NIOS Physical Education Syllabus Class 12 at a Glance

Short answer: Physical Education and Yog, subject code 373, has 22 lessons spread over five modules. Eight lessons are assessed through TMA and carry 40 percent weightage. Fourteen lessons come in the term end examination, which is a 70 mark theory paper of 38 questions.

Students usually pick 373 expecting a light subject and then find a paper full of physiology, nutrition, testing protocols and yogic terminology. It is scoring, but only if you know which fourteen lessons the examiner can actually ask from. That is exactly what the NIOS Physical Education Syllabus Class 12 bifurcation chart settles, and it is printed below without a single word changed.

Four Details Students Miss in the Physical Education 373 Chart

First, the TMA lessons are not the first eight lessons of the book. They are L-3, L-4, L-7, L-9, L-11, L-13, L-15 and L-20. Reading the textbook straight through without checking this list costs you weeks.

Second, Module 5 sends only one lesson to TMA and keeps four for the exam. Yogic Practices is therefore almost entirely an exam module, and it carries 16 marks, so it deserves early attention rather than last week revision.

Third, Module 2 works the same way. One TMA lesson, three exam lessons. The physical, physiological, psychological and spiritual aspects sit squarely in the paper.

Fourth, Module 1 is the only balanced module, two lessons each side. It is also the lightest module by marks, so do not spend your best hours there.

How the 38 Questions of Physical Education 373 Actually Behave

Fifteen one mark questions plus ten two mark objective questions come to 35 marks. That is exactly half the paper answered in short factual form. Definitions, classifications, joint names, asana names and nutrient functions live here.

The subjective half is small and choice heavy. Eight very short answers of two marks, three short answers of three marks and two long answers of five marks. Four of the VSA questions, two of the SA questions and both LA questions carry an alternative, so weak spots can be avoided rather than guessed at.

Only two questions in the entire paper are worth five marks. Students who write essay length answers for three mark questions run out of time and lose the objective marks they could have secured comfortably.

Difficulty is set at 25 percent difficult, 45 percent average and 30 percent easy. Seventy five percent of the paper is average or easy, which is why a steady student clears the 50 mark line without heroic effort. Working through a real NIOS Class 12 question paper against this blueprint shows the pattern immediately.

What the 70 Marks Reward in Physical Education and Yog

Module 4 and Module 5 carry 16 marks each. Module 2 and Module 3 carry 14 each. Module 1 carries 10. Two modules therefore hold 32 of the 70 marks, and both of them send most of their lessons to the exam rather than the assignment.

Module 1, Concept of Physical Education and Yog, 10 marks

The history of physical education in India, the meaning of Yog, ethics and values in sport, and the fair play idea. Two of its four lessons are TMA lessons, so your exam load here is small. Learn the definitions well and move on.

Module 2, Dimension of Physical Education and Yog, 14 marks

This is where physiology enters. Effects of exercise on the muscular, circulatory and respiratory systems, motivation and personality in sport, and the spiritual dimension of Yog. Three exam lessons for 14 marks makes this module dense per lesson, so allot real study time.

Module 3, Holistic Health, 14 marks

Diet and Nutrition and School Health Programme are the two exam lessons. Balanced diet, macronutrients and micronutrients, food pyramid ideas, water and roughage, and the components of a school health service. Nutrition is the single most predictable topic for objective questions in the whole paper.

Module 4, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, 16 marks

Three exam lessons and the joint highest weightage. Sports training principles and training load, knock out and league tournament formats with fixture drawing, and athletic injuries with first aid handling. Tournament fixtures reward practice with a pen rather than reading.

Comparing topics against a NIOS Class 12 previous year question paper set makes it obvious how often sports training and first aid reappear in reworded form.

Module 5, Yogic Practices, 16 marks

Four exam lessons for 16 marks. Hath Yog, the six ShatKarma cleansing practices, Pranayama types with their procedures and benefits, and Mudra and Bandha. Sanskrit terms must be spelled and matched correctly because most of these marks arrive as objective questions.

Where Students Lose Marks in Physical Education 373

The first loss is treating this as a general knowledge subject. Answers written in everyday language without the textbook terms score poorly, particularly in Modules 4 and 5 where terminology is the answer.

The second loss is ignoring the objective half. Thirty five marks sit in one and two mark questions, and there is no partial credit there. A definitions sheet per module is worth more than a second reading of the book.

The third loss is time. Thirty eight questions in one sitting means you cannot linger. Answer the objective section first, then the VSA block, and keep the two long answers for the end.

Writing the Eight TMA Lessons of Physical Education 373

TMA stands for Tutor Marked Assignment. For 373 it covers eight lessons and carries 40 percent of your final result. You write the answers yourself, submit them to your allotted study centre, and the tutor marks them.

The eight lessons are Physical Fitness and Wellness, Career Aspects of Physical Education, Social aspects, Introduction to health, Awareness of Lifestyle Disorders, Physical Education for various Population, Test and Measurement, and Asana.

Notice how practical those topics are. Lifestyle disorders, fitness testing and asana practice are all things you can describe from your own routine, and tutors reward that. A question on lifestyle disorders is stronger when you describe screen time, sleep and diet honestly rather than copying a list.

Write the lesson number before each answer, respect the word length asked for, and draw simple labelled diagrams where a test protocol or an asana posture is involved. Submit before the date NIOS announces, because late submission damages that 40 percent directly. Our NIOS solved assignment sets follow the format evaluators expect.

A Realistic Study Plan for Physical Education 373

Start with Module 5 and Module 4. Together they are 32 marks and seven exam lessons. Getting them out of the way early removes the part students usually postpone until it is too late.

Build one definitions page per module. Asana names with benefits, ShatKarma list, Pranayama types, tournament formats, injury types, nutrient functions. This single sheet is what wins the 35 objective marks.

Practise drawing knock out fixtures for 8, 16 and odd numbers of teams on paper. It takes an afternoon and it converts directly into full marks whenever the topic appears.

Two weeks before the exam, write two full papers under timed conditions. The aim is not the score. The aim is finishing all 38 questions inside the allotted time with the long answers still legible.

What Physical Education 373 Opens Up After Class 12

This subject is the standard entry route into sports and fitness education. A pass in 373 puts you in line for a BPEd or a BSc in Sports Science, and it is accepted for physical education streams the same way any senior secondary subject is.

Teaching remains the largest destination. Physical education teacher in a school, coach at an academy, or sports officer at a college, usually after a BPEd followed by a professional qualification.

Fitness and wellness is the faster growing side. Personal trainer, gym instructor, strength and conditioning assistant and group fitness coach are all roles where certification plus practical skill matters more than a long degree.

Yog specific paths have expanded considerably. Yog instructor, wellness centre trainer and school Yog teacher roles exist across India, and Module 5 of this syllabus is a genuine foundation for that certification work.

Sports management, physiotherapy support roles, sports nutrition and defence or police recruitment with physical standards are the other common directions students take from here.

Closing Notes on the NIOS Physical Education Syllabus Class 12

Module 4 and Module 5 hold 32 marks. Add Module 2 and Module 3 and you are at 60 of the 70. Four modules, fourteen exam lessons, and a paper where half the marks come from short objective answers. That is the whole subject in three sentences.

Work from the official bifurcation chart above, keep a definitions sheet for the objective half, practise tournament fixtures with a pen, and write two timed papers before the exam. Students who do these four things comfortably clear 50 marks.

If you need solved TMAs, previous year papers, notes or simply a straight answer about a submission date, message us and we will help.

Physical Education 373 Syllabus Questions Students Ask Most

Q1: How many lessons and modules are there in NIOS Physical Education 373?

Physical Education and Yog 373 has 22 lessons arranged in five modules, and there is no optional module to choose from. Eight of those lessons are assessed through the TMA and carry 40 percent weightage. The remaining fourteen lessons appear in the term end examination, which is a 70 mark theory paper containing 38 questions in total.

Q2: Which lessons of Physical Education 373 are for TMA and which come in the exam?

The eight TMA lessons are L-3, L-4, L-7, L-9, L-11, L-13, L-15 and L-20. The fourteen term end examination lessons are L-1, L-2, L-5, L-6, L-8, L-10, L-12, L-14, L-16, L-17, L-18, L-19, L-21 and L-22. The official chart above shows this module by module with the full lesson names printed alongside, and nothing overlaps between the two columns.

Q3: How are the 70 marks divided across modules in NIOS Physical Education Class 12?

Physical Education and Sports Sciences carries 16 marks and Yogic Practices also carries 16 marks, making them the joint heaviest modules. Dimensions of Physical Education and Yog carries 14 marks and Holistic Health carries 14 marks. Concept of Physical Education and Yog carries 10 marks. Together these five modules add up to the full 70 theory marks.

Q4: What is the question paper pattern for the Physical Education 373 theory exam?

The paper carries 70 marks across 38 questions. There are 15 one mark objective questions and 10 two mark objective questions, giving 35 objective marks. The subjective half has 8 very short answer questions of two marks, 3 short answer questions of three marks and 2 long answer questions of five marks. Internal alternatives are offered in each of those three sections.

Q5: Does the Physical Education 373 paper give any internal choice to students?

Yes. The official design sheet marks alternatives with hash symbols. Four of the eight very short answer questions carry an alternative choice, two of the three short answer questions carry an alternative, and both long answer questions carry an alternative. That means you can avoid a weak topic in the subjective half, though the 35 objective marks offer no choice at all.

Q6: Is Physical Education 373 an easy subject to score well in at NIOS?

It is scoring but not effortless. The difficulty sheet sets 30 percent easy, 45 percent average and only 25 percent difficult, so three quarters of the paper is within reach of a steady student. What trips people up is treating it as general knowledge. Physiology, nutrition, testing protocols and Sanskrit yogic terms all need textbook wording to earn marks.

Q7: Which topics should I revise first in the Physical Education 373 syllabus?

Begin with Yogic Practices and Sports Sciences because they carry 16 marks each and send seven lessons to the examination between them. After that take Diet and Nutrition, which is the most predictable source of objective questions. Tournament fixture drawing deserves separate practice with a pen. Leave the Concept module last, since it is only 10 marks and mostly definitions.

Q8: How does Unnati Educations help with NIOS Physical Education 373 preparation?

We supply solved TMA sets covering all eight assignment lessons in typed and handwritten formats, previous year question papers with model answers, and lesson wise notes across all 22 lessons of the course. Doubt support runs over WhatsApp, so questions about answer structure, diagram requirements and submission dates usually get resolved the same day. Admission and subject combination guidance is also available.
