NIOS Computer Science Syllabus Class 12 Complete Guide for 2026

Computer Science carries subject code 330 at NIOS senior secondary level. The course has 29 lessons arranged in 5 modules. Eleven of those lessons are set aside for your Tutor Marked Assignment and the remaining eighteen are tested in the written board paper.

There is one thing about this subject that catches students out every single year. The theory paper is worth 60 marks, not 100, and those 60 marks are shared between only four of the five modules. Module 5 does not appear in the theory paper at all.

That single fact should reshape how you plan your year. So should the size of the C++ section, which alone carries 24 of the 60 theory marks.

Look at the last row carefully. Module 5 has nothing in the public examination column. All three of its lessons are assignment work, which is why you will never meet them in the theory paper.

Module 3 works the other way round. Only two of its ten lessons go to the assignment, so eight C++ lessons land squarely in your written exam.

What the Computer Science 330 Paper Design Actually Tells You

Application carries 30 of the 60 marks, a full half of the paper. Knowledge carries only 12. In practice that means writing and reading code, working out outputs and solving problems, rather than reciting definitions.

The objective portion is enormous. Twenty seven of the 39 questions are objective type, and together they are worth 30 marks. Half the paper is decided before you write a single long answer, which rewards daily revision far more than a last week rush.

Long answers are worth only 8 marks from 2 questions, and both carry an internal choice. Short answers add 6 more. So the descriptive writing portion is just 14 marks out of 60. Do not let it eat your revision time.

Eighty per cent of the paper is set at average or easy level. A student who covers all eighteen board lessons properly and practises past papers is chasing a comfortable score rather than a lucky one.

Where the 60 Theory Marks Sit in Computer Science 330

This is the most useful piece of arithmetic on the page. Divide each unit's marks by the number of its lessons that appear in the written paper, and you can see exactly which lessons pay best for the time you spend on them.

Database Concepts and Web Designing is the standout. Just three lessons carry 21 marks, which is roughly seven marks per lesson. No other unit comes close to that return, and yet it is the unit students most often leave for the end.

Basic Computing is the opposite. Four board lessons share only 7 marks. It still needs covering because those marks are easy ones, but it does not deserve weeks of attention.

C++ and Database plus Web Designing together carry 45 of the 60 marks. That is 75 per cent of your theory paper sitting in eleven lessons. If your revision time is short, those eleven lessons are the answer.

Module 5 gives you nothing in the theory paper, so treat those three lessons purely as assignment and viva preparation rather than exam study.

Eight of these eighteen lessons are C++ lessons. That is why Programming in C++ is worth 24 marks while Basic Computing, which has more lessons overall, is worth only 7.

Notice how many of these lessons ask you to read code rather than write about it. Output based questions on loops, arrays, pointers and HTML appear constantly, and they are pure practice marks.

These eleven lessons carry 40 per cent weightage and are assessed through your Tutor Marked Assignment. You write these answers at home with the book open, so there is no good reason to score poorly here.

Two of these lessons deserve more respect than they usually get. L 12 and L 13 are the foundation of every C++ question in the written paper, even though they sit in the assignment column.

Skip them and you will struggle with L 14 onwards, so read them properly rather than only copying assignment answers out of them.

Practical Work and Internal Assessment in Computer Science 330

Computer Science 330 is one of the NIOS subjects with a practical component alongside the theory paper. The practical is compulsory and is conducted at your accredited institute or study centre, not at a public examination centre.

The official question paper design reproduced above covers the 60 mark theory paper only. Your practical is assessed separately and its marks are added to your final result for the subject.

Marks allocated to the practical have been reported differently by different sources over the years, so confirm the current split for your session with your study centre or on the NIOS website before you plan around a number.

What does not change is the value of the practical. It is assessed in a controlled setting on work you have prepared in advance, which makes it the most predictable marks in the whole subject. Students who take the practical file seriously usually finish a grade above students who treat it as a formality.

Your practical work draws on the same lessons as your theory. Spreadsheets, presentations, HTML pages, SQL queries and C++ programs all appear, so preparing the file doubles as revision.

High Scoring Topics in Class 12 Computer Science 330

C++ output questions. Loops, arrays, functions and pointers are regularly set as short code fragments where you predict the output. There is no partial understanding here. Either you traced it correctly or you did not, so practise tracing on paper.

SQL queries. Writing a query for a described situation, and reading a query to explain what it returns, are among the most reliably repeated questions in this paper. Master select, where, order by and the basic aggregate functions.

HTML tags and attributes. Identifying the output of given HTML, and writing the tags for a described page element, are quick marks. Lessons 24 and 25 together sit inside a 21 mark unit.

Binary conversion and logic gates. Number system conversion follows a fixed procedure with a single right answer. Ten minutes of daily practice makes these questions automatic.

Classes, constructors and inheritance. Definitions plus a short code example. Prepare one clean example of each type of inheritance and you can answer most variations of the question.

Data structures. Stack and queue operations, and the difference between an array and a linked list, come up often even though L 22 sits in the assignment column.

Networking basics. Topologies, transmission media and the LAN, MAN and WAN comparison are short factual answers worth easy marks inside a small unit.

NIOS Computer Science Syllabus Class 12 Study Plan That Works

Start with Module 4. It sounds odd, but three lessons carrying 21 marks is the best return available and most students never realise it. Two weeks on databases and HTML changes your score more than a month on Basic Computing.

Then give C++ the longest single block of your year. Read L 12 and L 13 first even though they are assignment lessons, because nothing after them makes sense otherwise. Work forward lesson by lesson without skipping.

Write code by hand, not only on a computer. The exam asks you to produce and trace code on paper, and handwriting a program is a different skill from typing one with an editor helping you.

Build an output practice habit. Take any short program from the book, cover the answer, and work out what it prints. Fifteen minutes daily on this beats hours of rereading theory, because half the paper is objective and application based.

Do not over invest in long answers. They are worth 8 marks from 2 questions with internal choice in both. Prepare them properly, then move on.

In the final month, work only from past papers under a three hour clock, and prepare your practical file alongside so the two reinforce each other.

Solving the NIOS Class 12 previous year question papers under timed conditions is the fastest way to find the gaps you cannot see from reading.

How the Computer Science 330 TMA Works

Your Tutor Marked Assignment draws on the eleven lessons in the blue column of the official bifurcation. It is compulsory, and you submit it to your study centre within the window NIOS announces for your session.

Computer Science assignments usually mix short theory answers with small programs and definitions. Where a question asks for code, write the full program with proper indentation and add a comment line explaining what it does.

Answers drawn from Module 5 are the easiest marks in the assignment. Project management, entrepreneurship and communication questions are descriptive and need no coding, so do not rush them just because they feel less technical.

Number your answers exactly as the question paper does, keep code neatly aligned, and do not leave sub parts unanswered. These small habits protect marks students throw away for no reason at all.

What the Class 12 Computer Science Course Teaches You

The course moves from understanding a machine, to using standard office tools, to writing your own programs, to storing and presenting data, and finally to the workplace skills a computing job actually demands.
