NIOS Admission Correction is the official way to fix a wrong name, date of birth, photo or address in your NIOS record, and it works only through the e-Services portal. You may apply before your first examination or within 3 years of your registration date, and charges run from Rs 100 for a simple correction to Rs 1,500 for a change of examination centre. Every fee, rule and document below is checked against the official NIOS Student Information Section.

What Is NIOS Admission Correction and Why It Matters

When NIOS admits you, it issues an online Identity Card showing your name, date of birth and chosen subjects, taken straight from your admission form, so a typing slip becomes permanent. NIOS Admission Correction is how you put that right through e-Services before it reaches your pass certificate.

These details later carry onto your marksheet, migration certificate and college or job forms, where a mismatch can stall you for months, so check every field the moment your I-Card arrives.

Where to Check Your NIOS Admission Details

NIOS gives you three places to spot a mistake early: the Learner's Corner, the admission confirmation email, and the online I-Card. Most learners just file it away, but compare all three and note any difference before you prepare with NIOS Question Papers.

NIOS Correction Time Limit of 3 Years

NIOS accepts a correction before your first examination or within 3 years of your registration date, and only after you upload supporting documents, ideally before the Admit Card is issued. After 3 years from registration no request is accepted at all.

Correction Versus Change and Why the Fee Differs

NIOS treats correction and change as two separate requests at two fees. A correction fixes an error that was never yours, a spelling slip or a wrong digit in your date of birth, at Rs 100. A change alters the recorded detail itself, such as legally updating your name or date of birth as per rule, at Rs 200. So if only the NIOS record is wrong while your marksheet is correct, it is the Rs 100 correction.

How to Correct Personal Details in NIOS

How to Correct Name Father's Name or Mother's Name in NIOS

Correcting your name, father's name, mother's name or guardian's name after admission uses the correction row at Rs 100, while changing any of them is the Rs 200 change row. For a name correction, upload your marksheet or Aadhaar to match the spelling; a father's name correction online follows the same steps.

NIOS Date of Birth Correction

A date of birth correction is Rs 100 for a genuine error, while an actual change of date of birth is Rs 200 and granted only as per rule. Upload your board marksheet or birth certificate, and re-check the day, month and year before you submit.

NIOS Photo Correction

If the photograph on your I-Card is unclear, wrong or not yours, use the photograph correction row at Rs 100 and upload a recent passport-style photo that prints on your Admit Card.

NIOS Change of Address Online

A NIOS change of address online runs through the same portal at Rs 100, so keep it current if you have moved and confirm your subject choices against the NIOS Syllabus at the same time.

NIOS Study Centre Credit Transfer and Other e-Services

Beyond personal details, e-Services also covers your study centre, credits and identity card, as they touch your enrolment and examinations.

NIOS Change of Study Centre Fee

A change of study centre costs Rs 400, usually after you shift city or find a nearer accredited institution. Because practical subjects are assessed at the centre, keep your NIOS Practical File aligned with the new one.

NIOS Transfer of Credit Fee (Per Subject)

Transfer of Credit carries a subject you have already passed at Rs 150 per subject, rising to Rs 500 per subject if requested after registration as per rule.

NIOS Duplicate Identity Card Fee

A duplicate Identity Card issued for the second time costs Rs 500, so save it from your Learner's Corner when first issued.

NIOS Change of Examination Centre

A change of examination centre before the practical or theory exam begins costs Rs 1,500 and carries an asterisk in the schedule. In genuine, unavoidable cases it must be recommended to the Department of Evaluation and approved by the Director (Evaluation), NIOS.

Documents Required for NIOS Admission Correction

The documents fall into two parts. First, proof of the correct detail, such as your previous marksheet, birth certificate or Aadhaar, uploaded through e-Services. Second, and this catches many learners out, the revised corrected document is issued only after you surrender the original incorrect document NIOS gave you, be it a marksheet, migration, provisional or final certificate, with the requisite fee. You also pay the revised duplicate document fee as per NIOS norms.

NIOS e-Services Correction Procedure Step by Step

Here is the NIOS e-Services correction procedure step by step.
1. Log in to the NIOS e-Services portal with your enrolment number and password.
2. Open the correction or change option and pick the exact row for your case.
3. Enter the corrected detail and re-read it before moving on.
4. Upload a clear scan of your supporting document within the size limit.
5. Pay the applicable fee online, plus the revised document fee where due.
6. Note your reference number and track the status in your Learner's Corner.
7. When asked, submit the original incorrect NIOS document for the revised one to issue.

Remember that the latest correction rules apply at the time you make the request, so check the current instructions and any nios latest news before you pay.

Still unsure which fee applies, message the NIOS desk on WhatsApp at 9654279279 or 9899436384 with your I-Card details and we will help you file correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the NIOS correction fee for name or date of birth?

A correction to your name or date of birth costs Rs 100 through NIOS e-Services, because it fixes a genuine error in the record. Changing either to something different is a separate request at Rs 200, and a date of birth change is granted only as per rule. Both are paid online besides the revised document fee.

Can I make a NIOS correction after admission and how long do I have?

Yes, corrections after admission are allowed, but the window is limited. NIOS accepts your request before your first examination or within 3 years of your registration date, and only after you upload supporting documents. It is best done before the Admit Card is issued so pass documents print correctly. After 3 years, no correction request is accepted.

What documents must I submit for a NIOS admission correction?

You upload proof of the correct detail, such as a previous marksheet, birth certificate or Aadhaar, through e-Services. Crucially, the revised corrected document is issued only after you surrender the original incorrect document NIOS gave you, whether a marksheet, migration, provisional or final certificate, along with the requisite fee and the revised document charge as per NIOS norms.

Which rules apply when I request a NIOS correction?

NIOS applies the latest correction rules in force at the time you make the request, not the rules from your admission year. Fees and conditions can be revised, so always confirm the current schedule on the official NIOS website before paying. Checking the newest notices helps you avoid the wrong option or an outdated amount for your correction.
