Written by Prateek Talwar and reviewed by Sheetal Kirola, M.Ed., B.Ed. Faculty, from the Unnati Educations B.Ed academic team. If you are hunting for older sets too, this sits inside our wider shelf of MDU B.Ed Question Papers, so you are not stuck opening ten browser tabs.
Here is the part that matters. Knowledge and Curriculum is not a memorise-and-vomit paper. Half of it tests how you think about knowing itself, belief, truth, epistemology and the philosophies behind Indian and Western education. The other half tests curriculum, its nature, its components and how it is designed and changed. Once you see that split, the paper stops feeling random.

17121 Knowledge And Curriculum Paper I Marks Units and Duration
The 17121 paper is Paper I of the MDU B.Ed 2nd Year annual scheme. You get 3 hours and 80 marks. You attempt five questions in all. Question 1 is compulsory and is usually four short notes worth 4 into 4 equals 16. After that you choose one question from each of the four units, and every question carries equal marks.
In practice this means you only need four full-length answers plus the compulsory short notes. That is your scoring plan. Do not attempt more than one question per unit, since only one counts. Alongside these, our MDU B.Ed 2nd year Question Papers hub keeps the rest of your second year subjects in the same format.
Unit Wise Topics in 17121 Knowledge And Curriculum Question Paper
This is the map I wish someone had handed me. The four units are stable across years, so revise by unit, not by luck.
Unit I is the theory of knowledge. Expect knowledge and knowing, the sources and methods of acquiring knowledge, the difference between belief and truth, contextual and textual knowledge, and the roles of the knower and the known in transmitting and constructing knowledge.
Unit II is philosophies of education. This is where idealism, naturalism, pragmatism and Sankhya philosophy live, along with the relationship of each to education, plus the meaning of culture and its role in gaining knowledge.
Unit III is curriculum itself. Learn the meaning and definitions of curriculum, its nature, its components, the bases of curriculum, and the principles and process of curriculum construction.
Unit IV is curriculum design and change. Cover discipline-centred, learner-centred and problem-centred designs, curriculum design models and their classification, curriculum development components, and the factors and obstacles in curriculum change.

Repeated Questions and High Weightage Areas in 17121 Knowledge And Curriculum
Read five years together and the paper almost tells you what to study. The kinds of knowledge and the methods or sources of acquiring it show up nearly every year, phrased as either short notes or a full sixteen-mark question, so treat it as guaranteed. The roles of the knower and the known appear repeatedly in Unit I.
Unit II rotates through the same philosophies. Idealism, naturalism, pragmatism and Sankhya each surface across the cycles, usually with an education link asked alongside, so prepare the philosophy and its educational implications together rather than separately.
Curriculum meaning, nature, components and the principles of construction dominate Unit III, and Unit IV keeps returning to design types, discipline-centred versus problem-centred, and the factors behind curriculum change. If you cross-check against our MDU B.Ed 2025 Question Papers set, you will see the 2025 paper leans on exactly these repeat areas.
