What is ATR 1 Question Paper December 2025?
The ATR 01 December 2025 question paper is the official IGNOU Term-End Examination for Application Oriented Course in Translation under BDP, carrying 100 marks, with all five questions compulsory covering passage translation, sentence translation, word translation, short notes, and theory.
ATR-1 is offered under IGNOU's Bachelor's Degree Programme and tests students on practical translation between Hindi and English along with the theoretical understanding of translation as a discipline. The exam runs for 3 hours. Every question must be attempted. The paper is split between active translation tasks in Q1, Q2, and Q3, and conceptual writing in Q4 and Q5. Both halves require very different types of preparation.
About IGNOU ATR-1 — Application Oriented Course in Translation
ATR-1 is a course that builds practical language skills alongside a solid theoretical foundation in how translation works. You study how to move meaning accurately between Hindi and English, how different contexts like literary, official, and banking translation each demand a different approach, and how language structures and cultural references create specific challenges for the translator.
Most students find the passage translation in Q1 the most demanding part of the paper. A good translation is not just grammatically correct — it reads naturally in the target language. That is the difference between a competent answer and a high-scoring one. The theory questions in Q5 also reward students who can explain concepts with examples, not just definitions. Unnati Education's solved paper is built with this balance in mind.

All Questions — ATR 1 Question Paper December 2025 IGNOU (Complete List)
Below are all the questions exactly as set in the IGNOU December 2025 examination. Your solved paper covers complete answers for all five questions.
Question 1
Translate the following passages (a) into Hindi and (b) into English: 2×10=20
(a) Dr. Sadao Hoki's house was built on a spot of the Japanese coast where as a little boy he had often played. The low, square stone house was set upon rocks, well above a narrow beach that was outlined with bent pines. As a boy Sadao had climbed the pines, supporting himself on his bare feet, as he had seen men do in the South Seas when they climbed for coconuts. His father had taken him often to the islands of those seas, and never had he failed to say to the little brave boy at his side, those island yonder, they are stepping stones to the future for Japan. 'Where shall we step from them?' Sadao had asked seriously. 'Who knows?' his father had asked. 'Who can limit our future? It depends on what we make it.'

Why This Is Better Than Free ATR 1 Question Paper PDFs and Telegram Files
Free Telegram files for ATR-1 often contain clumsy translations that miss the natural flow of the target language, incorrect business terminology, and theory answers that lack structure. In a translation paper, the quality of language itself is what earns marks — an awkward translation from a free PDF actively trains you to write poorly. Unnati Education's solved paper is prepared with accurate, natural translations, correct standard Hindi equivalents for technical terms, and theory answers written at the level IGNOU expects.
