What the BPCS 184 Solved Question Paper June 2026 covers

BPCS 184 Solved Question Paper June 2026 gives exam-length answers to all 8 questions of School Psychology, a 4-credit Skill Enhancement Course in IGNOU's BAG, BSCG and BA (Honours) programmes.

The June 2026 paper moves from foundations in Section I, such as the definition and relevance of school psychology, environmental factors in individual differences and psychosocial theories, to applied problems in Section II, such as ADHD, substance use, play therapy and the school psychologist's role in special education.

Students who searched for the BPCS 184 Question Paper usually want more than the printed questions. They want to know what a 10-mark answer looks like, how to split a 3+7 question and what to write in a 150-word short note. That is what the solved file is built to show.

Two answers are open on this page so you can judge the quality before you ask for the rest. The remaining six are kept for the full file, which you can get by messaging us on WhatsApp 9899436384.

BPCS 184 sample answers from the June 2026 paper

Below are the full answers to Q1 and Q7 of the IGNOU BPCS 184 Question Paper for June 2026, written to the 300-word length the paper asks for.

Sample 1 of 2 Question 1 Β· Section I 10 marks Β· 3+7

Q1. Define School Psychology. Discuss the need and relevance of School Psychology. (3+7)

Define School Psychology. Discuss the need and relevance of School Psychology.

Answer

Definition (3 marks)

School psychology is the branch of applied psychology that uses knowledge of learning, child development, assessment and mental health to help students succeed academically, socially and emotionally inside the school system. A school psychologist works with students, teachers and parents to identify problems early, plan support and build a safe, healthy climate for learning.

Need and relevance (7 marks)

  1. Early identification of learning difficulties: problems such as specific learning disabilities, ADHD and slow learning are often first noticed in class. Screening and timely referral prevent repeated failure and loss of confidence.
  2. Emotional well-being: exam stress, anxiety, low mood, bullying and peer pressure are common in schools. Preventive counselling and life skills sessions reduce the chance of these turning into serious disorders.
  3. Inclusive education: the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 asks schools to include children with disabilities. School psychologists assess needs, help prepare individualised education plans and guide special educators.
  4. Support for teachers: through consultation, they help teachers manage behaviour, adapt teaching to individual differences and handle difficult classroom situations.
  5. Guidance and career planning: aptitude and interest testing helps students choose streams and careers realistically.
  6. Crisis and child protection: they respond to trauma, abuse, loss or self-harm risk, and spread awareness of child safety laws such as the POCSO Act, 2012.
  7. Home-school link: parent counselling aligns expectations at home with what the child can actually do.

In India, large classes, competitive exams and very few trained school psychologists make the need sharper. The National Education Policy 2020 recommends counsellors and social workers for school complexes, which shows growing policy recognition.

Conclusion: school psychology turns schools into places that look after the whole child, not only marks, and so supports both learning and mental health.

Sample 2 of 2 Question 7 Β· Section II 10 marks

Q7. Explain play therapy as an intervention use for children’s emotional and behavioral problems. (10)

Explain play therapy as an intervention use for children’s emotional and behavioral problems.

Answer

Introduction: play therapy is a structured therapeutic approach in which a trained therapist uses play, the natural language of children, to help them express feelings, work through conflicts and learn healthier ways of behaving. It is used mainly with children aged about 3 to 12, who often cannot put distress into words.

Background: Hermine Hug-Hellmuth, Anna Freud and Melanie Klein used play in child psychoanalysis in the early twentieth century. Virginia Axline later built non-directive play therapy on Carl Rogers's client-centred ideas, setting out her principles in the book Play Therapy (1947).

Main approaches

  1. Non-directive (child-centred): the child leads the play while the therapist accepts, reflects feelings and sets only necessary limits.
  2. Directive: the therapist chooses activities aimed at set goals, as in cognitive-behavioural play therapy.
  3. Filial therapy: parents are trained to hold special play sessions at home under supervision.

Common techniques: sand tray work, puppets and doll houses, drawing and clay, storytelling, role play and simple board games. Each lets the child show worries indirectly, at a safe distance.

Use for emotional problems: it helps with anxiety and fears, grief, trauma or abuse, low self-esteem, sadness and social withdrawal, because the child can replay painful events and gain a sense of control.

Use for behavioural problems: it helps with aggression, impulsivity linked to ADHD, defiance and poor social skills. Through rules in games and role play, children practise waiting, sharing and managing anger.

In schools: a school psychologist can run short weekly sessions with low-cost toys, involve teachers and parents, and track change in classroom behaviour.

Conclusion: play therapy meets children at their own level, making it an effective, child-friendly intervention for both emotional and behavioural difficulties.

How BPCS 184 answers are written and reviewed

Every BPCS 184 answer is written to the exact wording and mark split of its question, then reviewed by Sheetal Kirola before the file is released.

Our writers first read all eight past papers listed above to see how IGNOU phrases School Psychology questions. A 3+7 question gets a short definition and a longer discussion, while a 5+5 short note gets two balanced halves of about 150 words.

Content follows the topics IGNOU sets in its own course material and assignments. The official BPCS 184 assignment booklet confirms the course credits and weightage we use on this page; you can read it on the IGNOU website.

Where they fit, answers use Indian examples: the RPWD Act 2016 for inclusive schooling, NEP 2020 for counsellors in schools and Durganand Sinha's ecological model for the Indian child. Names, dates and Acts are checked before release.
