Meaning. Taxonomy means a system of classification. Bloom's Taxonomy presents a classification of educational objectives into three domains, namely Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor. Dr. Benjamin Bloom of the University of Chicago edited the book "Taxonomy of Educational Objectives", produced by a committee of college and university examiners.
Cognitive Domain, six categories. Knowledge, the recall of facts, terms, conventions and principles. Comprehension, understanding through translation, interpretation and extrapolation. Application, use of an idea or principle in a concrete situation. Analysis, breaking content into elements and relationships. Synthesis, the creative objective of combining elements into a unique whole. Evaluation, the highest level, making value judgements through internal and external criteria.
Affective Domain, five categories. Classified by Bloom, Krathwohl and Masia, this domain deals with interests, attitudes, values and emotions. Receiving, sensitivity to a stimulus and controlled attention. Responding, willingness and satisfaction in response. Valuing, acceptance, preference and commitment to a value. Organisation, conceptualisation of values into a value system. Characterisation of a value, where the learner develops a consistent philosophy of life.
Psychomotor Domain, five categories. This domain trains the physical activities and skills of the pupil. Imitation, observing and repeating demonstrated behaviour. Manipulation, performing selected actions through essential practice. Precision, performing skilled acts with a desired refinement. Articulation, coordinating a series of acts in harmony. Naturalisation, the highest stage, where the act is performed automatically and with ease.
Conclusion. Bloom's Taxonomy offers a three domain framework of six cognitive, five affective and five psychomotor categories. It allows the Biological Science teacher to write instructional objectives in clear behavioural terms and to align teaching, learning and evaluation with those objectives.
Sample Question 2. Pedagogical Analysis of Photosynthesis, 16 marks
MDU style question. Perform the Pedagogical Analysis of the topic "Photosynthesis" for Class X.

Complete Answer
Meaning. Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants having chlorophyll prepare their own food by converting the light energy of the sun into food energy in the presence of carbon dioxide and water.
A. Content Analysis. The major and minor concepts are identified. What photosynthesis is and how it is defined. The mechanism, that is what happens during the process and how it takes place. The four essential factors, namely sunlight, chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water. The use and significance, covering food preparation, the flow of food energy and the maintenance of ecological balance.
B. Objective Formulation. After the lesson the pupil should be able to define photosynthesis, state that only green plants with chlorophyll prepare food in this way, explain the conversion of light energy into food energy, expound how green plants maintain the carbon dioxide and oxygen balance, identify chlorophyll in green stems and leaves, and illustrate the significance of the process in sustaining life on earth.
C. Methods, Devices and Teaching Aids. The methods used are the Lecture Method and the Demonstration Method. The devices include explanation, narration, experimentation and observation. The aids include chalkboard sketches, charts and pictures, slides highlighting the main facts and concepts, and audio video films showing the role of photosynthesis in sustaining life.
D. Evaluation Procedure. Oral, practical and written modes are employed. An essay type item on what really goes on inside the process. A short answer item listing the four essential factors. Objective items such as fill in the blanks, true or false and multiple choice. An oral or observation item where the pupil demonstrates the starch test on a leaf.
Conclusion. The pedagogical analysis of Photosynthesis is completed through four interlinked operations, giving the Class X teacher a ready and scientific blueprint for the lesson.

MDU Exam Pattern for Pedagogy of Biological Science
The theory paper carries 80 marks and the internal assessment carries 20 marks, awarded separately. The duration is three hours and the paper is bilingual in English and Hindi.
- Nine questions are set in all and five must be attempted.
- Q1 is compulsory and consists of short notes of 4 x 4 = 16 marks.
- One question is then attempted from each of Unit I, Unit II, Unit III and Unit IV, of 16 marks each.
- Suggested answer lengths are about 400 words for a long answer, 250 words for a 10 mark answer, 150 words for a 5 mark answer and 60 words for a 2 mark answer.
- Internal assessment is usually awarded on a task or project such as a model of the food chain, respiratory system or excretory system, as assigned by the institution.
- Plan the three hours as roughly 35 minutes for each long answer, 25 minutes for the compulsory short notes and 15 minutes for revision.
What You Can Safely Deprioritise
Do not spend long hours on highly specialised branches such as haematology, cryobiology or astrobiology. Recognition is enough. Long theorist lists from the origin of life chapter have only ever surfaced as short notes.
Micro-teaching skills such as stimulus variation and introducing carry less weight than questioning, illustration and explaining. For programmed learning, names alone are enough for mathetics and computer assisted instruction, while depth is needed only for linear and branching programmes.
How to Write Answers That MDU Examiners Reward
Open every answer with a clear definition, then attach the theorist and year, for example Bloom (1956), Skinner, B. K. Passi or Carter V. Good. Link every concept back to the Biology classroom, since this is a pedagogy paper and not a pure biology paper.
Cite NEP 2020, NCF 2005 and RTE 2009 wherever grading, CCE or types of evaluation are discussed. Use Indian examples such as the Kothari Commission (1966), NCERT and the Indian model of micro-teaching. Close each answer with an applied reflective line written from the teacher's point of view.
