Value Highlights

BSOE 145 Solved Guess Paper 2026 gives you 12 exam style questions with full written answers for Religion and Society.
Every answer runs to roughly 450 words, matching what IGNOU expects from a 20 mark descriptive answer in this paper.
Questions were chosen after tracing six Term End sessions from June 2023 to December 2025, not picked at random.
Answers stay inside the IGNOU textbook written by Subhadra Channa, so nothing you reproduce will read as unfamiliar.
Each question carries its block, its unit and the exact sessions it last appeared in, so you always know where it sits.
Scholar names and dates are already placed inside each answer, from Durkheim 1912 and Spiro 1966 through to Wilson 1987.
Plain English throughout with short headings, so a student starting late can still finish an answer in an hour.

What the BSOE 145 Guess Paper 2026 Contains

The file holds 12 descriptive questions with complete answers, spread across all three blocks of Religion and Society and reaching 10 of its 15 units. Seven of those twelve are marked high priority because they either repeat often or have returned in a recent paper. The other five are marked medium, meaning they surfaced two or three times in the window we studied.

The layout is the same on every page. A question sits at the top in the phrasing IGNOU actually uses, followed by its priority tag, its block and unit, the sessions it last appeared in, and then the answer. Answers open with a definition and a scholar, move through numbered sub-headings, and close with a short evaluative line. That closing line is the part most students drop, and it is usually what separates a pass answer from a good one.

Nothing in the answers comes from outside the IGNOU material. No stray web definitions, no borrowed examples from other universities. If a checker cross-reads your script against the Channa textbook, the vocabulary will line up.

Students who want the same treatment for other course codes can browse our wider IGNOU Solved Guess Paper collection, which is organised the same way across programmes.

BSOE 145 Solved Guess Paper Sample Questions With Answers

Five of the twelve answers are extracted below in condensed form, so you can see the structure, the scholars and the level of detail before deciding. Each extract shows the opening definition, the main sub-headings and the concluding line. The full length version of each, running to about 450 words, is in the PDF along with the seven questions not shown here.

Read one of these against your own notes. If the shape of the answer is clearer than what you have written yourself, that is the honest test of whether the file is worth asking for.

Sample 120 marksBlock 1, Unit 1High priorityLast appeared December 2025 and June 2023

What is Sociology of Religion and how is it different from Philosophy of Religion and Theology?

Opening definition. Yinger, writing in 1957, described religion as a social phenomenon because it is woven into the fabric of social life. Sociology of Religion therefore treats religion as a legitimate field of sociological enquiry. It does not ask whether God exists. It asks how people believe, why they believe, and how their description of God relates to the social conditions they live in.

Why it stands as a distinct field. Religion is a group phenomenon carried by shared beliefs and collective worship. The sacred sits at its core, set apart from the profane, as Durkheim argued in 1912. It also generates moral prescriptions that govern how people treat one another.

Difference from Philosophy of Religion. The philosopher works as metaphysician and epistemologist, deducing arguments for and against the existence of God. The sociologist does not pursue what ought to be. Sacrificing a goat cannot be certified as right or wrong by a sociologist.

Difference from Theology. Theologians are necessarily believers and are recognised religious leaders. Scharf noted in 1970 that a theologian bases analysis on human experience in general, while a sociologist attends to the particular experiences of particular societies.

The full answer adds the section on areas of common concern and the two line evaluative conclusion.

Sample 220 marksBlock 1, Unit 4High priorityLast appeared December 2025, December 2024, June 2024 and June 2023

Is religion rational? Explain.

Opening definition. Intellectualism refers to the exercise of reasoning to explain something. On the intellectualist view, religion is a reasoned response of the individual to natural phenomena. Whether religion counts as rational depends on whether rationality is defined narrowly as scientific reasoning or broadly as systematic and internally coherent thought.

The case for rationality. Tylor in 1871 built the soul theory from experiences of death, dreams and visions. Spencer, writing between 1876 and 1896, proposed the ghost theory and held that ancestor worship is the root of every religion. Max MΓΌller in 1878 argued that ancient gods were personifications of natural phenomena carried into being through metaphor and language.

The counter view. Twentieth century anthropologists attacked the intellectualists for ignoring emotion. Crawley, Wundt, Lowie and Malinowski placed fear, awe and stress at the origin of religion. Freud in 1913 called religion an illusion arising from guilt.

Weber and rationalisation. Weber traced a disenchantment of the world in which religion gradually rationalises itself, with Calvinist asceticism feeding capitalist development.

The full answer carries the Evans-Pritchard critique of Jevons and the balanced conclusion in full.

Sample 320 marksBlock 1, Unit 2High priorityLast appeared December 2025 and December 2024

Examine the concept of super humans and its manifestations.

Opening definition. Spiro proposed in 1966 that what all religions share is a belief in superhumans, beings with properties superior to humans, holding more power and able to control human destinies. He preferred superhuman to supernatural so that the term would cover Buddhism, which accepts superior beings without a creator God.

Manifestations across religions. In Buddhism the Buddha is the most exalted but not the only superhuman, with Bodhisattvas, Tara and Amitabha forming a lesser order. In Hinduism many gods are forms of the same Atman. Greek and Roman antiquity attributed power to natural phenomena through Zeus and Poseidon. Christianity and Islam, though monotheistic, recognise saints and revered figures.

Modes of relationship. The relationship is supplicatory or propitiating. Devotees offer hair at Tirupati. Robertson Smith wrote in 1894 that sharing a sacrificial feast is sharing the table with the gods.

Hierarchies and sacred objects. The highest deity is often recognised but not worshipped, as with the Nuer Kwoth and Brahman in India. Relics, amulets and bells carry sacredness through contact.

The full answer expands the local saints material and the polytheistic appearance with monistic core argument.

Sample 420 marksBlock 2, Unit 10High priorityLast appeared December 2025 and December 2024

Discuss the factors responsible for the decline of Buddhism in India.

Opening definition. The decline of Buddhism from India was not annihilation but absorption. Buddhism began in India in the sixth century before Christ and spread across South, South East and East Asia, yet faded in the land of its birth.

Doctrinal closeness to Hinduism. Transmigration of the soul is common to both. Both oppose the taking of animal life, and Vedic sacrifice gave way to temple worship and image veneration under Buddhist influence.

Absorption by Hinduism. Hinduism accepted the Buddha as the ninth incarnation of Vishnu, which made Buddhists look like another kind of Hindu. Sankara, the ninth century revivalist, established Mathas at Sringeri, Puri, Dwaraka and Badrinath, modelled directly on Buddhist monasteries.

Internal weakness and external attack. The alliance with Tantrism and Saktism hastened decadence. The destruction of Nalanda and Vikramashila by invaders ended organised monastic life, as Chopra recorded in 1980.

Revival. Ambedkar led a mass conversion at Nagpur on 14 October 1956, reading in Buddhism a rejection of caste hierarchy.

The full answer sets out each factor as a numbered sub-point with the concluding evaluation.

Sample 520 marksBlock 3, Unit 13High priorityLast appeared December 2025, June 2025, December 2024, June 2024 and December 2023

Discuss the concepts of secularisation and secularism.

Opening definition. Bryan Wilson wrote in 1987 that in secularisation the various social institutions gradually become distinct from one another and increasingly liberated from the religious assumptions that had earlier dominated them. The word secular derives from the Latin for the present age.

The process. Weber described a disenchantment of the world as natural phenomena lost magico religious meaning. Monotheistic faiths contributed by systematising belief and extinguishing random magical practice. In Europe the forces opposing the Roman Catholic Church came to be called secular.

Social context. The Renaissance encouraged rational enquiry and the printing press carried books beyond priests. Copernicus, Harvey, Galileo, Kepler and Newton dismantled metaphysical accounts of the universe. Trade routes produced a merchant middle class, and Luther split Christendom.

Secularism as value. Holyoake coined the term in 1851. In India it was written into the Constitution to manage a multi religious society, and Nehru argued in 1950 that no other basis could work.

The full answer separates the Indian material into its own section with three sub-points.

Seven more questions with full answers are in the file, including functionalist theories, Karma in Hinduism and religious pluralism. Send your course code on WhatsApp 9899436384 to enquire.

How the BSOE 145 Guess Paper Was Built From Previous Year Papers

Six consecutive Term End papers were read line by line, from June 2023 through to December 2025, and every question was tagged to its unit before any answer was written. That produced a table of 27 distinct topics, each marked present or absent for each of the six sessions.

Three patterns decide priority. A topic that has appeared four or more times is high priority on repetition alone, which is how secularisation and secularism earned its place after showing up in five of six sessions. A topic that appeared recently, particularly in December 2025, is high priority because IGNOU tends to keep a theme alive across neighbouring sessions. A topic that appeared two or three times sits at medium.

Anything appearing once was left out of the twelve. Those single appearances are usually a paper setter reaching into a rarely used unit, and building a revision plan around them wastes the limited hours most working students have.

If you would rather verify our reading yourself, the raw papers are worth studying alongside the guess paper. Our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper collection carries the same sessions we used here, and the December 2025 paper is also published directly by the university at ignou.ac.in.

Only after the frequency table was settled did the answer writing start. Every answer was drafted against the eGyanKosh unit it belongs to, then checked back against the phrasing of the original exam question so the answer actually addresses what was asked rather than the topic in general.

Students who want the underlying units themselves rather than the exam answers should start with the official self learning material, which is where every answer in this file traces back to. Our BSOE 145 Study Material page gathers the block links in one place, and the university hosts the same units at eGyanKosh.

BSOE 145 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme for December 2026

The BSOE 145 Term End paper runs for 3 hours, carries 100 marks, prints 8 questions and asks you to attempt any 5, each worth 20 marks. There are no sections and no compulsory questions. The only choice you make is which five of the eight to write.

IGNOU asks for roughly 400 words per answer. We recommend writing to about 450, which is why every answer in the file is drafted at that length. Anything shorter tends to read as a summary rather than a discussion, and anything much longer eats into the time you need for the remaining four.

The paper is bilingual. Questions are printed in English and Hindi, and you may answer in either language. That matters for planning, because a student comfortable in Hindi does not need to translate the English phrasing before beginning.

On the arithmetic of the exam, five answers at 450 words in 180 minutes leaves roughly 32 minutes per answer with a little over 20 minutes spare for reading the paper and revising the last script. Practising to that clock is more useful than practising to a word count in isolation.

Six Session Frequency Analysis Behind BSOE 145 Important Questions

Each of the 12 questions carries a priority tag drawn from how often the topic appeared between June 2023 and December 2025, with 7 marked high and 5 marked medium. The table below shows the working behind each tag rather than asking you to take the label on trust.

12Equality and fraternity in Indian religionBlock 2, Unit 5June 2023 and December 2025Medium

Two entries deserve a note. Secularisation is the single most repeated theme in this course and has now appeared in five of six sessions, so it should be the first answer you prepare regardless of how the rest of your revision goes. Religious pluralism sat out December 2025 after three earlier appearances, which historically makes a return more likely rather than less.

The same tagging method runs across our BAG Sociology Guess Paper pages, so a student taking two or three sociology electives in the same semester can compare priorities across papers without relearning the notation.

Who Should Use This BSOE 145 Guess Paper With Answers

This file suits a student with limited weeks left who needs 5 solid answers rather than a complete reading of all 15 units. It is a revision instrument, not a replacement for the textbook, and it will not help someone who has never opened the course material at all.

It works well for working students, for repeaters who failed on answer structure rather than on knowledge, and for anyone who reads the Channa textbook comfortably but freezes when asked to convert 40 pages of a unit into 450 usable words. The structural template in each answer is often more valuable to those students than the content itself.

It works less well if you are aiming for a distinction across the whole paper or if you enjoy the subject enough to read all fifteen units. In that case use it as a check on your own answer plans rather than as your primary revision.

Assignment marks sit alongside the Term End result in the final grade for this course, so students still carrying an incomplete submission should sort that first. Our BSOE 145 Solved Assignment page covers the current session questions separately from the exam preparation you are reading about here.

Units to Skip in BSOE 145 and the Reason Behind Each

Four units did not appear at all in the six sessions studied, and skipping them frees roughly a quarter of your revision time for topics that repeat. This is a judgement call based on past papers, not a guarantee about the December 2026 paper, so treat it as a way of ordering your hours rather than as permission to ignore a unit entirely.

  • Unit 15, Civil Religion. No appearance across the six papers we traced. It is also conceptually self contained, so leaving it out costs you nothing in understanding the rest of Block 3.
  • Unit 14, Communalism and Fundamentalism. No appearance in the window, though the topic occasionally surfaces inside broader questions about religion and the Indian state, so a short set of notes is worth keeping.
  • Unit 9, Sikhism. No appearance in the six papers. Of the four skipped units this is the one most likely to return, since Block 2 rotates through the individual religions.
  • Islamic inheritance material in Unit 7. One appearance only, in December 2024, and phrased very specifically. Single appearances rarely repeat in the immediately following sessions.

The New Religious Right movement also appeared once, in June 2024, and sits outside the twelve for the same reason. If you finish the twelve with time in hand, read Unit 9 next, then Unit 14.

How to Get the Complete BSOE 145 Solved Guess Paper 2026

Send a WhatsApp message to 9899436384 with your course code and the session you are appearing in, and we will confirm availability and pricing before anything is sent. There is no cart and no account to create. The exchange is a short conversation followed by the PDF.

Include your programme in the first message if you are taking more than one sociology elective, because we can usually tell you at that point whether the other codes are ready as well. That saves a second round of messages later in the week.

The file is delivered as a single 21 page PDF. It opens on a phone, so you do not need a laptop to revise from it. Once you have it, work through the seven high priority questions first, then the five medium ones, and keep the block mapping page open while you do it so you can see which units you have already covered.

BSOE 145 Guess Paper FAQs for Religion and Society

What is the BSOE 145 course in IGNOU?

BSOE 145 is Religion and Society, a discipline specific elective in the Sociology stream of the Bachelor of Arts General programme, placed in Semester V. It runs across three blocks and fifteen units, moving from the sociology of religion as a field, through the major religions practised in India, to questions of pluralism, secularism and the state.

How many questions does the BSOE 145 guess paper contain?

Twelve descriptive questions, each worth twenty marks, with a complete written answer for every one of them. Five appear on this page in condensed form so you can judge the quality. The remaining seven, together with the full length version of all twelve answers, are inside the twenty one page PDF sent on WhatsApp after you enquire.

Which sessions were analysed to build the BSOE 145 important questions?

Six consecutive Term End Examination sessions were traced, running from June 2023 through December 2023, June 2024, December 2024, June 2025 and December 2025. Every question in each paper was tagged to its block and unit, producing a table of twenty seven topics. Priority tags on the guess paper come directly from that table rather than from impression.

What is the exam pattern for the BSOE 145 Term End paper?

The paper runs three hours and carries one hundred marks. Eight questions are printed and you attempt any five, each carrying twenty marks. There are no sections and no compulsory questions. IGNOU asks for answers of roughly four hundred words. The paper is bilingual, printed in English and Hindi, and you may write in either language.

Are the BSOE 145 answers written from the official IGNOU textbook?

Yes. Every answer is drafted from the IGNOU self learning material for this course, authored by Subhadra Channa and published on eGyanKosh. Scholars, dates and terminology follow the textbook rather than any outside source. That means the vocabulary in your script matches what an evaluator expects when cross reading your answer against the prescribed units of the course.

Which units does the BSOE 145 guess paper leave out?

Four units are left out of the twelve questions. Unit 9 on Sikhism, Unit 14 on Communalism and Fundamentalism and Unit 15 on Civil Religion showed no appearance at all across the six sessions studied. The Islamic inheritance material in Unit 7 appeared once only, in December 2024, and single appearances rarely repeat in the sessions immediately following them.

Is the BSOE 145 solved guess paper enough to pass the exam?

It covers the highest probability topics and gives you answer structures you can reproduce under time pressure, which is usually what decides a result. It is not a substitute for reading the units. Students who pair the twelve answers with the textbook consistently do better than those who memorise the file alone without any wider reading.

How do I order the BSOE 145 guess paper with answers?

Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with your course code and the session you are appearing in. We confirm availability and pricing during that conversation, before anything at all is shared with you. The file then arrives as a single PDF that opens on a phone. Mention your programme in the first message if you need other sociology electives as well.
