2. Construction of dams: Dams store excess river water and release it gradually in a controlled manner, which prevents sudden overflow and reduces downstream flooding.
3. Desilting and deepening of rivers: Removing silt and increasing the depth and embankments of rivers or drains raises their water holding capacity and prevents overflow during heavy rains.
4. Proper land-use planning: Restricting construction in flood-prone areas, and where building is necessary, raising it on elevated sites and making it flood-resistant.Thus, with combined scientific and community measures, flood damage can be effectively managed.
