What the BPAS 186 Solved Question Paper June 2026 Includes
BPAS 186 Stress and Time Management is a 4-credit skill enhancement course from the Public Administration discipline of IGNOU's School of Social Sciences, and its June 2026 paper is printed for Bachelor of Arts (General) and B.A. (Honours) Public Administration learners.
The file follows the paper exactly. You get the 8 questions in their printed order, the paper's own question numbers, and a full answer under each one. Section I covers the symptoms and sources of stress, time management techniques, workplace stress and the cost of poor time management. Section II moves to physical health, procrastination, preventive stress management and time management for success.
This June 2026 paper is a little different from older ones. It asks for answers of about 200 words, so long book-style answers waste your time. Every answer in our file is built to that length, with a short definition, clear points under sub-headings, and a one-line conclusion.
If you are clearing several papers this term, the BAG Question Paper collection shows which other Bachelor of Arts (General) courses already have a solved June 2026 file ready.
BPAS 186 Stress and Time Management Sample Answers: Q1 and Q2 Solved
Below are complete answers to Q1 and Q2 of the June 2026 BPAS 186 paper, one on stress and one on time management, written the same way as all 8 answers in the full file.
The question text is copied exactly as printed in the official paper, with IGNOU's own numbering. Read one answer fully and you will know what the other six look like.
1. Write a note on the symptoms and sources of stress.
1. Write a note on the symptoms and sources of stress.
Answer
Meaning: Stress is the reaction of the body and mind to any demand that a person sees as taxing or beyond their resources (Lazarus and Folkman, 1984). It shows up through clear warning signs and comes from both personal and outside causes.
Symptoms of stress
- Physical: headaches, muscle tension, tiredness, disturbed sleep, a faster heartbeat, raised blood pressure and stomach upsets.
- Emotional: anxiety, irritability, mood swings, a feeling of being overwhelmed and low mood.
- Cognitive: poor concentration, forgetfulness, constant worry and negative thinking that weakens judgement.
- Behavioural: changes in appetite, withdrawal from people, putting off work, nervous habits, and heavier use of tea, cigarettes or alcohol.
Sources of stress
- Frustration: arises when a need or goal is blocked, such as missing a promotion one has worked for.
- Conflict: Kurt Lewin described three types: approach-approach (two attractive choices), avoidance-avoidance (two unpleasant choices) and approach-avoidance (one goal with both good and bad sides).
- Pressure: demands to meet deadlines, targets or other people's expectations; it may be external or self-imposed.
- Life changes: major events such as marriage, job loss or the death of a spouse. Holmes and Rahe (1967) ranked 43 such events in their Social Readjustment Rating Scale.
- Daily hassles and environment: traffic, noise, crowding and small repeated irritations at home and work.
Conclusion: Noticing the physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioural signs early, and tracing them back to frustration, conflict, pressure or change, is the first step towards managing stress before it harms health and work.
2. Describe the techniques and utilities of time management.
2. Describe the techniques and utilities of time management.
Answer
Meaning: Time management is the conscious planning and control of time spent on activities so that goals are reached with the least waste of effort. Since time cannot be stored or replaced, it has to be used by design rather than by habit.
Techniques of time management
- SMART goals: goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound give direction to the day.
- Prioritisation: the urgent-important matrix sorts tasks into do now, plan, delegate or drop.
- 80/20 principle: about 20 per cent of activities produce 80 per cent of results, so those deserve the best hours.
- To-do lists and scheduling: a daily list with time blocks keeps work visible and ordered.
- Delegation: routine tasks are passed to capable colleagues, freeing time for key work.
- Time log: recording how hours are actually spent exposes time-wasters.
- Deadlines and saying no: Parkinson's Law (1955) holds that work expands to fill the time available, so firm deadlines and refusing low-value requests protect time.
Utilities of time management
- Higher productivity: more and better work is done in the same hours.
- Less stress: planned work reduces last-minute rush and burnout.
- Reliability: deadlines are met, which builds reputation and career growth.
- Better decisions: there is time to think instead of reacting.
- Work-life balance: time is left for family, health and leisure.
- Organisational gain: teams coordinate better and costs fall.
Conclusion: Techniques such as goal setting, prioritisation and delegation turn time into a managed resource, and their utility shows in higher output, lower stress and a more balanced life.

BPAS 186 Question Paper Pattern and Marks Split for June 2026
The June 2026 BPAS 186 question paper carries 50 marks over 2 hours: 8 questions of 10 marks each in two sections, of which you answer any 5 in about 200 words, with at least 2 from each section.
| Part of the paper | Questions | Marks | What it tests in June 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section I | Q1 to Q4 (attempt at least 2) | 10 each | Stress symptoms, time techniques, workplace stress, poor time management and job performance |
| Section II | Q5 to Q8 (attempt at least 2) | 10 each | Stress and physical health, procrastination, prevention in organisations, time management for success |

| Answer length | About 200 words each | Equal weight | Roughly 24 minutes per answer inside the 2-hour limit |

To compare this layout with older sessions, our IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper library has the earlier BPAS 186 papers side by side.
Stress and Time Management Topics IGNOU Keeps Repeating in BPAS 186

How Our BPAS 186 Answers Are Written and Checked
Every BPAS 186 answer is written from the IGNOU block books, kept close to the 200-word limit, and checked line by line against the book before it goes into the file.
Prateek Talwar wrote the answers after reading the earlier BPAS 186 papers listed above, so each one leans on the points examiners have rewarded before. Where the book names a scholar or a year, such as Selye, Lazarus or Holmes and Rahe, the answer keeps it, because a named source lifts a 10-mark answer.
Sheetal Kirola then reviewed each answer for accuracy, length and order. She checks that counts match the book, that British spelling is used throughout, and that each answer opens with a definition and ends with a conclusion that ties back to the question.
The answers are written to help you understand and recall, not to be copied word for word. Add one example of your own, such as a clash between office and family duties, and the answer becomes yours.
