What the BPCC 104 Solved Question Paper June 2026 Covers
BPCC 104 Statistical Methods for Psychological Research-I is a 6-credit core course of IGNOU's BA (Honours) Psychology (BAPCH) that trains learners to organise, summarise and correlate psychological data.
The June 2026 paper ran for 2 hours and carried 50 marks. It had 8 questions in two sections, and you had to attempt any five, with at least two from each section. A simple calculator was allowed, which tells you how much of BPCC-104 is real arithmetic rather than pure theory.
This session leaned on Section I computations: standard deviation for two small data sets and Pearson's product moment correlation for eight pairs of scores. Section II mixed short notes on quartile deviation, dispersion and correlation with a percentile rank sum and a long answer on the normal distribution.
Our IGNOU BPCC 104 Solved Question Paper answers every one of those eight questions in the printed order, so you revise the paper exactly as it was set rather than a rearranged guess.
BPCC 104 Sample Answers on Hypothesis Testing and Pearson's r
Two BPCC-104 answers are shown in full below, Q1 from theory and Q4 from computation, so you can check both styles before asking for the file.
Section I Question 1 10 marks
Question 1 (Section I)
1. Explain inferential statistics. Describe hypothesis testing and the steps involved in it. 4+6
Inferential statistics
Inferential statistics is the branch of statistics that lets a researcher draw conclusions about a whole population from a sample. Descriptive statistics only summarise the data in hand; inferential statistics ask whether a pattern seen in the sample is likely to hold beyond it.
It has two uses: estimation, where a sample statistic estimates a population parameter as a point or a confidence interval, and hypothesis testing. Tests are parametric, such as the t-test and ANOVA, which assume normal data, or non-parametric, such as chi-square and the Mann-Whitney U test, which do not.
Hypothesis testing and its steps
Hypothesis testing is a formal procedure for deciding whether sample evidence is strong enough to reject an assumption about the population, for example whether a relaxation programme lowers exam anxiety. It follows six steps.
Step 1, state the hypotheses. The null hypothesis (H0) says there is no effect or difference, for example that anxiety scores are the same with and without the programme. The alternative hypothesis (H1) says there is a difference. It may be one-tailed (scores fall) or two-tailed (scores change in either direction).
Step 2, fix the level of significance. Psychological research usually works at 0.05 or 0.01. A 0.05 level means the researcher accepts a 5 per cent risk of rejecting a null hypothesis that is actually true.
Step 3, choose the right test, based on the design, scale of measurement, sample size and whether parametric assumptions hold.
Step 4, compute the test statistic, such as t, F or chi-square, from the sample data using the formula of the chosen test.
Step 5, compare and decide. The computed value is compared with the critical value from the table at the right degrees of freedom, or its p-value is compared with the significance level. If the computed value exceeds the critical value, H0 is rejected; otherwise the researcher fails to reject it.
Step 6, interpret and report the result with its risk of error. Rejecting a true H0 is a Type I error (alpha); retaining a false H0 is a Type II error (beta).
In short, inferential statistics turn a limited sample into a reasoned statement about a population, and hypothesis testing is the step-by-step rule that keeps that statement disciplined.
Section I Question 4 10 marks
Question 4 (Section I)
4. Compute Pearsonβs product moment correlation for the following data : 10
| Data 1 | Data 2 |
|---|---|
| 6 | 6 |
| 9 | 5 |
| 8 | 4 |
| 7 | 3 |
| 3 | 4 |
| 4 | 7 |
| 5 | 6 |
| 9 | 8 |
Pearson's product moment correlation (r) measures the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two sets of scores on an interval or ratio scale. Taking Data 1 as X and Data 2 as Y, we use the raw score formula:
r = [NΞ£XY β (Ξ£X)(Ξ£Y)] / β{[NΞ£XΒ² β (Ξ£X)Β²][NΞ£YΒ² β (Ξ£Y)Β²]}
| X | Y | XΒ² | YΒ² | XY |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 6 | 36 | 36 | 36 |
| 9 | 5 | 81 | 25 | 45 |
| 8 | 4 | 64 | 16 | 32 |
| 7 | 3 | 49 | 9 | 21 |
| 3 | 4 | 9 | 16 | 12 |
| 4 | 7 | 16 | 49 | 28 |
| 5 | 6 | 25 | 36 | 30 |
| 9 | 8 | 81 | 64 | 72 |
| Ξ£X = 51 | Ξ£Y = 43 | Ξ£XΒ² = 361 | Ξ£YΒ² = 251 | Ξ£XY = 276 |
Numerator: NΞ£XY β (Ξ£X)(Ξ£Y) = (8 Γ 276) β (51 Γ 43) = 2208 β 2193 = 15
Denominator: NΞ£XΒ² β (Ξ£X)Β² = (8 Γ 361) β 2601 = 287, and NΞ£YΒ² β (Ξ£Y)Β² = (8 Γ 251) β 1849 = 159. So β(287 Γ 159) = β45,633 = 213.62
Result: r = 15 / 213.62 = +0.07
Cross-check by the deviation method: the means are 6.375 and 5.375, giving Ξ£xy = 1.875, Ξ£xΒ² = 35.875 and Ξ£yΒ² = 19.875. Then r = 1.875 / β(35.875 Γ 19.875) = 1.875 / 26.70 = 0.07, the same value.
Interpretation: r = +0.07 is positive but negligible. The coefficient of determination, rΒ² = 0.0049, shows the two variables share less than 1 per cent of their variance. Knowing a person's Data 1 score tells us almost nothing about their Data 2 score, and a scatter diagram of these eight points would look like a loose cloud rather than a rising line.

BPCC 104 Question Paper Pattern and Marks Split for June 2026
The BPCC 104 Question Paper for June 2026 had 8 questions of 10 marks each, and you answer five of them for 50 marks in 2 hours.
| Section | Question | Type | Marks split |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | Q1 Inferential statistics, hypothesis testing | Theory | 4+6 |
| I | Q2 Mean, mode and median | Theory | 10 |
| I | Q3 Standard deviation, two data sets | Numerical | 5+5 |
| I | Q4 Pearson's product moment correlation | Numerical | 10 |
| II | Q5 Other correlation methods; quartile deviation | Two short notes, 150 words each | 5+5 |
| II | Q6 Percentile and percentile rank of 23 | Theory plus numerical | 5+5 |
| II | Q7 Dispersion types; linear and non-linear correlation | Two short notes, 150 words each | 5+5 |
| II | Q8 Normal distribution | Theory | 10 |
Section labels move around in this course. Papers up to December 2023 used Section I and II, December 2024 and December 2025 switched to Section A and B, and June 2026 went back to Section I and II. The rule never changed: at least two answers from each half.
Three of the eight June 2026 questions need a calculator (Q3, Q4 and Q6), and two of them sit in Section I. That makes Section I the faster half to score in, provided your working is laid out clearly.

| Standard scores (Z-scores) | Dec 2022, Dec 2023, Dec 2025 | 3 | No |
| Absolute and relative dispersion | Dec 2021, Jun 2022 | 2 | Yes, Q7(a) |
| Descriptive and inferential statistics | Jun 2022, Jun 2023 | 2 | Yes, Q1 |
| Percentile and percentile rank | None of the 8 papers | 0 | New, Q6 |
Two things stand out. Hypothesis testing and percentile rank were new to BPCC-104 in June 2026, so older guess lists missed them. And Spearman's rho, asked seven times before, was skipped this session, which makes it a strong bet for December 2026.
For a ranked list across other courses too, see our IGNOU Important Questions page, built from the same session-by-session counting.
How Our BPCC 104 Answers Are Worked Out and Checked
Every BPCC-104 numerical in our file is solved by hand, cross-checked by a second method and reviewed by Sheetal Kirola before release.
Statistics answers lose marks in a different way from theory answers. A wrong column total can wipe out a 10-mark sum, so each computation in the file shows the full working table, the formula in the notation used in the eGyanKosh blocks, the substitution and only then the final value.
We cross-check each result with a second route, as you saw in Q4 where the raw score and deviation methods both give r = 0.07. Short notes are kept close to 150 words per part, because Q5 and Q7 print that limit, and long answers stay near the 300 words the paper asks for.
One detail most solved papers miss: the English Q2 asks for the advantages of mean, mode and median, while the Hindi version asks for their limitations. Our Q2 answer covers both, so it works whichever medium you write in.
Students preparing the whole course often order this file with the BAPCH Question Paper set for their other core courses in the same term.
BPCC 104 Solved File Index, Question by Question

BPCC 104 Statistics FAQs
These answers cover the BPCC-104 questions students ask us most before the term-end exam.
What does the BPCC 104 Solved Question Paper for June 2026 include?
It includes complete answers to all 8 questions of the June 2026 BPCC-104 term-end paper, in the order IGNOU printed them. Theory answers run about 300 words, short notes about 150 words per part, and every numerical shows a full working table. Two answers, Q1 and Q4, are open on this page. The remaining 6 answers come only in the full file on WhatsApp.
How many questions must I attempt in the BPCC-104 exam?
You attempt five of the eight questions, and at least two must come from each section. Every question carries 10 marks, so the paper totals 50 marks in 2 hours. Section I held Q1 to Q4 and Section II held Q5 to Q8 in June 2026. Many students pick two numericals from Section I because computation answers are easier to score fully.
Which BPCC 104 topics repeat most often in term-end exams?
Standard deviation and mean, median and mode computations appeared in all 8 official BPCC-104 papers we checked, from December 2020 to December 2025. Spearman's rho came up in 7 of them, and correlation theory in 7. Scales of measurement and variability theory each appeared 4 times. June 2024 and June 2025 papers were not available, so they are not counted.
Is BPCC 104 Statistical Methods for Psychological Research-I the right course for BA General students?
Usually not. The June 2026 BPCC-104 paper is printed for BA (Honours) Psychology (BAPCH) and BA (Major) Psychology (BAFPC). BA (General) learners who opt for psychology are listed on eGyanKosh with a different course, BPCC-134 Statistical Methods and Psychological Research. Check the course code on your hall ticket or fee receipt before you order, so you get the right solved paper.
Can I use a calculator in the BPCC 104 Statistical Methods exam?
Yes. The BPCC-104 paper itself states that use of a simple calculator is permitted, so carry a basic calculator to the exam centre. Scientific and programmable calculators are not mentioned, so do not rely on them. Even with a calculator, examiners award marks for the working, which is why our file writes out every column, total and substitution before giving the final value.
Who wrote and reviewed the BPCC 104 June 2026 answers?
The answers were prepared by the Unnati Educations team led by Prateek Talwar, working from the official June 2026 BPCC-104 paper and the four eGyanKosh blocks. Sheetal Kirola reviewed the full file before release. Each numerical was checked by a second method, such as the deviation method alongside the raw score method, so the final figures match whichever method your examiner prefers.
