The B Ed Knowledge and Curriculum Important Questions set for 2026 has been built from a question by question study of five MDU Rohtak papers of Paper 17121, covering the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 sessions. Each of those sessions can be checked in our B.Ed previous year Question Papers library.
Twelve questions have been shortlisted, mapped to Unit I to Unit IV and graded by how often each topic actually returned in the annual examination. Three of those questions are shown on this page and two of them are solved in full as a no-cost preview. The complete solved pack is delivered on WhatsApp.
Paper code 17121, Knowledge and Curriculum, is Paper I of the B.Ed. 2nd Year annual scheme of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. The theory paper carries 80 marks in three hours and every question is printed in both English and Hindi.

MDU 17121 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
The structure of Paper 17121 has stayed consistent across all five analysed sessions, which is exactly why a frequency based guess paper works for this subject. The same pattern holds across the other B.Ed 2nd year Question Papers of the annual scheme.
- Nine questions are set across the four units. You attempt five in all, one from each unit plus Question 1.
- Question 1 is compulsory. It is a short notes question with four sub parts of four marks each, so 4 x 4 = 16.
- Each unit offers an internal choice. Every long question carries 16 marks, so 5 x 16 = 80.
- Word budget for time management, a 16 mark answer runs to about 400 words and a short note to about 150 words.
- The paper is bilingual. Every question is printed in English and in Hindi and you may answer in either language.
Important Chapters and Units in Knowledge and Curriculum
Paper 17121 is divided into four units and you answer one question from each. Knowing which chapter sits in which unit is what stops a student from over preparing philosophy and walking into the hall with nothing to write on curriculum. This mapping follows the unit column of the 2026 guess paper.
| Unit | Chapters that carry the marks | Weight in the paper |
|---|---|---|
| Unit I Knowledge |
Knowledge, its meaning, nature and the methods of acquiring it. Kinds and sources of knowledge. The distinction between belief and truth. Information against knowledge. The knower and the known, with constructivism. The teacher's contribution in assimilation and dissemination of knowledge. Experiential, contextual and textual knowledge. | 16 marks, one question of two |
| Unit II Philosophy and Knowledge |
Sankhya philosophy and its educational implications. Idealism. Naturalism. Pragmatism, with its types and principles. Culture and knowledge. School and out of school knowledge. Universal, concrete and absolute knowledge. | 16 marks, one question of two |
| Unit III Curriculum Foundations |
Curriculum, its meaning, nature and organising components. Principles of curriculum construction. Approaches to curriculum theory. The traditional approach against the learner driven approach. Bases of curriculum and the curriculum process. | 16 marks, one question of two |
| Unit IV Curriculum Development and Design |
Components and the four phases of curriculum development. Curriculum design models, with discipline centred, learner centred and problem centred designs. Curriculum change, its need and the factors behind it. | 16 marks, one question of two |
| Compulsory Q1 Short notes |
Four sub parts drawn from across the units. Experiential knowledge, the distinction between belief and truth, idealism and the learner centred curriculum are the four that recur. | 4 x 4 = 16 marks, no choice |
Unit II is where most students lose marks, because they read every school of philosophy shallowly instead of mastering four of them properly. The frequency record below shows exactly which four are worth the hours.
Knowledge and Curriculum Important Topics for the 2026 Exam
Twelve topics carry the paper. They are ranked here by what the five year record justifies, highest return first, so that a student with two weeks left knows exactly where to start. This ranking is the same method we use across all our b.ed 2nd year important questions sets.
- Curriculum design models. Counting the discipline centred and problem centred designs, this theme surfaced in every one of the five sessions. It is the single highest return topic in Unit IV and the paper.
- Knowledge, meaning and methods of acquiring it. Appeared in all five sessions from 2021 to 2025. Learn all nine methods, not five, because the question is often asked as a critical examination.
- Approaches to curriculum theory. Three of five sessions, in 2021, 2023 and 2025. Due again on a two year cycle.
- Curriculum, meaning, nature and components. Three of five sessions and rising, in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The four organising components are the marks.
- Curriculum change, its need and factors. Three of five sessions, in 2021, 2022 and 2025.
- Kinds and sources of knowledge. Three of five sessions, and it doubles as a compulsory short note.
- Pragmatism, its types, principles and education. Two of five sessions. The three forms and the eight principles are the scoring structure.
- Naturalism, its features and education. Two of five sessions, in 2021 and 2025.
- Idealism, its features and implications. Two of five sessions, and it is the philosophy most often set as a short note.
- Teacher's role in assimilation and dissemination of knowledge. Two of five sessions, in 2022 and 2024.
- Belief and truth, the distinction. Two of five sessions and a standing short note favourite.
- Principles of curriculum construction. Two of five sessions, in 2021 and 2022. It has been absent for three years, which makes it a due gap for 2026.
Items 1 to 6 are non negotiable. Items 7 to 9 secure Unit II, where you must be able to write on at least two philosophies in depth. Items 11 and 12 are the gap topics that a frequency reading says are owed a return this year.
Three Sample Questions from the Knowledge and Curriculum Guess Paper 2026
These three questions are lifted from the twelve carried in the complete pack, phrased the way MDU actually frames them, and the wording follows the B.Ed Knowledge and Curriculum Question Papers of earlier sessions. Two are solved below. The third is the one that decides most scripts, and its model answer sits inside the full document.
- Unit I, 16 marks. What is knowledge? Critically examine the various methods of acquiring knowledge. Solved below.
- Unit III, 16 marks. Define the principles of curriculum construction. Solved below.
- Unit IV, 16 marks. What do you understand by a curriculum design model? Classify and explain the curriculum design. Model answer in the complete pack.
Question 3 is the one to watch. Curriculum design, counting its discipline centred and problem centred forms, surfaced in every one of the five sessions analysed, and the answer needs all three design types with their theorists and limitations laid out in order. It is the highest yield answer in the paper, which is why the full worked version is reserved for the paid pack.

Both answers below are reproduced exactly as they appear in the complete document, so you can judge the depth, the structure and the theorists before you ask for the rest.
Preview 1. Knowledge and the Methods of Acquiring It
Meaning. Knowledge is a complete unified system of thought, a meaningful structure of facts arranged into a relationship. It reflects truth about reality and rests on information, experience and wisdom. The dictionary sense of the word is assured belief, taking in learning, instruction, cognition, acquaintance and practical skill. Dewey holds that knowledge is dynamic and keeps changing with the passage of time, while Indian thought names it Vidya.
Nature of knowledge. It is verifiable and rational. It is both objective and subjective. Language is its vehicle and thought is its raw material. It rests on the meaning of words, terms and concepts, and it grows continuously through human experience.
The nine methods of acquiring knowledge.
- Appeal to authority. Knowledge attained through confidence in a specialist, a scientist, a philosopher or a teacher, and accepted as true on that footing.
- Appeal to tradition. Man leans on the traditions of his forefathers, though traditions must be critically evaluated because many have later been proved wrong.
- Appeal to senses. The senses are the main gateway, though what they deliver is coloured by environmental factors.
- Inductive and deductive methods. Induction moves from particular examples to a general law, deduction begins with a rule and moves to particular cases.
- Appeal to experience. Personal experience and the experience of others, the most primitive and fundamental source of day to day knowledge.
- Intuition. Inspiration and illumination that bring a structural change in the learner's mental faculties, spontaneous and sudden.
- Concentration and meditation. Focusing mental energy on an idea or image so that scattered facts are inferred and linked into a meaningful whole.
- Observation and related processes. Observation, whether natural or instrumental, together with explanation, prediction and the control of variables.
- Problem solving. The solution of a problem itself becomes part of knowledge, and it is the effective scientific tool for acquiring new knowledge.
Conclusion. Knowledge is the organised outcome of experience, reasoning and inquiry. A teacher should combine all these methods in the classroom so that learners construct knowledge that is rational, verifiable and lifelong.
Preview 2. Principles of Curriculum Construction
Meaning. Cunningham calls the curriculum the tool in the hands of the artist, the teacher, to mould his material, the pupil, according to his ideals, the objectives, in his studio, the school. Curriculum construction is the systematic process of selecting, organising and arranging learning experiences and content so that specific educational objectives are realised.
Two questions guide the whole exercise. What should we teach, which is the content of education, and how should we organise and teach it, which is the method.
The principles.
- Child centredness. The curriculum must suit the age, ability, interest, mental development and previous experience of the children.
- Comprehensiveness. It should carry the necessary detail, the material aids, the techniques, the life situations and the related activities, so that it guides both teacher and student.
- Correlation. All subjects should be related to one another, because teaching subjects in isolation is unpsychological.
- Practical work. Children are active by nature, so the curriculum must offer the maximum opportunity for doing and for concrete learning.
- Flexibility. It must adapt to individual differences and to changing social needs, and the teacher must have the freedom to modify it.
- Availability of time and resources. Construction must respect the time, the men and the material actually available in schools.
- Joint venture. It is a team task in which subject experts, psychologists, technologists, evaluation specialists and teachers collaborate.
- Forward looking. It should carry topics and experiences that prepare the student for future life.
- Utility. Only topics that have utility for daily life, for other subjects or for social progress deserve a place.
- Environment centredness. Selection must link with the physical and the social environment of the learner.
- Interest. The curriculum must spark interest, which is the mother of attention and motivation.
- Activity centredness. Learning by doing and living experience must dominate.
- Consultation with teachers. Teachers implement the curriculum, so they must be actively involved in constructing it.
Conclusion. Taken together these principles keep the curriculum child friendly, flexible, comprehensive, future ready and rooted in the learner's own environment, which is what makes it an effective tool for realising the aims of education.

Five Year Frequency Analysis, 2021 to 2025
This is the table the guess paper is built on, compiled by reading every MDU paper of the last five sessions alongside the rest of our b.ed important questions research. A yes means the topic appeared in that session's Paper 17121.

Read the priority column this way. High means the topic repeated four or more times, or is a recent paper gap that is due to return. Medium means it appeared two or three times across the five papers. Low means it appeared once and should be kept only as a backup topic.
Read the three curriculum design rows together and the picture changes. Design as a theme, counting its classification and its discipline centred and problem centred forms, touched every single session from 2021 to 2025. That is why it heads the important topics list.
Topics You Can Safely Skip
Past paper analysis also reveals what does not pay for itself. Leave these to the end of your revision and touch them only if time is left over.
- Western existentialism, which the textbook mentions but which recent MDU papers have rarely tested.
- Heavy historical biographies of philosophers. Learn the key ideas of Dewey, Rousseau and Kapila, not the dates of their lives.
- Every school of philosophy in depth. Master Sankhya, Idealism, Pragmatism and Naturalism. Leave Vedanta, Buddhism and Jainism for the short notes round.
- The Tyler, Wheeler and Kerr curriculum models at 16 mark depth. Know them by name, but the bigger 16 mark theme is the phases and components of curriculum development.
- Lengthy quotations and date heavy facts. The examiner wants concept, theorist and classroom link, not a memorised chronology.
How MDU Examiners Award Marks in 17121
Structure earns marks in this paper, because scripts are scanned quickly. Five habits separate a 60 percent script from an 80 percent script.
- Open with a definition and a theorist. Begin every long answer with the textbook definition and the educationist's name, for example Dewey on the dynamic nature of knowledge or Cunningham on the curriculum as the teacher's tool.
- Land every philosophy in the classroom. No answer on Sankhya, Pragmatism or Naturalism is complete until you have written its aims, curriculum, method, discipline and role of the teacher.
- Use Indian policy anchors. Bring in NCF 2005, NEP 2020 or RTE 2009 wherever the textbook itself supports it, particularly on curriculum change.
- Keep the shape. Heading, then definition, then five to eight numbered points, then a short conclusion. Examiners scan for that shape before they read a word.
- Close reflectively. End with one applied sentence on what you, as a future teacher, would do with the idea.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this guess paper valid for the MDU 2026 annual examination?
Yes. The selection targets the MDU 2026 annual examination of Paper 17121, Knowledge and Curriculum, in the B.Ed. 2nd Year annual scheme. It is compiled from the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 papers, and every answer is written strictly from the MDU 17121 prescribed study material, so the terminology matches what the evaluator expects to see.
How many questions do the B Ed Knowledge and Curriculum Important Questions cover?
Twelve questions are covered in the complete pack, mapped across the compulsory short notes question and Units I to IV. Three of those questions are shown on this page and two of them, the methods of acquiring knowledge and the principles of curriculum construction, are solved in full as a no-cost preview. The remaining ten solved answers come in the complete document on WhatsApp.
Which question carries the highest weight in Paper 17121?
Curriculum design. Counting the classification question and the discipline centred and problem centred designs together, the theme appeared in all five sessions from 2021 to 2025. The answer needs three design types, their theorists and their limitations set out in order, which makes it long to construct. Its model answer sits inside the complete pack.
Which chapters are most important in Knowledge and Curriculum?
Curriculum design models in Unit IV and the methods of acquiring knowledge in Unit I appeared in every one of the five sessions. Approaches to curriculum theory, curriculum meaning and components, and curriculum change follow at three sessions each. Between them these chapters cover Unit I, Unit III and Unit IV, leaving only Unit II philosophy to be added.
How much philosophy do I actually need for Unit II?
Four schools carry the unit. Sankhya, Idealism, Naturalism and Pragmatism between them account for every Unit II question in the last five sessions. Prepare each one to full 16 mark depth with its aims, curriculum, methods, discipline and role of the teacher. Vedanta, Buddhism and Jainism are worth knowing only at short note level.
Can a guess paper alone be enough to clear Paper 17121?
A guess paper concentrates your revision, it does not replace the syllabus. Because you attempt one question from each unit and every unit carries an internal choice, covering the high priority topics of all four units gives you a workable answer for each unit. Treat the medium priority list as your safety net if a paper takes an unusual turn.
Is this guess paper useful for CRSU, KUK or other Haryana universities?
The Knowledge and Curriculum syllabus overlaps heavily across Haryana B.Ed. programmes, so the content and the model answers remain useful. The frequency table, the paper code and the marking split are specific to MDU Rohtak. Students of CRSU, KUK and other universities should check their own paper pattern before relying on the priority ranking.
Can I write the answers in Hindi?
Yes. Paper 17121 is bilingual and every question is printed in both English and Hindi, so you may answer in either language. The model answers in the pack are written in English with the technical terms the prescribed book uses. Students writing in Hindi generally retain terms such as constructivism, Purusha, Prakriti and curriculum design, since evaluators recognise them instantly.
