BPCS 185 Solved Guess Paper 2026 is a 14-question preparation set for Developing Emotional Competence, written after reading six consecutive term-end papers of this course from June 2023 to December 2025. Every answer runs to roughly the 300-word length the examiner asks for, opens with a definition and the scholar's name, and closes with an evaluative conclusion. Nothing in the BPCS-185 set is guesswork dressed up as prediction.

Psychology students in BAG, BSCG and BCOMG usually reach this course late in their preparation, with two or three days left and a textbook of three blocks still unopened. That is the exact situation this file is built for. It tells you which fourteen topics have actually carried the paper, and it hands you the answer already written in the shape the evaluator expects.

What You Get in the BPCS 185 Solved Guess Paper 2026

You get 14 exam-style questions with complete model answers, an appearance record for each topic across six sessions, a marks-split label on every question and a short set of preparation rules covering what to skip. The file runs to 18 pages and is delivered as a PDF on WhatsApp.

Each question in the file carries four labels: the section it belongs to, the sessions in which the topic appeared, a priority grade, and the marks split it was last set with. So Q11 on self-regard is not simply listed as important. It is marked 3 + 7, tagged to December 2023, June 2024, June 2025 and December 2025, and graded high. You revise knowing why you are revising it.

The answers themselves stay inside the IGNOU BPCS-185 textbook. Plutchik's eight primary emotions, Ekman's seven basic emotions, Goleman's five competencies, Maslow's placement of self-actualization, the five C's of assertiveness, the Mangal and Mangal three stages of self-control: the counts and the names are the marks, and they are all in place.

Students who want the wider set can browse our IGNOU Solved Guess Paper collection, where the same method is applied course by course across the psychology and general elective codes.

BPCS 185 Guess Paper Sample Questions With Answers

Five of the fourteen questions are reproduced below in full, one drawn from each block of the course, exactly as they appear in the PDF. Read them before deciding. If the depth suits you, the remaining nine questions follow the same pattern.

Sample 1. Emotion, feeling and mood with the functions of emotions

Section I • Marks 5 + 5 • Appeared June 2023, June 2024, December 2024, June 2025, December 2025 • Priority high

Question. Define emotion and differentiate it from related terms such as feelings and mood. Describe the intrapersonal and interpersonal functions of emotions.

Answer

Meaning of Emotion

"Emotion is a complex chain of loosely connected events that begins with a stimulus and includes feelings, psychological changes, impulses to action and specific goal-directed behaviour"

An emotion is experienced in response to an internal or external event. It involves physical arousal, a motivation to act, and arises out of our sensations, perceptions and thoughts; it also varies in intensity.

Emotion vs. Feeling vs. Mood

TermMeaning
EmotionAn automatic physical-level response to an event; short-lived and directed at something or someone.
FeelingA person's private emotional experience or self-perception of a specific emotion; feelings are created by emotions.
MoodLower in intensity, lasts longer (even days) and may not be tied to a certain immediate cause; still influences actions.

Functions of Emotions

1. Intrapersonal functions: Functions emotions serve within individuals; they help guide behaviour and make decisions so we can survive and function — e.g., informing us when to fight and when to leave a dangerous situation.

2. Interpersonal functions: Functions performed between individuals; expressing emotion signals to others how we feel, our intentions and needs — a smile invites approach while sadness stimulates empathy.

3. Social and cultural functions: Emotions such as trust act as a social glue that keeps groups together, forming societies; cultural display rules then govern which emotions may be expressed.

Conclusion: Emotions, feelings and moods are related but distinct. Emotions serve vital intrapersonal, interpersonal and social functions, making them fundamental to survival, communication and social life.

Sample 2. Components of emotional intelligence

Section I • Marks 10 • Appeared December 2024, June 2025 • Priority high

Question. Describe the components of emotional intelligence.

Answer

Meaning of Emotional Intelligence

"The capacity to reason about emotions, and of emotions to enhance thinking — the abilities to accurately perceive emotions, to access and generate emotions to assist thought, to understand emotions, and to reflectively regulate emotions"

Broadly, emotional intelligence can be viewed as having four interrelated components.

The Four Components

1. Perceiving emotions: The basic ability to register and recognise emotions in ourselves and others — identifying an emotion, labelling it, and reading others' facial expressions and body language.

2. Understanding emotions: Using the specific information various emotions provide and knowing how it might affect behaviour — e.g., understanding that anger at a friend may result from feeling unfairly treated.

3. Managing emotions: Once emotions are recognised and understood, changing them in oneself and others — planning an outing to lift low mood, or using deep breathing to reduce anger.

4. Using emotions: Leveraging emotions to enhance thinking, decision-making and relationships — e.g., channelizing anger at injustice towards fighting for one's legitimate rights.

People do not share identical abilities in each domain; one may control their own anger yet lack skills to calm another. Developing these skills is a matter of practice.

Conclusion: Emotional intelligence comprises perceiving, understanding, managing and using emotions. Together these four interrelated abilities explain how emotionally intelligent behaviour works.

Sample 3. Emotional awareness in oneself and in others

Section II • Marks 10 • Appeared June 2023, December 2023, June 2024, December 2024, December 2025 • Priority high

Question. Discuss the significance of emotional awareness in oneself and in others (the skills involved).

Answer

Meaning of Emotional Awareness

Accurately identifying emotions in oneself and in others is a core skill of emotional intelligence, critical to understanding our internal and social worlds and, in some circumstances, to survival. It begins with developing emotional awareness in oneself.

Emotional Awareness in Oneself

Emotion identification skill stands in contrast with alexithymia (a deficit in identifying and describing one's emotions). It consists of three skills:

1. Identifying emotions — attending to the emotion being experienced rather than ignoring it.

2. Labelling the emotion being experienced — naming the specific feeling.

3. Describing or expressing the emotion being experienced — giving it appropriate outward expression.

Emotional Awareness in Others

An awareness of others' emotions leads to social well-being and better communication. It involves three interdependent skills:

1. Emotion perception — the ability to identify emotions in others through verbal and non-verbal cues (facial expressions, posture, paralanguage).

2. Emotion recognition — detecting the emotional state through visual, auditory and even olfactory channels.

3. Emotion interpretation — inferring meaning by taking the situation and cultural factors into account.

Conclusion: Emotional awareness in oneself (identifying, labelling, describing) and in others (perception, recognition, interpretation) is foundational to managing emotions and building effective relationships.

Sample 4. Self-control with strategies to develop it

Section II • Marks 5 + 5 • Appeared in all six analysed sessions • Priority high

Question. Explain the meaning and importance of self-control. Discuss strategies to develop self-control.

Answer

Meaning of Self-control

"A capacity for identifying one's angry and aggressive impulses, being composed and putting the brakes on angry, aggressive, hostile and irresponsible behavior"

Self-control means being aware of one's emotions and putting a check on them so one does not burst out, but instead assesses the situation before deciding a course of action. Its pre-requisite is awareness of one's own emotions, and it is required for both negative and intense positive emotions.

Strategies to Develop Self-control

Mangal and Mangal (2015) indicate three stages in developing self-control:

1. Awareness about the present emotional state: Focus attention on the emotions being experienced — their nature, intensity, duration and pattern — through knowing about emotions, attending to physical manifestations, meditation and scanning the body.

2. Determining underlying causes: Retrace the steps backward to find what caused the emotions being experienced.

3. Adopting measures for getting control: Take an immediate pause (deep breathing, relaxation, yoga, music, talking to friends), adopt an internal locus of control, maintain a positive attitude and plan beforehand.

A further strategy is self-distancing — creating psychological distance by viewing one's thoughts and feelings from an outsider's perspective, which improves coping and perseverance.

Conclusion: Self-control is the ability to regulate emotions so they do not control us. It develops through awareness of the present emotional state, determining its causes, and adopting measures such as pausing and internal locus of control.

Sample 5. Strategies to develop emotional competence from an intrapersonal aspect

Section II • Marks 10 • Appeared June 2024, December 2024, June 2025 • Priority high

Question. Discuss the strategies to develop emotional competence from an intrapersonal aspect.

Answer

Meaning of Emotional Competence

"The competencies that constitute self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and social skills that a person demonstrates at appropriate times and ways in sufficient frequency to be effective" — Boyatzis, Goleman & Rhee (1999)

The intrapersonal aspect relates to factors within the individual — self-awareness, self-regulation and motivation. The following strategies help develop it:

Intrapersonal Strategies

1. Focusing on the aspects of emotions: Understanding an emotion's cognitive, affective and conative components and its relevance in context.

2. Being aware of yourself: Emotional self-awareness and accurate self-assessment, using back-tracking and scanning of the self and others.

3. Being assertive: Communicating clearly and confidently the what, how and why, while ensuring the rights of both parties.

4. Cognitive restructuring: Becoming aware of one's thoughts and changing how one thinks, avoiding distortions such as catastrophizing and all-or-none thinking.

5. Being mindful: Checking thoughts and feelings and responding mindfully to prevent emotional hijacking by the amygdala.

6. Being resilient: Facing adversity and bouncing back with a positive outlook and internal locus of control.

7. Coping strategies: Using emotion-focused or problem-focused coping as suited to the control one has over the situation.

8. Developing positive attitude: Cultivating positive thoughts, feelings and actions with affirmation and an internal locus of control.

Conclusion: The intrapersonal strategies — focusing on emotions, self-awareness, assertiveness, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, resilience, coping and positive attitude — build the personal core of emotional competence.

That is 5 of 14. The remaining 9 answers cover emotional intelligence as what it is and is not, IQ against EQ, components and types of emotions, the emotions-thinking-behaviour link with universality of expression, the domains of emotional competence, assertiveness, self-regard, self-actualization and the interpersonal strategies.

Read alongside the actual papers, the index makes the repetition obvious. Anyone comparing it against an IGNOU Previous Year Question Paper for this course will notice that self-control alone has been set in every one of the six sessions we studied.

How We Built the BPCS 185 Guess Paper From Six Term-End Papers

We read the June 2023, December 2023, June 2024, December 2024, June 2025 and December 2025 papers for this course, logged all 28 recurring topics on a session grid, and kept only what the grid justified. The December 2025 paper was added last and changed two priority grades.

The grid does two jobs. It surfaces the topics that keep returning, and it exposes the gaps. Self-control appeared in every session we studied, so it sits at the top. The historical development of emotional intelligence appeared once, in December 2023, so it is listed under what to skip rather than padded into a fourteenth answer nobody will need.

Grading follows a fixed rule. High means the topic returned four or more times, or it is a recent-paper gap that is due. Medium means the BPCS-185 topic returned two or three times. Low means a single appearance, such as alexithymia, kept only as a backup note. Applying that rule mechanically is what keeps the set at fourteen questions rather than forty.

Answers were then written from the BPCS-185 study material itself, unit by unit, so the definitions carry the same scholar names and years the textbook uses. Where a topic has a fixed count in the book, the count is preserved. Students cross-checking against a BPCS 185 Question paper from any of those sessions will find the phrasing recognisable rather than paraphrased into vagueness.

BPCS 185 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme for 2026

The BPCS-185 term-end paper runs for 2 hours, carries 50 marks, sets 8 questions across two sections and asks you to answer any 5 with at least 2 from each section, in about 300 words per answer. All questions carry equal marks.

That structure is why a fourteen-question set is enough. You need five answers. Fourteen prepared topics spread across both sections give you comfortable choice even if two of your topics are missing on the day. Preparing forty topics for a five-answer paper is not thoroughness, it is poor triage.

Many questions arrive split into sub-parts such as 5 + 5, 6 + 4, 3 + 7 or 4 + 6, and the split tells you how to divide your page. A 3 + 7 on self-regard means three marks of definition and seven of strategy, so a long definition and a thin strategy list loses marks even when everything written is correct.

The other half of your result sits outside the exam hall. In IGNOU's evaluation the assignment carries 30 per cent weightage and the term-end examination carries 70 per cent, out of a total of 100 marks. You can confirm both the paper design and this weightage on the university's own files: the BPCS-185 term-end question paper and the BPCS-185 assignment booklet published by IGNOU.

Blocks and Units of BPCS 185 Covered in This Guess Paper

BPCS-185 is organised into 3 blocks and 6 units, and all 6 units are represented in the 14 questions. The table maps each unit to the topics the examiner has actually drawn from it.

Block and unit structure of BPCS-185 Developing Emotional Competence mapped to examined topics and to questions in this guess paper

Notice where the weight sits. Block 3 alone supplies six of the fourteen questions, which is why students who open the textbook at page one and read forward often run out of time before reaching the material that carries most of the paper.

Who Should Buy This BPCS 185 Solved Guess Paper

This file suits students taking Developing Emotional Competence as a Skill Enhancement Course in BAG (Bachelor of Arts General), BSCG (Bachelor of Science General) and BCOMG (Bachelor of Commerce General), appearing in the June 2026 or December 2026 term-end examination.

This BPCS-185 file is written for three situations in particular. Students starting revision with under a week left. Students who have attempted BPCS-185 before and want to know which topics they keep missing. And students who read the textbook comfortably but cannot judge how much to write for a 6 + 4 split.

It is not a substitute for the study material, and we say so plainly. If you have a full month, read the three blocks and use this file to structure your revision at the end. The set is honest about its own scope, which is also why the rules page tells you what to leave out.

Students preparing several papers in the same session often pick this up along with the wider BAG guess paper sets for their other elective codes, since the session grid method is identical across courses.

Frequently Asked Questions About the BPCS 185 Guess Paper

How many questions are in the BPCS 185 guess paper for 2026?

The file contains 14 questions with complete model answers, spread across 6 in Section I and 8 in Section II. Five of those answers are published on this page as samples, so nine remain in the paid file. Each answer runs to roughly 300 words, which is the length IGNOU asks for in this course.

Which previous year papers were analysed to prepare the BPCS 185 guess paper?

Six consecutive term-end papers of this course were read in full: June 2023, December 2023, June 2024, December 2024, June 2025 and December 2025. Every recurring topic was logged on a session grid, producing 28 tracked topics, each carrying a priority grade of high, medium or low. December 2025 was the last paper added to the grid and it altered two of those grades.

Is the BPCS 185 guess paper valid for both June 2026 and December 2026?

Yes. The set is prepared for both the June 2026 and December 2026 term-end examinations of this course. Because it is built on six sessions of repetition rather than on a single recent paper, it does not go stale between the two sittings. Topics carry a high, medium or low grade, so a student revising for either session can prioritise in the same way.

What is the exam pattern for the BPCS 185 term-end examination?

The paper runs 2 hours for a maximum of 50 marks. Eight questions are set across two sections and you answer any five, taking at least two from each section. All questions carry equal marks and answers should run to about 300 words. Many questions arrive split as 5 + 5, 6 + 4, 3 + 7 or 4 + 6.

Does the BPCS 185 guess paper cover all blocks and units of the course?

Yes. Developing Emotional Competence has three blocks and six units, and every one of those units is represented among the 14 questions. Block 3 supplies six of them because it carries the self-control, assertiveness, self-regard, self-actualization and strategy topics that the examiner sets most often. Block 1 supplies six questions and Block 2 supplies the remaining two.

Are the BPCS 185 answers written from the official IGNOU study material?

Yes. Every answer is written from the BPCS-185 textbook itself, keeping its definitions, scholar names and fixed counts intact, such as Plutchik's eight primary emotions, Ekman's seven basic emotions and Goleman's five competencies. Nothing is invented or imported from outside sources, because evaluators reward the textbook vocabulary of this course rather than general psychology writing picked up elsewhere.

Which programmes can use this BPCS 185 guess paper with answers?

Students taking Developing Emotional Competence as a Skill Enhancement Course in BAG, BSCG and BCOMG can all use it, since the same term-end question paper is set for these three programmes. Learners taking this course inside psychology and the other honours streams follow the identical syllabus and paper design, so the same 14 questions serve them without any change.

How is the BPCS 185 guess paper delivered after ordering?

Delivery is digital only. Message 9899436384 on WhatsApp with the course code BPCS-185 and your exam session, and the complete 18-page PDF carrying all 14 solved answers is sent back on the same number. No printed copy is despatched and there is no postal delay. You can also ask about topic coverage on that number before deciding to order.
