 to 400 + 1,600 to 1,800 = 1,900 to 2,200 words in 180 minutes

Notice how the rates run against you in Section B. A Section A answer pays about 0.057 marks per word; a Section B answer only about 0.047, and Section B is where 1,600 to 1,800 of your words go. There is no way around that, since Section B is 80 of the 100 marks, but it does tell you two things: choose your four long questions carefully in the first five minutes, and do not pad them, because every extra hundred words beyond 450 earns nothing.

A workable time plan is about 15 minutes for each Section A answer and 30 to 35 minutes for each Section B answer. That leaves roughly 10 to 30 minutes to choose your questions and read through what you wrote.

IGNOU has switched formats more than once. The June 2025 and December 2025 papers listed ten questions and asked for any five in about 300 words each. June 2026 returned to the two-section layout of June 2023 to December 2024. You can compare the older papers on our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper page.

Most repeated Media and Communication Skills topics in IGNOU papers

All 11 questions in the June 2026 BEGG-171 paper had appeared in at least one of the eight official papers from June 2022 to December 2025.

We read each official paper from IGNOU’s own question paper archive and counted the sessions in which a topic was asked, even when the wording changed. The table also keeps topics that missed June 2026, since those are the strongest candidates for December 2026.

Basic rules for radio scriptsDecember 20231Yes, Section B Q1

Four June 2026 questions, Section A Q1 and Q4 and Section B Q1 and Q2, are almost word for word from December 2023.

Now read the right-hand column for the gaps, because this is the most useful thing the table tells you. Six topics that IGNOU has set before were left out of June 2026, and one of them, the types, characteristics and dangers of mass media, is a joint-top topic at four appearances in eight papers. That makes it the clearest December 2026 candidate. Behind it sit four topics at three appearances each: news scripting for broadcast, ethics in advertising, shot sizes and the grammar of television, and the e-mail and blog writing tasks. The seven C’s of communication, asked twice, was also skipped.

The same gaps show up unit by unit. Only ten of the sixteen units produced a June 2026 question. The six that produced nothing are Block 1 Units 2 and 3 (mass media), Block 2 Unit 2 (public service advertisements) and Unit 4 (ethics in advertising), Block 3 Unit 4 (editing for print and online media) and Block 4 Unit 1 (social media types, blogs and e-mail). Three of those six hold topics with three or four earlier appearances, so that is where your December 2026 reading should start. For a ranked list of likely questions in other courses too, see our IGNOU Solved Guess Paper page.

Papers used: June 2022, December 2022, June 2023, December 2023, June 2024, December 2024, June 2025 and December 2025. Papers from before June 2022 were not included, so the table covers four years of sessions, not five.

How our Media and Communication Skills answers are written and checked

Each BEGG-171 answer is written by Prateek Talwar to the word limit printed in the paper and then checked by Sheetal Kirola against the course material.

Theory answers use the course’s own terms, such as sender, channel and feedback, or close-up and long shot, because examiners look for that vocabulary. We cross-check them with the official BEGG-171 course page on eGyanKosh.

Writing tasks are done in the layout an examiner expects. Letters carry addresses, a date, a subject line and a formal close. Reports open with a headline and a dateline. TV ad scripts use a time, video and audio table, and when the paper says no music or effects, the audio column holds only dialogue and voice-over.

Before a file goes out, the reviewer checks word counts, question numbering and British spelling, and confirms that every question matches the printed paper word for word.

BEGG-171 solved file index: every June 2026 question by unit

BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills FAQs

These answers cover the BEGG-171 June 2026 paper pattern, repeat topics, course structure and how to get the full solved file.

Is the BEGG-171 Solved Question Paper based on the official June 2026 IGNOU paper?

Yes. We started from the official IGNOU June 2026 term-end paper for BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills and kept every question exactly as printed. Our experts then wrote answers to the word limits the paper sets: 150 to 200 words in Section A and 400 to 450 words in Section B. Two of these answers are shown on this page so you can judge the quality first.

How many questions are there in the BEGG-171 June 2026 paper?

The June 2026 BEGG-171 paper has 11 questions in two compulsory sections. Section A gives four questions, and you answer any two for 10 marks each. Section B gives seven questions, and you answer any four for 20 marks each. That adds up to six answers and 100 marks in three hours, so choosing the right questions in the first few minutes matters a lot.

How do I get the full BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills solved file on WhatsApp?

Send a WhatsApp message to 9899436384 with the text BEGG 171 June 2026. Our team replies with the price and the PDF details. The full file contains answers to all 11 questions in the paper: the 2 you can read on this page and the 9 that are listed here as questions only, including the letter to the editor, the camp report and the sportsperson interview.

Which BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills topics repeat most often?

Across the eight official papers from June 2022 to December 2025, four topics appeared four times each: 30-second TV ad scripts, the World Wide Web and web writing, the impact of social and cyber media, and types of mass media. Unscripted programmes, letters to the editor, interviews, news scripting and ethics in advertising came up three times each. Every June 2026 question had appeared before.

Which BEGG-171 topics are most likely in December 2026?

The types, characteristics and dangers of mass media. It is a joint-top topic, set in four of the eight papers we checked, and June 2026 asked nothing on it, which left Block 1 Units 2 and 3 untouched. Next come four topics asked three times each and also skipped this session: news scripting for broadcast, ethics in advertising, shot sizes and the grammar of television, and the e-mail or blog writing task. In all, six of the sixteen units produced no June 2026 question, so those are where the next paper has room to go.

How should I plan the three hours in the BEGG-171 exam?

Give about 15 minutes to each Section A answer and 30 to 35 minutes to each Section B answer, which leaves 10 to 30 minutes for choosing questions and checking your paper. Keep in mind that Section B pays less per word, roughly 0.047 marks against Section A's 0.057, yet holds 80 of the 100 marks and 1,600 to 1,800 of your words. So spend the first five minutes picking your four long questions well, and stop each one at 450 words rather than writing on.

How should I write the letter, report and interview questions in BEGG-171?

Treat them as format questions, because BEGG-171 examiners give marks for layout as well as content. A letter to the editor needs the sender's address, date, the editor's address, a subject line and a formal close. A newspaper report needs a headline, a dateline and the key facts in its first paragraph. An interview needs a short introduction followed by ten clear questions and answers.

How many credits and blocks does BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills have?

BEGG-171 is a 6-credit course according to IGNOU's own assignment booklets, and its study material on eGyanKosh is split into four blocks: The Concept of Communication, Advertisements, Media Writing, and Introduction to Social and Cyber Media. Each block has four units, so the course has 16 units in all. The term-end paper carries 100 marks and lasts three hours.

Which IGNOU programmes include BEGG-171 Media and Communication Skills?

BEGG-171 is mainly studied in the Bachelor of Arts (General), BAG, where IGNOU offers it as a Generic Elective, and in the Bachelor of Arts (Multidisciplinary), BAM, whose 2026-27 assignment booklet covers it. eGyanKosh also lists it among the Generic Electives of BA (Honours) Psychology. Always check the course code printed on your hall ticket before you order a solved paper.

Did the BEGG-171 paper pattern change in June 2026?

Yes. The June 2025 and December 2025 BEGG-171 papers asked students to answer any five of ten questions in about 300 words each. June 2026 went back to the two-section format IGNOU used from June 2023 to December 2024: any two of four short questions for 10 marks, and any four of seven long questions for 20 marks. Practise both answer lengths.
